With being watched for preeclampsia now, I have 2 appointments this week. I have an ultrasound today. I have a NST test and regular appointment Thursday.
With being watched for preeclampsia now, I have 2 appointments this week. I have an ultrasound today. I have a NST test and regular appointment Thursday.
I have an appointment on Friday which includes the GD test, tDap shot, and scheduling our RCS. I think I'll also be signing the papers for tubal ligation, and I'm really nervous about making this big decision.
I barely passed my GD test last pregnancy with a score of 138. FX for a lower number this time. Also, I remember how bad my arm hurt for almost a week after my last tDap shot. Not looking forward to that!
I had my 29 week appointment today. I had a lot of concerns about potentially having GD and told my OB that if I do have it I think I may be at risk for developing depression. She brushed me off and told me not to panic. I'm not the type of person you can say "calm down" or "don't panic". It just makes me feel bad that I am worrying about something completely ridiculous. She said that if I do have GD that it should be a wakeup call because 50% of women with GD develop diabetes later in life. She also said that I should make lifestyle changes if it is positive. I just don't know how much more I can change at this point. I'm already working out daily and eating clean.
We also talked about my weight gain (or lack thereof) and asked why I thought that was...I said because I've been eating healthier, which is true. But I've also been working out, eating breakfast daily, and getting more sleep. All of which contribute to better metabolism. My OB probably assumes that I was a junk food junkie before I got pregnant and now I just feel like poop.
And of course my blood pressure was not good today. At least my baby is measuring on track and has a consistent heart rate.
@Kathryn0903 I hope your ultrasound went well today! @PinkPrincessPiper Good luck on your GD test! I always massage my arm after vaccinations for several minutes and I swear it helps prevent your arm from feeling dead for a week. You should try it!

@PinkPrincessPiper I second massaging the arm. I tried it for my dTap and it felt so much better then the last time I had it. @BlackNYellow Sorry your OB didn't take you seriously. I would be frustrated if my doctor just brushed me off like that. None of her lecture would have made me feel any better.
I have a basic appointment on Wednesday. I am on the every 2 week schedule and it seems like I am always there.
@BlackNYellow your OB deserves a giant throats punch! I'm sorry you had that experience.

Mommy to a super cute havanesse puppy and baby boy!
I have an appointment on Wednesday. Curious if they will be able to tell if they baby has rotated to not be breech anymore (had some painful belly feelings on Friday, so i wonder if he turned then).
Had my biophysical profile ultrasound today. It was just at the hospital with an ultrasound tech so won't know much until my appointment Thursday. I did find out baby moved from head down Friday to breech today. Hoping he moves again in the next few weeks.
Due to Pregnancy induced hypertension I now go to two OBs every week. My regular OB in town and my high risk OB about an hour away. Tomorrow I go to the high risk one which means ultrasounds, which always excites me! Baby is head down and 2 weeks ahead on the growth chart as of last weeks appointment! Only going to week 36-37, so here's so having a baby in the next month!!

Oh my gosh @BlackNYellow your OB blows. I'm so mad on your behalf. It's hard enough to even say out loud that you think you might be at risk for depression, but to say it to a medical professional and have them brush it off? Eff that noise. Couple that with their stat of "50% of GD moms go on to have diabetes later in life", yes, there is an increased risk... But 50%? I've looked all over the official sources and can't find that stat.
I'm also not gaining weight and it's troubling to me. I think my body is just in overdrive with its metabolism to grow this baby, and couple that with the diet that GD requires, man, well it's all just a bit of a mindeff.

