@DuchessOfCambridge  I feel ya on the self-conscious stuff! I'm already just kinda feeling chubby and uncomfortable, I can only imagine what those feelings will amount to postpartum! Just trying to remind myself this is all for the good of our little ones!
    1) How far along are you?
12w6d - the second trimester is in sight!
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
Saw our little one yesterday! Everything looked great, and they were moving around like crazy - so wonderful to see. We didn't have an NT scan (does every practice do this?) and they didn't even mention it but we did have the big genetic screening test done so hopefully that will all come back good.
    3) Cravings/symptoms?
My boobs are out of control, I'm going to have to get some maternity bras soon cause nothing is fitting! I have the occasional hip aches and it feels like they are stretching or something which the Dr. says is normal. Otherwise feeling really good.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
Rant is I'm over this cold rainy weather - give me some sunshine and warmth already!
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
    Nope!
    6) GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your SO?
    His sense of humor!

@safinn21 I really did think NT scans were standard but I keep being proven wrong. When they did your ultrasound they didn't also measure the fluid at the back of baby's neck? Seems like they might as well if they're already looking at him/her! Is the big genetic test the same thing as sequential screen? Either way, FX it all comes back great!

    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
We have our genetic counseling appointment and ultrasound tomorrow. Both excited to see Squish and nervous. What if something is wrong? What will we do about it? But one step at a time, right?  It also means we will know the sex in about a week.
    3) Cravings/symptoms?
Still with the nausea train, although I get more breaks from it now! When it kicks in, it's wicked. Still suuuuper sensitive to smells. Getting a bit of energy back, though, have managed to get in a couple of runs in the last week! They are slower after so much time off from 1st trimester woes, but it feels good to move a bit more.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
Emotionally I'm a bit of a wreck. I go from being super excited to very meh about the whole thing to angry. Last weekend were league tryouts that I couldn't attend, and watching all of my friends advance levels while I sit back was hard. Really hard. The marathon I'm no longer running is coming up and that's hard too. But there are also happy moments. I just need to get some lady friend time so I can properly rant and cry. Husbeast does his beast but he doesn't understand some of the emotional stuff and I don't want to worry him too much, and I know my bff won't judge me losing my shit. ;)
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
Has it started to feel real to any of you yet? If it took a while for you, when did it change? Like, my head knows it's a thing that's happening, I can feel some changes in my body, but I'm strangely detached. I know if something bad happened I would be devestated but right now it still feels like kind of an abstract concept and I sometimes forget it's a thing (at least until I start puking again, lol!).
    6) GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your SO?
Hes pretty much supportive of all my craziness, has hidden emergency ice cream in the house, and has been terribly patient.

    3) Cravings/symptoms? been craving sausage pizza...which I don't like. ugh
    4) Rants/raves/concerns? we finally officially announced yesterday and I told my team at work.  So excited to not have to hide being sick now!
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?  will the nausea ever really go away? Everybody keeps saying it will get better, and it did for a short time but it's back with a vengeance now
    6) GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your SO? he's just amazing all around, I love that he's my best friend and treats me really well. I'm very lucky to have him

    1) How far along are you?
    14 weeks! Woohoo, 2nd trimester!
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
NT scan last week was pretty much perfect, and I just got the results for the blood test screening which puts us well within the low risk category. I wasn't worried, but it was nice to have that information.
    3) Cravings/symptoms?
I crave all food now. I have like four different types of fruit at home, granola bars at work, cheez-its, pretzels, different flavored sparkling water, iced tea... I will eat ANYTHING right now and be happy.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
    Nothing but raves this week!
I'm really amazed at how much my symptoms really have improved. Still dealing with bloat but even that isn't as bad as it was because I'm more regular than I was a few weeks ago.

I can definitely feel a REAL bump beneath it all. The lowest part of my abdomen is very firm and hard. Ahhhhh I can't wait for it to get bigger.
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
Anyone doing a baby book? I bought the most adorable amazing baby book/pregnancy book/album at Barnes & Noble. It was created by Mindy Weiss and it covers your pregnancy up through baby's 4th year. It's a 3 ring binder so it's totally customizable and inclusive to all types of families and you can download and print extra pages from a website. I've already written a letter to baby and filled out the section about me. My husband is humoring me and said he would fill out the section about dad.

@irishfrisky yes, I totally get that feeling. It's only just starting to feel real for me now at 14 weeks and having seen how much more like a baby the ultrasound looked. But even still, during my day to day I don't think about it much. I mentioned above I started working on a baby book and tbh that's really helped me connect. I also went to babies r us and got a registry going because I'm tired of pulling up items online and not knowing a thing about what they're really like physically. Those things really helped get me feeling excited, because honestly, most of the time I'm not. I'm just too busy with work and trying to keep up with the house maintenance to daydream all day.

