I don't think it's cute when people let their kids have unkempt hair. DS got his hair cut about 6 weeks before his 1st birthday because he looked like a hot mess with it all uneven. And not just little boys, my sister and her husband drive me nuts, my sister keeps her hair short, but her husband insists on keeping their daughter's hair long. They get it trimmed every 6 weeks, but neither of them can put it in a decent pony tail or fix it. Also, when little boys have long hair and the parents get offended when people think they're girls, sure that's gender stereotyping, but something you need to prepare yourself for if you make the decision to let your son have long hair.
@SouthernMama15 I'll be the first to say a little girl's hair can be difficult to keep looking "nice." My DD is almost 3 and there are days she won't let me easily touch her hair. It's one of those battles I sometimes don't fight. Luckily, she's curly so it can get away with more of the unkempt look.

@bumpybump I understand that, I've seen some epic fits from my niece, but it's the keeping it long part that drives me crazy. And the poor kid looked like a sheep dog from 6 months to a year because her hair never fell out and grew right over her eyes, but BIL refused to let her get it cut till she was 1.
DD's hair looks messy a lot of the time because it's STILL too short to do anything with. I brush it but becuase its so fine a tiny breeze messes it all up. I had the ends trimmed a few months ago to keep it healthy and each little strand that fell broke by heart. I can get it into a pony but it still looks bad because it's so thin. Just within the last year her hair grew enough that people stopped asking if she's a boy if she isn't dresses overtly girly. (Which doesn't offend me it just makes me sad that she's three and my not even one year old niece has so much more hair. Hair envy) This just turned into a vent lol
My daughter is 3/4 black 1/4 white and has hair very similar to mine. It's light brown, fine, and extremely curly. I have tried so many different things without introducing too many products since I'm trying to just use natural products while she's still so young. But usually it just ends up looking like a frizzy Mohawk. She still doesn't have much hair on the sides or back and people think we cut it into that style and that she's a boy... ugh. I remember saying I would always keep my kids hair neat but I literally have no idea how to keep her hair from frizzing at 13 months old. I have a hard enough time keeping my own hair frizz free with all the deva curl and curly girl methods lol
Didn't mean to judge or offend, I know it's definitely a UO. I have super curly hair and it looked awful most of my life. My mom didn't know what to do with it and after blowing it out daily, in 2nd grade she took me and had it chopped off. I looked like a bit. I was sickly and had huge bags under my eyes. Maybe I have residual issues from being so homely as a child. I promise y'all I'm not that vain
@SouthernMama15 I think maybe you're thinking the people who just straight up don't even attempt to run a brush through their kids hair. I actually have a cousin somewhere thrown in DH's mix that has a daughter whose hair is ALWAYS a rats nest. Like bed head 24/7. They recently pixie cut it and it's sticking out even more! I can appreciate that kids don't always like that stuff but I'd be doing maximum bribing to at least water it down and comb it. Don't always need a bow or a pony but no bed head. Although I kinda love when the kids get picked up after day care or school and their hair is a hot mess from all their activities. That stuff cracks me up lol
@SouthernMama15 No offense here either! It was one of my "when I'm a mom my child will never..." phrases that I'm unfortunately having to eat right now. To be honest, I think her hair is still beautiful as it's frizzy mess but I'm also a bit self conscious about it when others comment. Most people say "love the hair/hairdo!" and a part of me is like, are they being facetious? Haha. One day her hair will all grow in and I'll figure out the perfect trick to keep her curls shiny and bouncy
@cmmiller531 exactly. I know kids don't look perfect, mine surely doesn't, but the people who don't try bug me. I'm not saying it has to be fixed everyday and look impeccable, but it's obvious when people don't try at all.
@SouthernMama15 I had curly sue style curls as a kid-I loved them. My mother hated them, they were too hard to deal with. She took me to get a hair cut when I was like 6 and chopped it off. I looked like a boy. I hated it and her SO much. I cried, I yelled, I didn't talk to her for days. My father was pissed. I didn't like girly clothes, so my hair was totally my girl trait. So I 100% understand the haircut childhood trauma. Never grew back curly and cute-just frizzy and waves.
My own UO- I hate the Snoogle!! My DH surprised me with one the other night. It is scratchy and weird and too big and I hate it! I throw it out of bed every night. Pretty sure it will be going back.

@Nxy I was your DD when I was a kid. I didnt have my first "Trim" until I was 2.5 and my mom couldnt do much until I was almost 5. When I was a baby and young toddler she used velcro to attach bows to my head. She was the type that got offended if someone thought I was a boy, so I had to be in pink and wear bows every day.

