Everyone enjoying their warm weather: lucky you! It got up to 50 yesterday and then started snowing around 1030pm. We have about 18 inches of snow and they have prolonged the length of the storm to last through Saturday rather than Friday.
@brookedeyo@bumpybump southeastern Wyoming. It quit snowing for a couple hours his afternoon but it's back at it. Snow on Mother's day is not uncommon. Snow after Mother's Day is nearly unheard of. But we didn't get much snow this winter so we were past due.
I've never heard of fried pickles...I'm in California...where can I get these magical things??? Ideally in the next few hours because I start not being able to eat by the afternoon...yum.
@bumpybump I am the exact same way! I had never heard of a fried pickle until a few years ago, and a southern restruant came to town and had them! I hate dill anything, but give me all the sweet and bread and butter pickles any day!

@Vamason89@taylormarie923 Parts of Dallas are all "I'm so healthy! I eat quinoa!" And I'm a Midwestern girl that is used to fried state fair foods! I once tried a deep fried stick of butter at the Iowa State fair
I've never had fried pickle spears, only the chips. I feel left out! I love the chips though, with spicy ranch.
Additional FFFC: My 10yo got in trouble this week at school (over something ridiculous), and he wasn't allowed to participate in field day today, so I let him stay home instead. I didn't think it was fair punishment & I didn't want him sitting in the office/library feeling bad about himself when all the other kids are playing games outside.
@PinkPrincessPiper what did your DS do? I think that if you felt the school/teacher was unfair in the punishment, its awesome that you let him stay home. I hate when schools are unfair with punishment. It was one of the reasons I left my teaching job, and chose to change careers.

Heck yeah midwestern state fair foods. I had fried Oreos- at a Chicago street fest actually, lol.

DS had a fabulous teacher that went on maternity leave about a month ago. We've had problems with his long-term sub since she started (who is his former 1st grade teacher). She said he cut in line at the water fountain. He says he got in his appropriate spot (they line up alphabetically). I'm not 100% sure what happened, but regardless it all seems so minor to have Field Day taken away from him as punishment. Make him write sentences, or an apology note (if it's even warranted). Don't take away the funnest day of the school year. Ugh. So, yes, I think I did the right thing by my child. Only 3 days left next week, and then we (hopefully) won't have to deal with that teacher ever again.
@PinkPrincessPiper wow! That seems like a huge over reaction! Even If ds did cut in line, that's not a reason to take a whole day of fun away!

@PinkPrincessPiper that punishment seems over the top! I can't imagine punishing a child for that. Or if so, it should be something related like being at the end (or front) of line the next time we line up. Punishing him for a whole day (a week later) seems extreme. I don't think I have ever had a child miss field day!
@Kudlica27@littlebug2010 I know it seems cliché, but this teacher has it out for him. She also attempted last month to take the field trip to our state capital away from him (over the stupid flippin' fidget spinner!). I asked the office when to expect the refund for the field trip (it was $30 since they took a chartered bus, etc), and only then did the asst. principal tell me that he was allowed to go, and that they "don't take away field trips as punishment". But field day is different? *eyeroll*
On the other hand, DS2 (who goes to the same school) had a blast at field day & enjoyed popsicles and Icees between the activities.
@PinkPrincessPiper Teachers like that are horrible! My first year of teaching, a few of the "old school" teachers were always trying to get some of the boys in trouble in their classes. It was horrible to see, and made it even harder when they did actually get in trouble, to discipline them.

He also wasn't allowed to have a drink from the water fountain (they were just coming in from recess). That REALLY pissed me off.
@PinkPrincessPiper That wold make me mad too! Were other kids allowed? Sometimes I ask my kids to wait until we get to the fountain closer to our room, but how can you say no to water? Some teachers baffle me!
Re: UO 5/18
And fried pickle spears are the clear winners. But I won't say no to a basket of fried pickle chips either.