@DuchessOfCambridge Yeah it was the one where they can tell you the gender and all of that (although we're team green), just didn't know what it was called! lol. I guess maybe they do the NT screen based on risk factors which we really don't have and if they see anything suspicious on the ultrasound? The genetic screening should have all the info we need though so that's good.

@safinn21 I think you mentioned you're an RN so you prob know much better than me, but here was my experience:

I am also very low risk and had that same kind of ultrasound this past Thursday. For the NT screen part of the ultrasound, the tech looked at the back of baby's neck and measured the fluid there. The tech didn't actually tell us what she was doing, I only knew what it was based on my own research. They also had me get blood drawn which is the second part of the NT scan which is done regardless of if the ultrasound looks good (which ours did) but again, they didn't tell me that. It was too early to tell gender for us though.

  • Options
@DuchessOfCambridge huh,  maybe it's just procedure where I went but I sat down with a genetics counselor first and she explained risk factors and the purpose of the screening (all of which I knew already but it was nice to have it explained anyway). The us tech also explained everything she was looking for and what measurements she was taking before telling me that everything looked good and then the perinatologist came in and confirmed the results. I wasn't expecting to have been told so much into, but I think it was better than not being told.

@Tourmalily oh that sounds nice. No genetic counselor for us. The tech went and talked with the dr after the scan and came back and told us we were good to go, nothing about results. I saw my OB right after and she said that was all a good sign that no one said anything and she herself wasn't paged and that they didn't hold my bloodwork. Definitely thought it was kind of weird no one mentioned anything but whatever, I'm just happy everything looks good! Just waiting for lab results now.

  • Options
@DuchessOfCambridge my OB does my ultrasounds at the visit so we just kinda looked at the baby, he described what we were seeing, where the placenta was etc, measured the baby's length, heard the heartbeat and that was it. So if he was looking at the fluid behind the neck I did not notice. I am an RN and am in grad school but OB is definitely not my area! It was a pretty casual visit.

@safinn21 oh I see! My ultrasound was with MFM, so I get why that was different now. Still interesting NT scans aren't standard! Glad your baby looks great :)

    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? My next OB appointment isn't until May 25. I went in last week for routine bloodwork and for the draw for NIPT. All of the routine bloodwork came back great. Now I just need the NIPT results...so nervous.
    3) Cravings/symptoms? Craving EVERYTHING! Seriously, everything (except maybe big hunks of meat) is sounding good right now. I went to the grocery store after working out yesterday and came home beaming about all of my awesome purchases (uh, snack packs? yes please). Symptoms are getting a lot better but I still get hit with them every now and then. I got really lightheaded and clammy in the shower this morning, so that was fun.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns? I'm really excited because I figured out some travel planning for work today AND booked a fun long weekend with my sister for the summer. Going to talk to my husband tonight about what we want to do for our summer trip together.
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
    6) GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your SO? So many things, but probably the thing I appreciate most is how patient and deliberate he is. I am the opposite--oftentimes doing things wayyy too fast and in a hurry for everything. He thinks everything through and when he says something, you know he really means it. This has been especially helpful during pregnancy--his calm nature helps me to slow down, stop overthinking, and try to relax a little. I think we already made a pretty great team, but he's definitely been my MVP during pregnancy.

@irishfrisky I feel the exact same way re: it not feeling "real" yet. For me, I think it's a subconscious thing...like I can't possibly be this lucky when it's so hard for so many people, so the other shoe is bound to drop at some point (uplifting, I know). I think getting the NIPT results will help A LOT.

    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
Had one last Friday. It went well! And have an ultrasound and Dr visit tomorrow!!!
    3) Cravings/symptoms?
Tuna subs with provolone and black olives.yummmm...and I'm still nauseous
    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
Angry at my insurance company. They're making this whole thing that much harder.
But a rave? I'm showing enough people have stopped telling me I'm just bloated! I started showing during week 10 but people who didn't kno me prior (coworkers) all said I wasn't showing until today.
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
    6) GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your SO?
If anyone tries saying I'm being lazy/not doing much he's the first to stick up for me. My job is extremely demanding and I have fibromyalgia so he is the one who says I do more in a couple of hours than most people do in a week. He understands my struggles and doesn't try to make them worse - even when he gets frustrated when I don't have the energy to cook or clean

@DuchessOfCambridge I thought the NT scan was standard too! Especially since it's so simple and non-invasive. It's definitely standard at my practice. (Unless of course you want to opt out of genetic screening.) I suspect maybe it's not necessary if you are getting a more complex screening done that also checks for Down's and such? I'm not sure why else it wouldn't be done.