Mommy to a super cute havanesse puppy and baby boy!
@SouthernMama15 if I have a boy and he has curls I'm not cutting his hair until he asks for it. I don't care if people think he's a girl. I love curls!
I guarantee my kid's hair is going to be stick straight based on my and my husband's hair texture. If we can avoid anything resembling an awkward bowl cut, I'll be happy.
@SpotConlon I'm dying. We Have friends with 3 daughters and they cut their hair exactly like that. They think they look like cabbage patch dolls, but they really look like Chris Farley.
@livlew-2 Cutting my son's hair actually made it curlier. I think It helped cut out all the fine baby hair. We waited a longggg time to cut it, and don't plan to do it again soon.
@Nxy It wasnt as bad as it sounds. I had hair, but it was just super short, and I really couldn't wear anything more than pig tails. My hair was also SUPER thin, and blonde. Right around the time I went to Kindergarten, my hair really started to grow, and its changed so much since I was a little kid. Hopefully your DDs hair will start to really grow soon!

I'll admit DH has been making comments for months that DD needs a cut and I totally agree but it's so emotional for me. Most days I just put it in a pigtail because it's past her eyes. She turns 1 next week. I think the difficult part is that she is the busiest kid and refuses to be held for a second, and gets distracted by everything. I'm afraid they will botch it. So I'm waiting until her birthday is over so she looks cute at the party. And then I'll deal with the mess.
@HappyToBeHere I would take the caaaassssh girl! and yes, I would still dislike Oprah. I'm more of a Judge Judy kinda gal.
@SpotConlon I totally had a Dorothy Hamill haircut as a child and it still haunts me. Once my hair turned wavy and then curly, I was finally allowed to grow it out. I've made a lot of hair mistakes in my life but none of them compare to that terrible stage.
My own UO- I hate the Snoogle!! My DH surprised me with one the other night. It is scratchy and weird and too big and I hate it! I throw it out of bed every night. Pretty sure it will be going back.
I also hated my snoogle until we got a jersey cover for it. I couldn't stand to put my face on it. The soft jersey cover is MUCH nicer.
Both of my boys have pretty thick hair. DS1 has slightly wavy hair and he definitely has bed head many mornings. Sometimes he cares and uses water and a comb and sometimes he leaves it if it isn't too wild. He's 8 and I tell him to fix his hair sometimes, but I'm not going to force the issue. DS2 has curls when we grow his hair out a little. It's still short enough that there's no doubt he's a boy. He still gets his hair cut and loses the curls for a bit, but I miss the curls when that happens. He gets crazy hair, which he will sometimes brush and other times wants it left alone, but the wild hair totally fits with his personality. He's 4.5 and a handful so I definitely pick and choose my battles with him.

I actually put a pillow case over the part where I lay my head. The bottom portion doesn't bother me since I wear pants to bed (for now).

Based on comments above, my confession for tomorrow may need to be that I haven't had DD's hair cut yet and she'll be 3 in June. I didn't want her to have bangs so I just kept pulling them to one side and using a clip to keep them out of her eyes until they were long enough.
My UO, I hate push-up and/or thickly lined bras. I'm small chested and don't really want them to look bigger and actually dislike how large they get during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

I cut my son's hair because I'm cheap and lazy, but I am not nearly talented enough to do a good style so I just buzz it with the largest attachment I own. I hate it for the first few weeks while it grows back out.
@SouthernMama15 I am SO with you. My sister refused to cut my niece's hair for like 18 months because she loved her baby hair. It looked SOOOO terrible. I think my cousin's daughter (age 3) must have realized it (smirk) because they were playing "beauty shop" and my cousin's daughter cut a huge hunk out of my niece's hair with child scissors which finally forced my sister to get her a real haircut. Haha!
@taylormarie923 I hate it as well. I hate when tropical drinks have it in them.
@bumpybump I agree. But for the opposite reason. Before pregnancy I was a solid D and could not for the life of me figure out why someone with a D cup needed more push up and padding.

I cut my H's hair and I assume I'll cut our son's hair too. I'm not at all talented at it. So I hope he is okay with buzz cuts as he gets older.
@aehogan90 there's a good chance that I don't wear the correct size bra. I've been sized many places and come up somewhere between a D and an H (crazy!). I don't even have any idea how big I am right now, I'm just wearing stretched out bras (that are comfortable) and waiting to get a couple nursing ones.

I have an ex whose hair is very curly when he lets it grow out. As someone above mentioned, like curly Sue curls. Apparently, when he was young, his parents just let his hair grow out to around his shoulders. One day, when the ex was out with his grandfather, someone complimented him on his beautiful granddaughter. Grandpa took ex home, and immediately proclaimed no one was going to call his grandson a girl, and took him to get a haircut, haha.
FWIW, DS' first haircut was a bit sad for me, because he was born with so.much.hair, and he needed one by 6 months. I usually just do it myself at home, but for some reason, my parents and in-laws are so totally against him having haircuts, it's like a battle every time it happens. Not that they get a choice in the matter, but it's like they want him to stay young, with long crazy baby hair, forever.
