hey everyone, I am more of a lurker here, but I couldn't think of anywhere else to lean for support right now. You ladies are really great.
We had our 12 week scan today and we were told our baby has Cystic hygroma that's almost 8mm. The doctor immediately started asking our opinion on termination and said he thinks we have a very small chance of having a healthy baby. We will get a CVS next week, hopefully there will be no chromosome abnormalities but the doctor was not optimistic. Maybe I'm grasping at straws here but has anyone else ever experienced this? I just want to curl into a ball and cry. I don't even know what to do with myself right now.
I'm so sorry that you're going through this! I'll keep you're little one in my prayers. My best friend's little guy was diagnosed with the same thing and it was found at her ultrasound around 16 weeks. Her baby is now 8 years old and he's the sweetest, most handsome kid. He had a really large cyst on his neck when he was born and it made it near impossible for him to breathe so he had to have surgery right away. The cysts grew here and there especially when he was really young and he had to have them drained and removed often but I'm pretty sure they've completely stopped at this point.
@nursereds9815 No experience here, but I wanted to reach out and send some support your way. It's a really tough situation to be in. Was it a 3D ultrasound with a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist?
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*
@nursereds9815 I have no personal experience with that, but just wanted to show my support. That is a really hard place to be. Keep us updated on the CVS. You and your baby will be in my thoughts.
Sending you lots of love and support , I can't imagine how difficult this is for you and you can always feel free to reach out on threads or in private message if you need to talk. FX everything turns out well for you. ❤
I'm so sorry. That would be so tough to hear. I'm so glad you came here for support. I'll be praying your baby will become healthy! I know in my last bump group someone's baby had a serious health concern (like, major, but I can't remember what it was) and later on in the pregnancy he was fine... I hope that happens with your baby.
I was born with a cystic hygroma on the back of my neck that was larger than my head. They immediately took me to a children's hospital for surgery the day after I was born and got it removed. All I have left is a scar. I think it largely depends on where the cyst is located and what systems it could affect, but I am a case where everything worked out just fine with a pretty large one myself.
I don't know much about it. But I think a bump friend recently had the same thing diagnosed, only the cyst was on baby's face near the eye! No one was talking about anything except watching it tho... and it must have resolved on its own bc Spoiler Alert: the baby was born totally fine! Not sure if there's any reason for your doctor to suspect worse is going on? But sometimes I think all these early scans they do nowadays serve to (most often needlessly) fuel mom's anxiety, imho. (((Hugs)))
