Push presents

Just wondering if any of you are planning to buy yourself a baby related gift when baby is born? OR does anyone anticipate their partner or a loved one getting them one? I know a lot of people have jewelery with their child's birth stone or name and some people have their kids tattooed on them.... send me pictures and ideas and stuff!

Re: Push presents

  • I've been wanting charms for a necklace with each of my kids' first initials and birthstones. I've been hesitant to get them, since I was worried that I would t be done having kids and the company would stop producing my style or something. But, after this baby, I'm definitely getting one.

  • I'm not but only because my birthday is a few day after my due date.

  • We didn't do one with DD but DH jokingly mentioned he was going to get me the new fitbit I wanted as a push gift since my current one is broken.

But if I had my way I would say fitbit for Christmas and a birthstone ring with the kids birthstones in it.
  • Also, I should add, I'll buy the necklace for myself after this baby is born. It won't be a push present, per say. The only thing I want DH surprising me with in the hospital is delicious food.

  • No. My feelings on push presents are up there with my feelings on gender reveal parties - belonging in the UO weekly post. Personally, my husband and I are trying very hard to exercise fiscal responsibility and not add more stuff to our lives.  Having the child will be expensive enough. I would so much rather put any money that would have been spent on a push present toward a college fund for this baby, so s/he does not have to struggle under the mountain of student loan debt as I do.
  • I did't exactly get a push gift with DS, instead we did a babymoon and DH got my some beautiful earrings, and we just got back from another babymoon, so i'm taking that as my gift.
  • Since my first was due right after Christmas he got me a Pandora charm for my bracelet that Christmas, and he will probably give me a charm for this baby for Christmas since he knows how much I would like that. So not technically a push present, but it's kind of his special gift to me for birthing our babies :) he only gets any sort of jewelry for Very special occasions so I absolutely love it.

  • I haven't asked for anything but DH says he wants to get me something and wants ideas. I keep telling him I'd rather save the money toward things we need...so me.

  • @c+mpeachey that's such a cool idea
@ugoglencoco I'm totally going to end up buying myself a push present. Treat yourself!
  • I don't want any kind of commemorative keepsake, it's just not really my style, but I'm totally going to buy myself another pair of Tieks after I have the baby. I've earned cute shoes.

  • Kind of..... more something to commemorate my babies....I buy them Amber necklaces. Then after they've finished wearing them i keep the beads. Once I'm done having babies, I'll get the beads threaded into a necklace for myself to wear. So not really a push present. But still....
Awww. I just threw away an amber necklace. That's really cute. Wish I'd thought of that:)

I can't remember if dh got me my present shortly after dd was born or for my birthday which was less than two months after. Either way, he got me a beautiful ruby (dd's birthstone) and diamond band. I wear it with my wedding set and I love it. He will probably get me a matching band for this baby but probably save it for Christmas .
  • I asked my DH if he was going to get me a push present and he was like what is that.  Is that really a thing? To be fair I told him I don't want a birthday gift this year either so I wont be getting one because we are saving money.  However I do like reading what you all are doing.
  • No presents for me .... No food gifts either.
  • I'm going to get a pendant like the keychain i gave the mums for mothers day when we announced to family with the babies heartbeat sound wave laser engraved on it -(this was from the 12 week scan and the first time we heard the heartbeat) its similar to the long Ogham pendant i wear from my honeymoon with my husbands name , only will be rose gold - perhaps we can have the babies name engraved on the back in Ogham too ..  (this was from the 12 week scan and the first time we heard the heartbeat)

i just wanted this tho after getting the key rings made - i never heard of  push presents i think its something people might do but less of an official or expect thing with a title  and just something that happens , gifts get given - maybe more likely first mothers day gifts to birthday or something like that

@DuchessOfCambridge consider pressure setting , you can easily have a single centre stone then last get another set next to it or another ring with another stone made if you prefer stacking rings to a single band  - no settings just metal space and can be done with seed stones and kept petite so if you have to stack a few rings or add a few stones it doesn't look crammed
  • Feel like I may be in the minority here, but I'm all for push presents! Hubby got me one with my first (turned out to be a C section present and not so much a push present lol) and I think be will probably get one for this one too. It depends on the couple and how you normally do things, but I think it's a really nice gesture. Especially considering everything we put our bodies through to make these babies!
  • I don't think I NEED a push present and I wouldn't be upset or anything if I didn't get one, but I do think they are nice. Yes you get a baby out of it but it's nice for mom to be pampered a little bit too after carrying LO for 9 months and then giving birth. I personally prefer ones that are sentimental but if I didn't get one after baby is born, I eventually would for all of my children anyway so I'm not too fussed. It'd be nice though :)

  • I didn't get one with my first, but I was surprised with a new iPhone with our second. I mean, to be honest, it was time to upgrade, but the fact that he did it for me and even picked the rose gold color with more storage space so I could take even more obnoxious amounts of pictures of my littles was so thoughtful! It won't be upgrade time this time around, so I'm not anticipating anything- and I'm totally ok with that. :)
  • We don't do push presents but with this being the last baby and with my 40th birthday happening during the pregnancy I am thinking some sort of jewelry will happen at some point. Have been wanting to add another gold band to my wedding ring for a while, so maybe that or birthstone rings.

  • Does 600 sq ft of artificial turf count as a push present? Lol

I have been wanting to convert our yard with dying grass (thanks to our female dog) for a few years. We bit the bullet because I told DH our child needed a good place to pay and I am tired of dealing with grass. So I will count it.

Honestly, I don't understand the point of push presents and we are already spending so much money to have a beautiful baby which will be our joint present.

But if others want one, then by all means, go for it!
  • @dragonfly87-2 Tell me more about your turf yard! I've been considering the same thing lately.
  • I hope it's oatmeal raisin cookies from my favorite cookie place.
