Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Missed Miscarriage

I went in for an U/S yesterday and found out that my baby's heartbeat had stopped beating somewhere around 8-8.5 weeks. I would've been 10 weeks today. It took me a year to get pregnant. I am so devastated. I didn't have any symptoms of a miscarriage. I came home with my dead baby in my belly and am scheduled to have the pregnancy aborted next week. I'm so so sad. Has this happened to anyone?

Re: Missed Miscarriage

  • @muneeram so sorry for your loss.

  • Sorry to hear. That happened with my first pregnancy. I came in at 11 weeks and was in complete shock hat there was no heart beat but I still had morning sickness. It happened on a Friday and my surgery wasn't until the Tuesday after. It is hard to sit there and wait. I drank some wine and ate sushi plus other things that pregnant people shouldn't eat...helped a little.

  • @chaser61  Yeah. In my case we waited 2 weeks until the surgery. In a hope for natural m/c... those 2 weeks really sucked.

  • @Prudence9 my OB at the time pushed me to get the D&C. I thought about waiting for it to happen naturally but I felt like a ticking time bomb over the weekend and just wanted to move on. You are a strong lady to get through those two weeks.
  • @chaser61 in my clinic they do MUA which is a mini D&C and you are awake for it. I was terrified of it and afraid of scarring... looking back, I should have not wasted my time like that... not only you know you have a dead embryo inside you but you also have pregnancy symptoms...

  • @Prudence9 They put me out completely for mine. It was the first time I was ever put under general anesthesia so I was scared. But yeah I am not sure being awake would be any better. I read something that weekend that helped be through carrying the dead embryo. I can't remember it exactly but it was something like: think of it as caring for your baby a little longer and keeping baby in a loving resting place. Pinterest had a lot of inspirational sayings and quotes that helped me through.
  • @chaser61 yeah... it's not easy...  :/

  • Lost mine at 8 weeks measuring 7 and got a d&c. Recovered in a day so it wasnt too bad. It happens and sadly we all need answers we cant get. Just pray hard, be in good health, avoid stress and keep positive  :)
  • @chaser61 Carrying around my dead baby until I had the D&E was an absolutely horrible feeling. I like how you worded it though... Keeping baby in a loving resting place. That helps. I was 16 weeks along but baby only measured at 15 weeks.
  • Just confirmed my miscarriage over the weekend. Trying to decide what to do, whether I leave it to happen naturally or book in to get it over and done with. I just want this to be a big mistake.
  • @lokibear89 sorry for your loss
  • I am so sorry for your loss. The pain is hard to bear, I know. The same thing happened to me when I went in for an ultrasound at 10 1/2 wks last year and they said it stopped growing at 8 weeks. I had no symptoms, took Cytotec which I would not recommend, and bled for 10 weeks before my levels came back to normal. It has been the hardest year of my life. I finally went to a specialist and recently found out I am pregnant with twins so I hope that gives you hope and I pray for anyone who has to go through that.
  • I am so sorry for your loss. This has happened to me 3 times in a row, so I know exactly how you feel. Please take care of yourself and know that it is not your fault. It happens much more often than you think.
  • i was just told Tuesday that i had miscarried.  we found at 7 weeks i was pregnant (saw fetus and strong heartbeat).  the nest week we went on a trip to Italy and had a great couple of weeks).  came back and had my first trimester screen at 11 weeks.  was told the baby had probably stopped growing soon after 7 weeks and that even thought he doctor had detected a heartbeat on monday i had miscarried.  still getting use to that and don't know what to do right now.
  • Yes, I was 9 weeks pregnant and found out (after pink spotting) that baby had stopped growing at 6.5 weeks. I let the M/c happen naturally (not recommended). It's taken us over 12 months to conceive again. I had a scan 3 weeks ago which was fine heartbeat etc and have a 12 week scan tomorrow and I'm absolutely freaking out. I hope it doesn't happen again as I'm 38 nearly 39 years old.
  • This happened to me. I went in for an ultrasound at 10 weeks 5 days and found the baby had stopped growing at 8 weeks. I got pregnant through IVF so I had already had 2 prior ultrasounds and saw the heartbeat. It was hard to say the least. My Dr scheduled a d&e for the next day. He was worried that because it had been over 2 weeks that I was at risk for infection. I went for my post op appointment to make sure uterus was clear and it was thankfully. We also found out that the baby was a girl and had trisomy 9 which means even if she did make it to term she probably wouldn't have lived more than a few months. Honestly having the surgery and getting the genetic results back was probably the best thing for closure for us because we were able to name her and truly understand why we lost her in the first place. I hope you all find peace and don't give up. We want to try again and are going to get started probably next month since the loss was in October.

  • I am still waiting for my missed miscarriage to pass naturally.  we went in for our first trimester screen appointment on Monday (I was 11 weeks) .  the midwife could not find a clear picture and I had to come in for a radiology ultrasound that confirmed miscarriage (said fetus meausred at 7 weeks 3 days).  I had a follow up appointment on Friday and was still hopeful something was missed.  no such luck.  I decided to try and see if I would pass anything first, and scheduled a d and c for this upcoming Friday.  having consistent cramps every day since Monday but no bleeding yet.

I am in the process of having a mmc. We saw a heartbeat at 6 1/2 weeks. I was starting to feel better the last few weeks but assumed it was because I was nearing the end of the first trimester. Last week I had my hormone levels checked and was sent for an ultrasound because they fell. We went yesterday for the ultrasound and the ultrasound tech said the baby stopped developing at 8 weeks. I would have been 12 weeks tomorrow. I had started having some mild cramping and spotting a couple of nights ago but it’s weird, as soon as we found out about the loss the cramping and bleeding starting getting worse. I am praying to pass it all naturally and quickly. And still trying to process our loss.
  • I too had a delayed miscarriage. My first sign was pink discharge only once when I wiped at 7 weeks 4 days, followed by brown spotting only when i wiped the next couple days. The ob office tried to reassure me, but I got an appointment at the ob at 8 weeks 1 day. Ultrasound showed no heartbeat and baby stooped growing at 6 weeks 3 days. 4 days later, I got the first gush of red blood. I go back to the doctor in 3 days to determine if a procedure is needed.
  • Hi there knottie. I hope you’re doing ok. Sorry for your loss. I was pretty surprised at the emotional toll my mmc took on me earlier this month. If you need support, I’ve found this community to be great. I mostly lurk but just reading others’ stories has been helpful and informative.

You might want to try changing your username from the default.  I had to log out and back in before it took effect.
  • Just an update, found out I had a mmc in October after an ultrasound at 9 weeks. After 2 weeks (was hoping it would pass on its own) I went in and had the tablets. Had a little blood but nothing really happened. After another 2 weeks (they made me wait a week to see what would happen, and then I had to fit the whole thing around work) I had a d&c. Seemed to go fine and after 5 weeks or so I had my first AF although it was quite light. Now having my second AF since D&C and it is very heavy and I'm passing some large clots, but it was right on time so heres hoping when we start trying again it will happen as quickly as possible.
