Jean Advice

hi hi!  i hope i'm not outta line with starting a thread for this - if i am lemme know.
i had a question about buying maternity jeans & pants ... i'm in canada so shopping isn't as hot - there is a good sale online through gap and old navy ... when i buy maternity jeans should i buy my typical size in maternity wear or should i go a size up?  e.g. im typically size 8 in gap jeans so should i buy size 8 in maternity?
wish i could try them on in person but it isn't an option!
thank you lovely ladies <3

Re: Jean Advice

  • I would stick to the same size. A lot of maternity pants seem to stretch out throughout the day so you want to make sure they're not too big.

  • Yes, you buy your normal size in maternity clothes.

  • Same size. I got a lot of hand me downs one size bigger than my normal size and they are so big on me.

I actually went up a size. I'm pear shaped and definitely gained weight in my thighs right away, like even before I had a bump, so it made sense for me especially when buying from designer brands that can run small. That being said, I do agree that maternity jeans & pants do tend to stretch out. I'd say order your regular size based on your body type but don't expect to go up more than one size unless you feel you've gained enough to really change sizes.

A lot of the online sites have reviews, it helps to check them out to see how folks comment on fit. That's how I found my fave ones on pea in the pod.
  • I am a fan of reading reviews.  I know my hips have gotten wider, so if reviews say they run small, I'll size up.  Each brand is a little different unfortunately.

DS1 is 7.  DD is 1.  DS2 is coming in late April.

  • Old Navy buy your normal size.
  • I know this is a few days old, but if you see a great deal, I'd buy your current (regular, non-maternity) size and the next size up.  My experience has been that my hips and thighs grow and I need a size up later in pregnancy.
