My FIL came to visit from Thursday to Sunday and I bailed on my DH Saturday and went to my parents. I couldnt take him anymore, its like having a 3 year old around that smokes every 5 minutes, wont shut up, asks the same thing 3 times in a row with everything he says (and its not like its and OCD thing), makes a huge mess everywhere he goes etc. It was rough, Im so irritable anyway so most of the time I stayed in the bedroom being "sick". Poor DH had to entertain him on his own hahaha
@livingoffpbjs Ugh that would so annoy me. I went to my FIL's this weekend too. While he isn't that bad, he made sure to let me know that if it were him he would NOT buy the house we are getting because it has SO many problems. Thanks! Would you also not have the second child or raise my daughter the way I am raising her? Guess what? I wouldn't have abandoned my son when he was an infant and cheat on his mom while she was pregnant... I also wouldn't have been physical with my children in order to discipline them and I wouldn't inhale bread while claiming to be gluten free
@EmilyLove25 oh boy! tell me how you really feel (lmao on the inhaling bread/gluten free). yeahhhh I guess I should count my blessings, my FIL isnt a bad guy. Just super annoying and gross lol. Your FIL left your DH when he was an infant? They have a relationship now? I had a similar situation. Found my bio dad when I was 18 (he left when i was 4 and signed his rights away so he wouldnt have to pay child support) but since then Ive told him to beat it and I want nothing to do with him. It was freeing!
I am just reading the IL stories and bracing myself for my visit in two weeks. My ILs live in Germany, which is awesome, but 1) I have to speak German which is fun for about an hour and then exhausting, and 2) hear about their criticisms of the US, which I share on the whole, but don't need to be reminded about over and over again.
Good call to get out of there for a break @livingoffpbjs!
@livingoffpbjs - Replace "makes a mess" with "Bitches non-stop" and I'd think we had the same FIL I love my ILs, but sometimes FIL can't be a little overbearing. My DH's bio-dad was a POS too.
@EmilyLove25 - Eeeeek. Yeah, he gets no place for an opinion or judgment in my book.
My DH's bio-dad is apparently a POS too. We've been together for like 11 years and I've never met him, even though he lives just one town over. DH hasn't seen him since his wedding to the ex-w (which he was invited to as an attempt to build/mend bridges since they had a daughter) but apparently biodad F'd that up too, because he's never met my DSS, who is 14.
@libbberty - I feel you. I criticize where I live enough for everybody, but I hate it when people rub it in. DH & I are stuck in this state for another 4 years and then we only have to come back for family visits
I put DH on the task of finding out SD's schedule for this week so we can plan a time to tell them about their future sibling. We're in the process of making plans for telling my parents we're pregnant this weekend, when we'll be at 11w. I'll probably call my brother while we're on our way down there, so he gets a head's up beforehand. He and my FSIL are also TTC, so I'd rather they hear that DH&I are pregnant from us instead of our folks.
@KatieEl Great Wolf is so fun! My college boyfriends fraternity did their formal at the one in KC and we'd all go up early and play in the water park before the dance.
@KatieEl TBD. We close Monday but I'd like to have some carpet installed and paint (not much) done in the three bedrooms before we move in... so maybe mid July? DH would like to move yesterday lol. Still need to sell our place
@scatteringashes My mom grew up in Lawrence and my grandparents still live there. We went back there for Christmas! I've always thought it's such a pretty area and nice, clean town (for the most part). We love to visit!
@GraceUponGrace09 It's a really great town. I only moved here in 2010, and I'm set to put all my roots down here. My only complaint is the job market, lol.
@jakobaby Yes to this is us! And @burnsmommy27 the bachelor in paradise stuff has been interesting to follow. I watch it occasionally but after everything that went down I'll for sure want to watch this summer!
@scatteringashes I love Lawrence so much! That place has my heart. I went back, for the first time since graduating, last October and took DH. I was so happy! Took him all over the place, stopping first at Free State Brewery!
@jakobaby I spent quite a bit of time in Lawrence during college, I went to Baker! KU's campus is so pretty, they are doing SO MUCH new construction right now! My DH is from Lawrence, and still lived there for the first year or so we dated so I got my post college fill of Mass street, Louise's West bloody Mary's etc when we met and could still bounce back after a long night out lol @scatteringashes Lawrence job market can be brutal, my BIL had a terrible time finding a job when he moved up from TX. Olathe isn't a bad drive up K10 if you can deal with a bit of a drive for work, we live right off K10 and can be on Mass street in 30 minutes from our driveway (this was a much bigger deal when we were in our 20's and spent more time bar hopping lol)
1) i'm actually really lucky and I love my in-laws, and DH's loves my parents. DH and I are both Jewish, but my family came over to the US in the 1870s/1880s...DH's grandparents came over after WWII, so both of his parents were born in post-war Poland. Let's just say that sometimes there can be a LOT of Old-Country vs American cultural differences. Luckily DH handles them and is able to smooth it over before it actually turns into a fight!
2) I need Outlander to come back sooner than "this fall"
3) we recently took our nieces to the Great Wolf Lodge that just opened this winter in outside Boston. I think the girls would've moved in, if we let them! Was a great weekend!
@gilsam1 - yes, it is! DH and i did a mediterranean cruise for our honeymoon and ended in barcelona, sowe stayed a few extra days. i love that city!! also, i'm still catching up on the books....i'm about halfway through the book that is supposed to be this upcoming season...
new random: i'm completely TERRIFIED about who the new Las Vegas team is going to steal from the Bruins...
So I may have put a bug in DH's ear that we should take a babymoon (which he's now referring to as babycation). I said FL beach for relaxing, AK cruise for sightseeing, or HI for both
FL is definitely the cheapest of the 3 options. I found tickets from one of our regional airports to Ft. Myers area for less than $126 pp, and there are tons of oceanfront condos for less than $100/night on vrbo right now, but if he wanted to spring for a villa that would be okay by me too
@JuliaGoolia719 I strongly suspect that when I start job hunting early next year (going into IT), all the real job prospects are going to be in either KC or Topeka, as much as I don't want to commute. Right now I'm a summer intern for a school district in Topeka, and that drive is fine. I also drive up K-10 to attend classes at JCCC, and it's not a bad drive. I just don't like to spend the gas money, lol.
@caseyw8784 my grandparents took our family on a Mediterranean cruise for their 50th anniversary, it was amazing! We did a few days before in Venice and a few days after in Rome which was a great way to bookend the trip
@WildMagelet just a little fyi incase you didn't know. If you take a cruise for your baby moon most cruise lines have a cut off of 22 weeks pregnant for passengers.
We are doing the AK cruise in Aug and I'm just barely under the cut off.
