Re: Symptoms, Questions Concerns Week of 6/19

  • Anyone dealing with high blood pressure or have experienced that in prior pregnancy? Any suggestions on how to lower BP? I'm going to start restricting my salt intake and try to be more active. I've lost about 9 lbs since I've found out I was pregnant because I don't feel like eating..but what I have been eating is mostly carb/sodium loaded. Hope this will make a big change. BP was 140/80 yesterday and I'm 16 weeks. Doctor starting to get concerned since it's still early. I've never had any problems with my blood pressure before pregnancy

  • @anewadventure my HG is ongoing over here. Doc told me last night to try the gamut of meds again starting with diclegis so I took it last night saying that at this point hormones are evening out so it might work when it didn't in past. I haven't thrown up today yet but heartburn is raging. Zantac 150 works sometimes. Anyone have any other heartburn ideas?

  • @Marley629 @anewadventure I forgot to mention that swallowing a tablespoon full of mustard can also help with heartburn. Although, it may make you crave corned beef LOL.
  • @clovelyone lol that's a new one. I'll try anything

  • @YodaIsGreen  that sucks :(

@clovelyone  i agree. dairy like milk and cheese help me but only for a hot second. if i don't eat like clockwork i get both nausea and heartburn. it's ironic to me since everything you read about heartburn is like "don't eat too much at once" and "don't eat within three hours of bed" and i just laugh! if i let my stomach get that empty it would be game over.

  • @anewadventure Same here. And you're supposed to take Diclegis on an empty stomach. Fat chance of that happening. I usually take it an hour or hour and a half after eating something.

I was having some vicious heartburn/reflux/bloating. Some reading suggests its all related to the fact that our digestion slows in pregnancy, so increasing fibre, and moving your body seem to help. I also started drinking chamomile & ginger tea with apple cider vinegar and raw honey before bed and I haven't had any reflux since and the bloating has drastically decreased.

  • @kaylawing I am so very sorry for your lost!

So today I already had a regular scheduled OB appointment, but I woke up with severe kidney area pain. Went in and she thinks I have a kidney stone!! So much pain right now! She hopes its small enough I can flush it out.

  • @MJDsquared I'm with you there. So itchy. I don't think it's  significant enough to warrant a trip to emergency. I see my doctor on Monday, we'll see what she says. I don't really have a rash or anything.. my cousin said she was also itchy, maybe it's part of the journey? Fingers crossed that it's nothing!
  • @MJDsquared & @dilbert890 I've gotten cholestasis in both of my previous pregnancies and I've noticed I've been getting itchy lately. Hoping I don't get it this time. The itching with cholestasis is very intense, especially in your palms and soles of your feet! Good luck and I hope you both stay clear of it!
  • @jackiesmom324- for me, dried prunes specifically are the only fruit that really help with constipation.  They're not my favorite, but they're not terrible, and just eating a few a day has been making a difference for me.

  • Aggh I was taking b6 and unisom every night and got to the point where I would just dry heave  in the morning but be fine after. The doc told me to stop taking it at 14 weeks. I stopped and now I've been throwing up all day for 2 days. I really think I should continue taking it again but my SO thinks I should listen to the doctor. I don't think not being able to hold anything down is good for me or the baby. At what point does it end. No one in my family has been as sick as I am. I wish it were one time of day. This all day and night sucks.

Any other mom's contemplating an elective c-section after a 3rd or 4th degree tear? My first delivery was aweful. Hemmoraging and a 4th degree after episiotomy and vacuum assisted delivery.  Hemmoraged 3 weeks later due to retained placenta. My new OB is recommending the c-section to avoid potential risks of a bad tear again that could having debilitating complications like incontinence. I am leaning c-section but I'm so nervous!
  • @dilbert890 @speach13 I felt really stupid right after I sent my message because I then read that cholestasis doesn't have a visible rash, and it's mostly third tri. My doctor messaged back that if I had cholestasis I'd be itchy all over and that what I have isn't pregnancy related and to get itch cream and go to a regular doctor if I need to. Haha. I already feel like that crazy FTM who is constantly messaging their doctor.

  • @ridedatide why did your Dr say to do taking it at 14 weeks? I took it along with zofran the entire time with both previous pregnancies.
  • @newadventure  I had terrible heartburn with my first.  For me, now that I don't drink soda it is so much better.  I only drink water from 4pm on.  Also, I'm careful on what citrus and how much sugar I have after 4pm.  If I focus on protein for dinner, things go much better.  I had to take tons of tums with my first and I ended up with kidney stones twice so I'm stearing very clear of the tums this time around.