@BlackNYellow I can't believe your OB said that to you that makes me really sad. My sister has GD and has a hard time managing it- mentally not physically, so i think your concern is entirely warranted and should not have been brushed off. I'm also unsure of her 50% stat- I have never heard that. My sister said her dr makes her feel like she is a pig and eating unhealthy and thats why she ended up with GD which is not the case. My sister eats much healthier than I do and I have gained more weight than her. I know everyone is different but during this time its hard to hear crap from your dr when you're trying your best! Just know GD is entirely manageable and is very common. At least it will only be 2-3 months for you if you do have it.
I just had my 3rd trimester ultrasound and baby looked good. She is head down and has been head down every ultrasound- so lets hope she stays PUT! I go on Thursday for my bimonthly appt. Last appt the dr said i gained a little more weight in the 2 week period than she would have wanted. I was in the states for my baby shower so I blame it on that! LOL. I think I've lost a little of what i put on in the past two weeks according to my scale- but who knows.
Welp. I had my 32 week check-in today (I'm 32+5) and up until this point, my fundus measurement has been right on track. Today, the doctor could barely get the tape measure to 30, so now I'm headed back for an ultrasound at lunch time. He just wants to see if the baby is overall small or if there are any growth issues. At the 20 week ultrasound she was 51 percentile for growth. Her heartbeat is always good, my BP is always good. Honestly, I'm sure everything's fine. I'm a small woman. The baby has been very active, to the point that I joke to DH that she's working in very close quarters and trying to bust out (or stretch my uterus to get more room for herself)! The doctor joked, "Where are you hiding her?" and I said, honestly, under my ribs where my stomach should be... Even though I'm sure everything's fine, I'm a wee bit nervous regardless. Sometimes small women have small babies and it's no big deal, so this is just a precaution really.
@DeansGirl14 Let us know how it goes. Since the baby has been active, I'm sure there's very little cause for concern but, of course, it's hard not to be when it's you. Glad you're getting it checked out to be sure.
@DeansGirl14 Fingers crossed for you! Like kvh said, I'm sure everything is perfect given that she's moving, your BP is good, A/S went well, etc..
I have my 32 week visit this Friday. I'm going to ask about this at my appointment, but I was a little surprised to see my weight hasn't gone up in the past two weeks. I was steadily increasing up until now, but it seems to have leveled off. Wondering if it's due to having less room in my stomach/feeling more full than usual? Just hoping there's no issue with growth or anything, since I know babies gain 1/2 a point a week during 3rd tri (I think that's the statistic).
@secicc12 I've also noticed that I haven't gained any weight in the past 2 weeks. Same as you, it was steadily increasing and now it just seems as though I'm at a standstill. I have tried to eat better though over the last couple of weeks so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. I have my 30 weeks ultrasound on Monday so hopefully everything it still measuring normal.
I had my progesterone shot yesterday and my OB Appt tomorrow afternoon. It's with another OB since mine is on vacation. She's actually the OB that delivered my oldest so it'll be nice to see her again
I had a growth ultrasound and regular OB check up today. Baby looks good, she is in the 68% percentile which is smaller then dd who has always been 90+%. She also flipped to head down which explains some of the discomfort I've had in the last week or so.
For the ladies concerned about not gaining weight. I lost quite a bit of weight with DD and am doing the same with this pregnancy although not the same amount. DD was 9lbs 7oz at birth. She just took everything. She's been healthy and has had no issues despite me not gaining weight so try not to stress it to much as long as your baby is growing the weight you gain shouldn't matter.
Normal appointment this morning. All looks good. I finally convinced the nurses to just check my BP manually (cuff and stethoscope) and this one did that instead of taking it three times with the stupid machines. The machines always read high and I'm fine when done manually. HB at 140 and fundal height was good.
I also asked about the pains pains I had a couple weeks ago on the upper right side of my belly. OB said a lot of STM+ will have some pains/discomfort earlier than their past pregnancies and often get worried but that it's totally normal. So guess we just have to deal with it.

