Re: Daily- Wednesday May 3rd

  • Here's mine today. A rant. I was going to tell my boss today. We're really close (she came to my wedding as a friend, not my boss) and she knows how hard I've been struggling getting pregnant and I know she will be SOOOOOO excited for me (to the point of saying "we're having a baby") and if it doesn't work out she would be incredibly supportive of me. Plus I think it's a good idea for someone at work to know, in case I pass out or something happens to me, I need someone to be able to tell the paramedics I'm pregnant. There are only three of us normally in the office, so I was just going to tell both ladies (I'm close with the other lady too). Then our regional trainer decided today would be a great day to have new hire orientation in our office. Ugh! So now I have to wait until tomorrow. I just want to get it out of the way and tell her!!!

@MrsDorkCharming so frustrating! It's so hard to wait, too!

  • @MrsDorkCharming ugh I'm sorry - that is super frustrating. Hopefully tomorrow you'll get to share the good news with them. :)

I'm pretty sure I'm coming down with a head cold. I've been feeling off the past few days, and today I've developed a cough. :/ I've read medications in the 1st trimester are bad. Any suggestions for what kinds of meds I can safely take, if any at all?
  • @MrsDorkCharming  How annoying! I’m the opposite and desperately do not want anyone in my office to know until they must and certainly until I see that heartbeat. Unfortunately, I made a huge ongoing scene about wanting another baby, so if anything is off (like when I miss work for an appointment on the 17th), they’ll put the dots together!

@darkrose88  If I recall from my pregnancy with DD, Robitussin is safe to take during pregnancy (it does not include alcohol and other things). Of course it doesn’t work as well but I did find it helped).

I've decided to wait to tell my parents that I am pregnant ASAP, and it's hard... last time I told my mom before I told my fiance (now husband). I just want things more set in stone etc. I'll probably tell them after our first appointment, fingers crossed. But I feel super weird not talking to her about it.

@EmilyLove25 good to know about Robitussin. Also, I completely understand over how hard it is not to tell your mom. Last time I was pg, I told my mom right away. This time, I've only shared IRL the news with DH and my best friend. I want to wait awhile before telling anyone else. I'm just very nervous about a loss, so I don't want to tell her until I feel more confident in my pg.

    Edit - for clarification

I'm just reeling over all the ways I've already screwed up.

    I drank some unpasteurized juice.
I tried a little goat cheese that tasted off, but I thought it was just my extra strong sense of smell.  No, my wife confirmed that it was off.
I put Advantage on my dog, and then pet her a few minutes later, getting insecticide all over my hands (which is designed to be absorbed into the body, and to stay there, killing fleas and ticks).

I know, these are all probably okay, but if I had thought first, I wouldn't have done any of it.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

@EmilyLove25 omg not telling my mom has been the hardest thing EVER (other than actually getting pregnant that is).  We talk almost every other day. I decided I wanted to tell both sets of parents at the same time and DH said he doubted I could wait that long to tell my mom, challenge accepted! -said in my best Barney Stinson voice. If he hadn't said that I would have caved and blabbed
@KLake42 we had steaks the other night and we like them barely medium rare, didn't even think about it until the next day I saw something specifically about steaks needing to be more medium well than rare. I texted DH saying "NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT STEAK"
I'm good with giving up booze and my raw fish but someone please tell me I don't have to eat hockey pucks for 9 months!

  • @JuliaGoolia719 medium is fine, especially if you grill at home and it's fresh.

@EmilyLove25 same here... It's so hard not telling anyone! My husband is the worst with keeping secrets too! I want to wait until after my 8 week appt to make sure all is well. I'm not even 5 weeks and he's begging to tell his mom. I compromised and said at 6 weeks we will tell our parents but no one else until after 8 weeks. So hard!!
  • @KLake42 I definitely think I like you. I feel like such a floaty mess so far and would say I'm close to being Juno. I bought a prego yoga book as my first big contribution to being on top of things and it's sat on my coffee table collecting dust. I had nachos probably five days in a row prior to finding out and Taco Bell after.. I don't know what it is but I wanted major salt! I'm now really trying to shove a piece of fruit down my throats at least once a day but it's not easy. And I'm not a horribly unhealthy person either.

@KLake42 Did you lick your hands after petting the dog? No? I think you're fine  ;)
My SIL is the queen of pregnancy rules. I thought about her and snickered while I ate hot dogs and lunch meat today  :#

@darkrose88 I highly, highly suggest gargling with warm salt water and using a saline nasal spray. Both are completely safe, and should help keep some of the yuck flushed away. Oh and lots of clear fluids! Hope you feel better quickly

ETA because autocorrect is out to destroy me.

  • Hope it's ok to weigh in a day after!

@darkrose88 if you end up with any congestion, I highly suggest NetiPot! I haven't been able to take decongestants since I'm still breastfeeding and it has saved me so many times over the last few months!

@KLake42 try not to get down on yourself. I've had so much wine/coffee the last couple weeks, and just had a medium rare steak last night before I tested. It was delicious.

I wanted to pop in here yesterday, but it was A Day.

@KLake42 and @JuliaGoolia719 I wanted to recommend a book "Expecting More"; I read it in my last pregnancy and -- If you're into that kind of thing -- it totally set my mind at ease about a lot of the things people tell you "not" to do during pregnancy!
