The most credible information that I could find (sorry I didn't save links) basically said not to do ab work after your ab muscles begin to separate - more than 3 finger widths was the point that I saw mentioned more than once.
I honestly cannot feel how far apart mine are. I'm kind of embarrassed.
I stopped doing abs this week when I felt physically limited in my core strength. Like my abs aren't helping me sit up out of bed or maneuver so I figured they had gotten to the point of useless. Also, I tried to lift a tray of food at work tonight and almost dropped it because apparently that took more core than I anticipated
My ob said specifically to use peppermint oil for my headaches.
The dose makes the poison. A few drops every so often won't do damage, and if a Dr knows you're responsible, they'll probably be upfront about that. I was recommended to use it on my belly a few times to flip my breech baby, and my doc could have cared less.
@pawcall I am and RN and was an athletic trainer so I have knowledge on the Tend. You know the place the electrodes a certain way so that the current travels between the two and through the muscle effected. Problem is the heart is pretty much an electrical unit as well and you would want the electricity from the TENs electrodes vearing off to babies heart or using it as a through way. From what I have read professionals don't suggest the use of a TENs until 37 weeks. The study I found was dated.
MississippiCatfish I didn't end up using it in labor but we used it during a natural childbirth class as one of several different options to test out for pain management.
Ever since I watched the first handful of episodes of Call the Midwife, I've wanted to ask about using Nitrous Oxide. I know a couple hospitals in my area have it. They make it look like a miracle drug. I wonder what it's like in reality during transition, which is typically the time that I could really go for a miracle;)
@MississippiCatfish I'm currently watching that episode where the doctor introduces it! I was going to look more into it just out of curiosity- seems like nowadays our options are epidural or nothing, so I was curious if there were other options.
@mississippicatfish A mom in my last BMB (she was Canadian I think) used the nitrous. She said it took the edge off but left her with a wicked headache. But overall was worth the tradeoff
I know a L&D here in Tampa that said they use it at her hospital and people love it.
I'm almost 15 weeks and still doing planks and abs. I did them until my bump didn't allow for it last time. I feel like it kept my stomach strong, bounced back quick and never got that muscle separation. I'm going to run it by my doc at my 16 week though. Curious to see what your friend says
Good news! Doctor said I can ride the rides at Disney because baby is still very protected and I don't need to worry about lifting heavy boxes at work. I was a little surprised about the lifting answer but I'll ask the other doctor too at my next appointment.
Going to ask her if it's okay to paint. We remodeled our whole upstairs in our house and we need to paint it all... MIL and mom are concerned about the fumes.