    1) How far along are you?
    11+4
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Nope! Looking forward to next week's ultrasound + tests + appointment.
    3) Cravings/symptoms? I've been craving dairy (um, and Oreos) more than usual, but mostly I'm just hungry in general all. the. time. My nausea has mostly been gone since I stopped progesterone; thank goodness for that.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns? A rant I guess? I'm really looking forward to having a real bump. Right now I just feel... let's say... self-conscious about my belly situation. I've always had abs and now... not so much. I think the arrival of the bump will also help me feel more confident about the pregnancy being for-real.
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
    6) GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your SO? Right now, it's that he is so helpful and supportive. When I feel tired/lousy, or have to work late, he makes dinner with no complaints, and picks up other chores that I am not getting to.

@DuchessOfCambridge I am also having a hard time with my changing body and I'm stressing about the baby's baptism ( which will be in july when the baby is 8 months old) worrying that I won't be back to my pre pregnancy weight by then.
@Tourmalily I have the Sofie le girafe pregnancy book and I really like it. There's space for DH to write things as well and a whole section on how we met and everything. It's a nice way to organize my thoughts bit I haven't been writing my weight or measurements or anything in it.

    1) How far along are you?
14 weeks and like 5 days or 3 days depends which midwife you ask
    2) Any appointments this week or last week?
     How did it go?
None, my midwife did call me today and let me know that my genetic tests came back negative so I am feeling so relieved
    3) Cravings/symptoms?
Redbull. I dream for fridges full of redbull. I think k about it all day. I go to convenience stores and just look at it through the glass. It is soooooo brutal
    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
    Nothing really.
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
I'm getting increasingly more excited about having a baby
    6) GTKY: What is your favorite thing about your SO?
Gosh I don't even know where I'd start. We have everything rough. We have a rough life and nothing has ever come easy for us but somehow our relationship has always come easy. It's so incredible to me how life can literally be shitting on us from every angle and he still manages to be amazing and make me laugh and smile. He's just such a positive person  and that makes us balance really well because I'm pretty anxious.

@bcashaw I haven't filled out the weight/measurements charts either, but I was considering doing it in a barebones kind of way - like, pre-pregnancy, weight at week 4, week 14, etc. to sort of show the general trend of body changes without getting obsessive because idgaf about my weight right now, I have too much else to worry about.  There IS a whole photo page for belly pictures though and I am gonna be ALL OVER that. I haven't and don't plan on posting any to social media (I'll post some here bc it's just us chickens) but I'd still like to have some as fun keepsakes and maybe one day the protomolecule will get a kick out of them.

@DuchessOfCambridge so! I was looking at my paperwork and I think the reason why my appointment was so involved is that it was actually at a center for Maternal and Fetal Medicine at a different hospital, where they have a lot of specialists. I guess my OB refers all patients there for screenings, testing, and anatomy scans. Apparently they will do the 3D ultrasound at my 20-week which is only siiixxx and a half weeks away omg.

@DuchessOfCambridge I am already having tbe same feelings. It doesn't help that people keel saying, " oh you'll just be all belly and go right back to your little self". It makes me stress out. What if I'm not all belly? Or I don't go right back to my previous size?

@safinn21 my practice doesn't recommend the NT scan if you do NIPT genetic testing.

    @irishfrisky good luck tomorrow!!

    @Tourmalily glad all went well!!!!

    @kaitlinliz good luck tomorrow!

@YesOuiCan yes on the self conscious. I wouldn't say I had abs haha but my stomach has always been very flat with a tiny waist. And now we have today where my pants unzipped themselves when I breathed in too deep. I also think I'll feel better when I have a bump.

@jess0211 sameee exact thoughts I'm having and comments I'm getting. I'm just trying to remind myself all my clothes still fit perfectly fine except in the waist because my uterus is literally pushing out.

Im also really used to eating whatever I want and not gaining any weight regardless of exercise. I am worried that if I have a lot to lose after baby I'll be too lazy to work for it and will just keep it. Thin girls have body image issues too.

    3) Cravings/symptoms? Cow milk (lactose free alternatives don't cut it), meat, and cheese for cravings. Good thing I'm not vegan but I did have to pick up lactase pills because I'm lactose intolerant. I forgot on Sunday and had the worse gas pains. I've been getting headaches and started getting cramps/stretching feelings again.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns? This move is going to be so stressful but I'm so excited. We'll fly when I'm about 17 weeks but won't get to GA until I'm about 19 weeks. I'll be setting up care with a new dr right when I need my a/s done. I have to change insurance and everything because we're coming from overseas. Coverage is the same and all that so it's not that bad but it prevents me from setting up drs apts before we get there.

@DuchessOfCambridge exactly the same! I keep reminding myself all my clothes still fit with the exception of a few pants that aren't comfy to button. I am also used to eating what I want,  though I do work out and I've been trying really hard to keep that up. I'm stressed right now bc I know the second we tell our family the comments will start. I wish I didn't have such body image issues (thanks Dad).
