long intro (**tw** recent late term loss)

edited May 2017 in Infertility
hello :) I usually hang around in the TTC after 35 board but I thought I would expand to the IF board too

DH & I have been together for almost 8 years but we didn't state ttc until April 2016 - prior to that we were NTNP which i know seems like a long time with no oops but BD'ing for us was never really super regular due to work schedules and other circumstances so I wasn't really worried about it.... We did see a RE right away when we were ready to try however because I was 34 and knew my fertile years would be over soon and wanted all the help we could get

My first RE wanted to push me into an IUI right away with no testing- we did try one round of clomid + iui and it was a BFN we then switched REs

My second RE did all the normal blood work up and a HSG, as of Sept 2016 these were my CD 3 numbers:
FSH 7.3
Estradiol 24.1
AMH 1.41

and my HSG showed clear tubes...

also DH had a SA done (actually multiple) and he has no issue

I was super optimistic however my RE wanted us to jump right into IVF... we couldn't afford that and since I was going to be out of town on and off from Oct- Dec  decided we would do IUI with injectables starting Jan 2017

**TW BFP & loss** however before we could start IUIs we got a spontaneous (!!!!)  BFP 01/01/2017  and were so excited...we held our breath through the first trimester and when we entered the second trimester we really thought our family was going to be complete.  unfortunately at our Anatomy Scan we found my cervix had dialated 3 cm and and after performing an amnio found an infection had set in the amniotic fluid.... due to the infection my high risk OB would not place a cerclage. My options were to either induce (we were 19 weeks 1 day along) knowing my son would not make it, or let it go knowing it would happen on it's own eventually however he advised the infection was severe and doing this would most likely lead to me losing my uterus. We induced that night - it was the most painful experience mentally, emotionally and physically I have ever been through. Our son Alexander was born sleeping that night ***end of TW**

we went back to our RE this week and have decided to move forward with our IUI with injectables  & a second HSG starting in June- she seemed much more optimistic this time around (i'm not sure if it was because we got a natural bfp once now) but i'm much less optimistic - the stats for 35+ getting pregnant with IUIs just are not good but i'm crossing our fingers bc we cannot afford IVF

i'm looking forward to meeting all the ladies here!

    Thank you everyone :)

@hopeful_mom my high risk OB and my RE disagree about what they think happened ...I dialated early and I had an infection ...what they disagree on is which most likely happened first ....my RE thinks I had an incompetent cervix which would account for the painless dilation and that allowed the infection in ....my MFM says he thinks I got an infection and that put me into preterm labor.....there are a couple of issues with his theory; 1. If my cervix was closed how did the infection get in there (they say it can just happen). 2. Based on his theory I was in labor contracting enough to dilate but felt nothing ......seems unlikely

so since they disagree on the underlying cause both doctors disagree on what should happen if I get pregnant again - my RE wants me to get a preventative cerclage but my MFM just wants to monitor my cervix length with biweekly ultrasounds....

i am going to push to get the preventative cerclage and a few rounds of lowdose preventative antibiotics ...I kind of figure that covers both bases

it takes a lot to not give up and move on even though you are never going to be able to move on fully or forget what's happened in the past and what you've gone through. but I am sure that this has no ability to stop you from getting a next positive cycle. infertility journey as I see it has a lot of unexpected turns to it, you can get your bfp when you certainly have not been expecting it at all, all that is very sad you can have no luck conceiving while having a perfect health..
I really hope you have a lucky iui cycle

    We're here with you.... hun!
    xx
