What bottles are you going with? For my DD we used Dr. Brown's which I have a love/hate relationship with. I love the bottle but it has too many parts to clean. I'll be much busier this time around and would like something with less parts.
Great question, I don't think we have fully delved into this. We're going with glass bottles but being a FTM got a few different kinds to see which we (and baby) like best before buying more. We have Evenflo, Dr Brown, Born Free and comotomo because I love the silicone.
Honestly, I just used the Parent's Choice ones from Walmart for DD and will again for this baby. Without colic/reflux/etc I see no reason why I need to purchase fancy bottles.
Our fella will have a cleft lip and possibly palate so we have to use either a Habermann Specialty Feeder or Comotomo silicone. They have Habermans at the hospital, and we registered for Comotomo so we'll see! (FTM)
I have the following to try: 2 Como Tomo (hoping thesecwork as they're my fave) 2 Joovy Boob 1 Mam anti colick Several avent (the ones they always give out) then I was considering Dr Browns
@nda_roxybabe we registered for Comotomo ages ago because a STM friend of mine couldn't recommend them enough! I only found out after that they are also great for cleft babies

They were a registry gift for me I keep forgetting your little guy will have a cleft, I'm so glad they're recommended for that.
@nda_roxybabe apparently it's good because you can squeeze the milk for them if they can't get suction due to the cleft. They can never know until he's born because each cleft is so different in shape/size/location. Some babies with cleft palates can still breastfeed like champs but many have to be exclusively bottle fed because they can't get suction. We will just have to wait & see! We already got them as a gift when I found out they were one of the top choices for cleft feeding so I'm happy about that
Were using Avent natural (not the glass ones though). Little man took to them well. I can't recall what we used on with our older kiddos. they seemed to be the cheapest that was "comparable" to the breast. that was my selling point as I'm cheap and had been hoping to breastfeed.
I bought the Avent Naturals, since those worked so well for DS2. However, DD did not do very well with them. We switched her to Tommee Tippee closer to nature and it has been such an improvement.
With DD we used the advent natualas and they did not work well for her. Even the slowest flow was too fast and would gag her.
This time we sre using the medela which he seems to be taking great. Plus it makes it easy to go from the pump to bottle without having to dirty up so Many pieces.
I bought the tommee tippee closer to nature ones as well, they worked well for DS and are working well for my niece at the moment, plus I bought the steriliser and it came with a heap of bottles so we'll stick with them unless they really don't work

We used Dr Browns with DD and it seemed to help with her reflux. We'll buy new nipples and keep the same bottles even though it's a PIA to wash the parts.

I used avent naturals last time and kept all the bottles so that is what this kid is getting. I only have the little 5 oz ones so my boobs better cooperate.
We have tommy tippee closer to nature as well. My cousins wife is a lactation consultant at WIC and had her first child last July and she recommended them. So I just went with that. We'll adjust if we need to but that's our starter at least.

We used Playtex Ventaire the first time around. Our son took to them no problem, but I was annoyed with the parts. The top and bottom both had to be screwed on, and there were so many MOTNs when they leaked everywhere because we didn't do it quite right. A friend gave us some Dr. Browns to try, and I bought a small pack of Tommee Tippees (the Ultras, I think?).
We used avent with DD and they worked so we're giving them a try again with this LO. I know its been brought up before but don't forget to sterilize them and to make sure the nipples are new! I have a large ziplock bag with everything waiting to get sterilized here.
I have Como Tomo from my previous DS that I can use. I also bought a set of the Life factory glass bottles for this LO to try out! I liked the Como Tomo however, tape doesn't stick well to the silicon so it made labeling for daycare a pain. I use the inchbug labels for DS now on sippy cups which I love. The silicon labels will fit perfectly around the life factory bottles so hopefully they will work!
Used Dr Brown for DS based on the recommendation of everyone around me and they worked great so even though they are a pain to wash I will keep using them. May get more and actually use the dishwasher this time for everything but the nipples and vent.
When I asked friends and family which they prefer it was always either Dr. Browns or Tommee Tippee so we got a few of each of those (registry and given) so I'm hoping one or both work for this one.
I'm going with Dr. Brown's. I used to babysit a lot of babies who used them. One baby girl spent many days, nights, and weekends with me, so I got used to cleaning the bottles. Yeah, they have a lot of pieces, but it didn't bother me. I've considered buying some Avent bottles too, but haven't yet.
I plan on using the dishwasher religiously. We have a new one and it has "fancy" settings. I figure I'll do special loads for just bottle stuff? IDK. I dont want to handwash crap though
We had trouble getting DS to take a bottle and tried a few different ones before settling on Tommee Tippee. I think he liked how big and wide the bottles were at the top since he was used to my giant boobs! We'll probably stick with the same ones as long as DS#2 likes them.
We have a dishwasher (and the Dr Browns baskets), but it is kinda a POS and yellowed all the nipples and vents when I tried it with DS. Plus I had exactly how many bottles we used in a day last time, so I just filled them with water after use and hand washed them each evening with my pumping parts.
I am one of the laziest people I know and I handwashed bottles last time. I only had 3-5 per day because daycare and if that's the route you're going with boob at home is really isn't bad at all.
When he was little I'd wash them when we got home as he chilled in a bouncer and later as he got older and more active I'd do it after bedtime. I washed and microwave sterilized everything including pump parts and it took maybe 10-15 minutes a night.
Plus with hand washing they go right to the drying rack but with the dishwasher some things stay wet even after the dry cycle and you have to pull them out to finish drying so handwashing is almost simpler.
We used Lifefactory and Comotomo bottles last time and just bought new nipples for this LO. I hand washed everything the first year and then MH started throwing them in the dishwasher. I was secretly happy he did and will just to that this time.
@sarah0985@Jens_Hoes same boat, no dishwasher and absolutely nowhere to put one. Also no microwave. We'll see how long before we cave on the microwave... :P
@sweaterboots: we had/have a small kitchen & no place for a built-in dishwasher, but a dw became a must-have and a time-saver (like at least a 1/2 hour each day, but usually more!). For us it came down to "time is money" and I wanted my hubbs to be with me in the living room and not stuck at the sink.
We bought something like this (with free shipping!):
It's kind of a pain at first to roll it over & hook it up to the faucet but is so rote by now that it's really nbd.
Search Amazon also for countertop dishwasher, and those can be had for the low low price of like $200. (Maybe it could be an early birthday/anniv./xmas present?)
