If you ordered the first birthday cake, how much did you pay for it?

I just got a quote for $75.00 for a monkey cake. That seems like a lot of money for a birthday cake....or is it???

  • I got a two-tiered cake from Central Market in mill creek.  I think it cost me $40??  $75 seems a bit pricey...

  • I wanted the Martha Stewart Monkey Cake, and got a quote from celebrity cake studio in Tacoma. Do you know a baker in or aorund Tacoma that is more reasonable? urgghh...I wish I were crafty...

  • I just made that cake last weekend for Mason's party, it is so easy, you could totally do it (or ask a Grandma).  If your not up for the challenge I would just go to a nicer or high end grocery store.  Dimageo you have a Haggen's or QFC near you?  I bet they could do something monkey for you for cheaper then that quote.

  • I guess it depends on how detailed it is?  I got Cruz a piggy cake, a smash cake and ducky cupcakes that ended up being about $65 total.  I highly recommend talking to the madison park bakery!

  • I got ours at Safeway - they weren't as involved as the monkey cake, but the TInkerbell one was $10, and the Thomas one was $19.

I would ask at grocery stores and see what they can do.  Or make your own monkey cake.  $75 seems crazy.

  • I haven't ordered a cake since our wedding one, but that does seem high for a birthday cake. I don't know any bakeries in Tacoma, but I think the suggestions of checking with grocery stores are good. Good luck!

  • We bought DS's 2nd birthday cake @ Baskin Robbins & paid about $40 for the largest size fire truck design.
  • Oh, and FYI if you are checking w/grocery stores: Metropolitan Market gets their cakes from Celebrity Cake Studio.  So, don't ask them!  :-)

  • Yeah, that's steep. I usually paid about $40 for my older kids' cakes. The girls' cakes were smash cakes and plated cake slices for the adults, so I'm not even sure how much it cost since it was added into the event price.
