Group B Test while on antibiotics

I have my group B Strep test on Tuesday and I'll be on antibiotics.  Has anyone else had this test while taking antibiotics?  Did your OB go ahead and treat you during labor just in case?

Doesn't your ob know you are on antibiotics? I'm sure they know what to do.

Seems like antibiotics would affect your results, but the type and how long you've been on them will also make a difference. I'd call the office and ask.

I'm getting an antibiotic from my ENT and i
called my OB's office and wanted to ask my OB or the NP but the person answering the phone told me to just take them,  it's just for a cyst I have in my throat that flared up every now and then.  I just don't want to risk having GBS during delivery and not being treated...

To answer your question, OP, taking oral antibiotics only decreases the bacterial load for a short time but won't eliminate it. The GBS swab should still pick up the bacteria if it's present and you should still expect to receive IV antibiotics during L&D if you do test positive. As PPs have posted, your OB should be made aware of the meds you're currently on as he/she will make sure that it is noted when your culture is sent to the lab.
