Baby Names

Same middle name for siblings?

is it weird to have the same middle name for siblings? DS1 middle name is Parker which was my husbands fathers name. He's deceased so when I suggested Parker as a middle name for DS1 he loved it!

We are expecting another boy and he wants Parker for the middle name again. Is that weird? Or maybe it's ok since it's unlikely people will even know since it's a middle name and not a first name. I don't know.

TIA

Re: Same middle name for siblings?

  • It's odd, but if you want to do it, go for it

  • I was given the same middle name as my mom, which was based off of her grandmother's name. My sister wasn't. She often says she wished she had it, too, when the topic of names comes up. It might seem strange if there was no family connection, but with it, I don't think many would find it odd, and your son might be appreciative of the family connection when he's older.

I think it's odd but not a problem if that's what you want to do

maybe there is another family name you could use like your maiden name, his mother's maiden name, etc

I don't think it's that odd, especially because it has family significance. If you wind up having a third boy, I think you would have to use Parker again IMO

I grew up with a close friend and her and both her brothers middle names were Quinn, their mom's maiden name.

I also have a friend that she and both of her brothers don't have a middle name at all.

  • I think it's weird but it isn't a big deal. I would just make sure their first names don't start with the same letter.
  • I don't think it's a problem at all

  • I think it's odd unless it's a maiden name and you are doing that as opposed to two LN or hyphens... it's not completely off the wall, so if you want to go for it...
  • It's a little weird but not really a problem. If you have any more boys though you might feel like you have to continue the trend so nobody feels left out.

  • I think it's odd, unless they both had your maiden name. Other than that, I'd pick a different name. I even know sisters whose mns are Lee and Leeann, and I've always thought that's kinda weird.
  • Middle names are not used that often. I see no problem with that. My DD shared my middle name.
  • All my kids have middle names after a family member. I thought about reusing one for baby #4 since we ran out of ones we like. I was going to use Oliver after my Dad who has passed but since it's a Girl we're doing Olivia :-)
  • My cousin`s 3 children, 2 boys and a girl, all have her maiden name for a middle name, I like that. A lot of the women in my family have the same middle name. I like names with a family connection.
No one else will ever know the strength of my love for you. After all, you are the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside.

Our neighbors daughters have the same middle name and then one daughter also gave her own daughter that same middle name. I think it's a sweet tradition.
