Re: Coming Home Outfits

I'm noticing that a lot of these seem to be with separate socks, not footie PJ type outfits, and I just remembered someone mentioning that their baby had to wear an ankle bracelet/tracker until they were literally brought out to the car. Is that standard practice and I'll need to rethink my outfit if it has the feet attached to the pants?

Can you contact the place where you'll be giving birth and just check? Or bring two outfits? My kid will have a secure ankle bracelet too but it should be disabled before leaving the ward. (They made a big deal of telling us that if you try to just leave the ward with the baby the entire place goes on lockdown.) I would assume they'd remove the bracelet, then let you dress your kid, and escort you to the car.

  • The newborn hospital where I volunteered, the ankle needed to be free so security could check the bands on both legs before they'd could walk out of the building. It's fine if your outfit has footies, but you will probably have to undo the buttons and take their legs out so it's kind of a PITA.
  • @bwing10 Thank you so much!!

@DeansGirl14 and @taylormarie923. I'll ask at my childbirth class. I really like our outfit but DH will be back and forth I think since the hospital is insanely close to our house. I was planning to have backups in other sizes that he could grab depending on our little one's size. I'll basically need to have a picture of the items and an exact map of where it is since he can be so clueless with that stuff, though :P

  • @DeansGirl14 is right about the ankle alarm too.  It is removed before you leave the unit though because if it gets near a stairwell or the elevators big alarms will sound and the elevators will lock down. We removed them at the nurses station just before heading downstairs, but the name bands had to remain in place for both mother and baby because that's what security checked to make sure you were leaving the hospital with a baby that belonged to you.
  • But I would say half the time, I ended up having to stop in the lobby to help a mom get baby's legs back into a footed sleeper once we made it through security, so it really isn't  huge deal.  :)

  • My sister gifted me this tea collection kimono onesie and her and I both love it so I think it has become the coming home winner. I will bring the other outfits just in case. I think I might need to switch the swaddle blankets though after looking at this mood board, not sure though...

@donehue If you haven't purchased the swaddle blankets yet, something like these might flow better with your 'mood board'! I got the same set for this LO to have at the hospital.

  • I love this one so much but I'm worried it will be too tiny (it's newborn and they said in May he was measuring in the 69% percentile for growth) so searching for a 0-3 month outfit but haven't found anything I love yet
  • @PinkPrincessPiper I want to love tit that multiple times - thanks!

  • I originally wanted to do a gown but I am unsure how that works with a carseat..anybody know?

I would not recommend a gown exactly for the reason you stated. The car seat buckle needs to come up between and over the legs. I recommend either a footed sleeper or onesie & pants.
  • Bought these two sets.  One if it is cooler and another for it it's hot.  Figure I can use hat and socks for one with both.  Stressing b/c I saw another cardigan bodysuit online that I liked better.  Now I am stressing.  I already exchanged these for size from nb to 3 mo since they think baby may be 8lbs at 39 week delivery.  May just go buy a third outfit just in case.

@Lauradi1010 I love the little ballet slipper socks! Too cute!
  • TRA0816  Lurking from BMB Sept....I got a gown from target that had snaps that could turn the gown into "pants" for in the car seat. They had them in a few different colors and designs. https://www.target.com/p/baby-boys-3-piece-converter-gown-set-green-precious-firsts-153-made-by-carter-s-174/-/A-51644482#lnk=sametab&preselect=51425731
