Uterine Scraping/ Biopsy?

I've been MIA while we sit in IVF limbo but I just met with my RE to discuss our options for the next round.  She is suggesting a uterine scrape /biopsy before we start our next cycle, has anyone done this before?  She is offering it as an option because she says there's no reason why I am not pregnant and she wants to offer something else.  I am not sure what to do, she doesn't believe it hurts but I'll have to wait another cycle before we start.  I know long term that's not a big deal but I'm getting impatient.  Any input is welcome :)

Re: Uterine Scraping/ Biopsy?

  • Yes! I had this done right before our 3rd FET. I think this played a big role in why it worked. I found it super painful, but it only lasted 30 seconds. I say go for it. (But maybe take some strong pain meds right before). Wishing you luck!!

I had this (hysteroscopy w/biopsy) done between my first and second IVF cycles (no transfer yet) because my first cycle went so awfully, we were considering a day 3/fresh transfer for round 2 in case we had as few/dismal-looking embryos at that point.  So wanted to make sure my ute was in tip top shape to prepare jistnin case.  My RE actually biopsies during ER too - found "inflamed cells" (PID?  I guess that can happen after birth/*TW* loss with cervix open, among other things) so I did a two week course of doxy to address that.

The delay involved for me was one week - I was on OCP from my next CD3-10 to maintain visibility for the hysteroscopy (it's been previously scheduled for CD11) then I went off of it and waited to ovulate to start luteal lupron.  Maybe if scheduling is easier for you (I needed OR and all that), they could time it so you don't even need OCP?

Interesting that you say she doesn't believe it hurts - I had twilight anesthesia for it (same as for egg retrievals) and my insurance company appears to agree with your RE as they denied the anesthesia claim.  I think they're still working on it, but it's been annoying.

Thank you @LeFemmeViolette, I think we're going to do it!!

@artemis618 sorry I was mobile bumping and I when I said "she doesn't think it hurts", I meant my RE doesn't think it will negatively effect our IVF.  She doesn't do it often but wanted to offer a small change in protocol.  However, it sounds like mine is done in an exam room so I don't think there would be an twilight or anesthesia.  Thank you for your insight though! I had never heard of this and am open to pretty much anything these days.
  • @Aera11 LOL - just goes to show where my brain is - I just talked to the insurance company about it yesterday :p. Hope it helps!

Haha no it's okay @artemis618!  I should probably call our insurance to see if it's covered...
  • Do ittttt. It's super painful- i had 2. The second was probably the most pain I've ever been in (but thats partially because my cervix would not open).

    *******TW****

I had a spontaneous pregnancy the month after my biopsy/scratch. I had never seen 2 lines before and am now 22 weeks 3 days with a baby girl. My perfect FET even failed. Anyway, I am strongly convinced this is why I was able to conceive.

Congrats on your baby girl @omarismyhomeboy!  And thank you so much for sharing your advice :)  I am definitely doing it now!  I'll be back on the June IVF board b/c I am guessing my retrieval will be mid-June.