@secicc12 I think it is because of lack of belly space (which makes us eat smaller amounts) I actually lost a few pounds towards the end with DD and he came out just shy of 10 lbs!
I had my regular appointment today. It's been a month since I have seen the doctor and I am 31 weeks tomorrow. I brought up the lack of fetal movement, and she checked to see where my placenta was. We were talking about tracking kicks. Then, the baby's heartbeat was measuring low. So I was sent over to do a NST, and I now get to go week. I had to do them with DD, so I am not too worried. But, he also moved a LOT which I found reassuring. Now I am hoping she moves for me so I don't panick and call the doctor every day.
I also asked about the pains pains I had a couple weeks ago on the upper right side of my belly. OB said a lot of STM+ will have some pains/discomfort earlier than their past pregnancies and often get worried but that it's totally normal. So guess we just have to deal with it.
@bumpybump, I've been having those pains too (I think the same - feels like the cramps you have in your side when you run but it's super high and on the side). The OB I saw today (not my normal OB) said it might be gas or just muscular. I don't think it's gas but she said it's nothing to worry about.
The appt I had today with the other OB (actually the one who did my c section with my first) was insanely short. Like she was probably in the room with me for 5 minutes. She said I was measuring perfectly and baby's HR was 140. She said my chances of another VBAC are 92% so that was encouraging. She also said it was a good time to schedule a c section just in case but then left the room without scheduling it so I guess I'll wait another 2.5 weeks until I see my OB. She was nice but I'm happy I have the OB that I have.
@bumpybump I've been having random aches and pains throughout the day also. I guess it makes sense that STMs have to deal with them earlier...
I had an appointment with the MFM today. Everything looked great and LO is head down!!! In 2 weeks I have to start weekly BPPs. I had no idea what BPPs were until today.
I had my checkup today and my midwife, very sweetly, complained about my weight gain. She was like "5lbs in 2 weeks is a bit too much in the third trimester, so let's talk about a low-carb diet from now to the end". Good bye burgers, pizzas, and milkshakes. I'll miss you.
@livlew I thought you looked great in your HDBD picture! Maybe you can convince her it's just some water retention from the high heat these last few days?
Together: January 2002 Married: May 2008 Baby: August 2017
Clearly we like to rush along at lightning speed...
@Mango517 I don't think she's worried about my overall weight but she explained that now is when the baby will quickly plump up and that too many carbs and sugary foods can cause excessive weight gain in the baby and big shoulders, making natural delivery harder and riskier. She asked me to aim to gain no more than 1lb/week.
@lewliv I don't know if there has been a recent heat wave by you, but water retention, constipation, etc can certainly cause a larger than normal weight gain. It's always good to be cautious, but if you haven't had sugar issues and passed the GTT, I wouldn't necessarily go crazy with the low carb diet just yet. There could be other reasons why you had a jump. I know my weight can fluctuate a lot just from retaining water and with the heat wave, I've definitely gained several pounds just from swelling. I also had severe swelling with DS1 (gained 15 lbs in 4 weeks) and gain a lot of weight in general with my pregnancies even when watching my sugar. Certainly listen to your midwife, but I would also try to see if something else other than sugar issues contributed to it. Plus, even with a low carb/GD diet, you're still eating carbs with each meal. It's just balanced with protein.
@MetsGirl18 thanks for the tips! My latest jump could've been from water retention but most likely is from my crappy diet. I have been having big jumps throughout the second trimester. I'm constantly starving since day one of this pregnancy and can't stop eating I started this pregnancy underweight so, as long as my diet had all the necessary nutrients, the midwife was ok with all the sugar and flour I was consuming. Now she said I'm not strictly forbidden of eating those but that I should try to stick to protein, vegetables, and legumes. I guess that with my size and my husband family's history of big babies, that's not a bad idea.
@lewliv It's always good to be proactive, but even the GD diet includes whole grains and fruit. I'd definitely stay away from white/starchy carbs if you want to monitor your sugar, but it's still important to have a balanced diet. I'm waiting for my refresher course, but I think with the GD diet, you're supposed to eat every 2-3 hours with up to 15g (or maybe 30?) of carbs for snacks and up to 30g (or maybe 45?) for meals. This is just for some perspective so you don't feel like you need to go crazy eliminating carbs.
Well I had an appointment today and no longer have protein in my urine, but still an elevated blood pressure, so they're now labeling me as mild preeclampsia and are going to continue watching me closely. They also said it's quite likely that they may want me to deliver at 37 weeks. Scary considering that's only 4 weeks away. Baby has now moved from breech to transverse so hopefully he's getting in the right position now.
@Kathryn0903 Im glad the protein has cleared up, but sorry your BP hasn't gone down. FX that your BP starts to lower, and that you can keep your LO in for as long as it is safe!

Mommy to a super cute havanesse puppy and baby boy!
@Kathryn0903 I had elevated BP with DS1 throughout the third trimester. By 28-30 weeks, I also started having severe swelling. I had some protein in my urine 1 month before my EDD and had to do the 24 hour urine collection, which came back ok. At that point, my BP was also very high, I was sent to L&D for monitoring and was told I wouldn't be allowed to go past 38 weeks. I was put on bed rest and monitored closely. Since my BP was high, but within acceptable limits while lying on my left side at each appointment, I was allowed to continue on bed rest until I was induced at 38 weeks. It's definitely nerve wracking, but try to drink lots of water, keep your feet up as much as possible and take it easy. Hopefully your BP will stay under control for the rest of the pregnancy. Good luck! For what it's worth, my BP issues resolved themselves after delivery and I haven't had any BP issues with my other pregnancies. Supposedly, it's more common with first pregnancies especially boys. I have no idea why there's a correlation though.
ETA: Once I started getting not so great news at the OB's office about my BP, my BP was even higher when they initially took it at each appointment. Maybe it was white coat syndrome. The OB would then have me lie down on my left side for 10 or 15 minutes and take the reading again. It would still be high, but usually not as high.
@MetsGirl18 I do have white coat syndrome and they've had me taking my blood pressure at home, but it's started to get higher at home now. Been drinking lots of water and keeping my feet up as much as possible. Haven't been put on bed rest and hoping things stay well enough to not have to do that. Thankfully, my shower is this Saturday. With 37 weeks being a real possibility, it's making us realize that we need to make sure we have all the essentials.
I had a checkup today with one of the OBs who I really like, but haven't seen yet during this pregnancy. She was very candid and admitted that the diabetes place that does the monitoring isn't good. Not that they don't do their job, but the bedside manner is really lacking and the fact that they use scare tactics. She was also frustrated that they didn't make more of an effort to fit me in sooner. They're affiliated with the hospital which is why I assume the practice refers patients to them. Since I have my glucometer from last time, she asked me to start taking my fasting number and 1 after meal reading each day just to keep an eye on things.
I had my Tdap shot. Hoping my arm isn't too sore tomorrow and that I don't have any reaction. I had some protein in my urine, but my BP was good and she said it could've been due to not drinking enough water. I worked out before the appointment and then was running around the house taking care of things so I was probably a little dehydrated. She didn't seem concerned and just said to make sure I drink enough water before my next appointment.