I had a c-section with a failed induction last time and will have a repeat c-section this time. It's really not so bad. The recovery might even be better than what you went through last time--you just have to be careful standing up/ moving too fast and remember not to pick up anything heavier than baby. But you can pee and wipe yourself right away :) (after they take the catheter out, that is) I was scared, having never had surgery before, but the recovery was better than I expected.

Could you call your doc and let them know you've been throwing up nonstop since you stopped? I think that would change the advice.

  • @BC814 I think the option of a scheduled csection is totally valid in your case. Sounds like your first birth was pretty traumatic! Personally, knowing what I know now, if anyone so much as whispers the words vacuum or forceps I will be advocating for a section for myself as well. There's a lot of evidence to suggest poorer outcomes with surgical vaginal birth over a section. Have you seen a pelvic floor physical therapist? They may be able to give you a different perspective.

  • That's so weird LOL @ktcakes87. I'm so going to be in shock having to give up my little boobs. (Things my 17 year old self never imagined saying lol)

  • @AMCsquared My nipples are itchy today for some reason LOL. So weird!
  • I've had a weird symptom week.

This morning I had some brownish discharge, I mean like the tee-tiniest little amount, but it really caught me off guard since it's the first evidence of bleeding of any kind that I've had all pregnancy (13w5d).  We're out of town this weekend so I haven't called the doc but probably will on Monday. (Someone tell me if I you think I'm crazy and should call ASAP!)

Also, in the shower yesterday. I discovered I had dried white stuff in my nipple!? WTF is that? I thought I was going to faint trying to wash it out just from how weird it was.  I'm a FTM so all this pregnancy stuff still feels a little bit freaky sometimes... like my brain just can't process it.

  • @MJDsquared it's still nerve wrecking though! I don't really have a rash and I'm not itchy constantly. It's super frustrating though! Hope it passes soon.

Thank you so much for the feedback! Yes, last time was horrendous... so painful! I was nursing myself for weeks. The first time I had to have a BM I was like "oh no, this just can't happen... nope nope nope!" Lol

I hear ya! I'm a peds OT and was adamant that I didn't want a vacuum... knowing the horror stories, but the doctor didn't want to do a c-section after an episiotomy because I was already cut up. It was terrifying and I spent the first few hours evaluation for brachial plexus injuries! Luckily she did phenomenal! I have thought about seeing a pelvic floor PT in general, but not for their opinion...great advice. Thanks so much!
  • @elcd458 Most likely a little discharge is nothing to worry about. The stuff on your nipple is probably dried milk/colostrum. Also nothing to worry about

  • I'm a little over 17 weeks and started having what I think are mild Braxton hicks contractions. This is my third pregnancy in 3 years and I've never had them this early and they're usually much stronger. I'm a little freaked out since I've had them on and off almost all day. I had a preterm labor at 35 weeks with my second baby, so I'm obviously very aware and cautious of what my body is doing. I think I'm going to wait it out until Monday when I can make an appt with my ob, but anyone have experience with BH this early?

Interesting, thanks! I would not have thought about it making an appearance this early. I guess that's a good sign, then?

In other news, I got hella sunburned today.  Not a pregnancy symptom obviously but I feel stupid and the internet can't seem to agree on what remedy is pg-safe. Grrr.

I'm pretty sure just plain Aloe Vera is safe, isn't it?
  • @anewadventure when every I feel the heartburn I chugged a glass of milk. Works every time for me
  • Well that just happened. Just shy of 17 weeks and puked out of no where's for the first time this morning. Took my vitamins, made my pineapple, watermelon and kale smoothie and made oatmeal. Just the smell of it made me nauseous. Then I puked. WTH. Lol.

Was nauseous the whole first trimester but never threw up. This happen to any of you ladies?
  • @ShyTonia I started throwing up again at 17 weeks too, not consistent, just randomly.
  • @lestex I had BH with DS from 15 weeks on, pretty frequently. Went on to carry to 39 weeks with no signs of preterm labour.

@ShyTonia With DS i didn't throw up for the first time until 14 weeks.

  • @acgonzalez22 and @kvacmak it was so random. I was like ok just move along like nothing happened? I have no experience with throwing up with pregnancy and as I'm told once I'm into the second trimester I'm fine. Lol clearly not. Hoping for an isolated  incident.
But I was like should I rest all day or just continue my day. I continued my day and was fine! Let's see what tomorrow brings lol.
  • @ShyTonia  With this pregnancy (totally different than my first) I was nauseous all first tri but never puked.  I've now thrown up 3 times in the second trimester.  2 were headache related and the 3rd was picking the wrong breakfast.  No fun at all :(
