Recommendation for good shows/books?

I'm just sad because all my favorite shows are done with their seasons.. personally I love crazy shows like Shamelss, Westworld, and Big Little Lies. When it comes to books I feel like with my fatigue it will put me right to sleep but I'm open to some cool recommendations!

Re: Recommendation for good shows/books?

  • @eunhasong I also love Shameless! I actually thought the Big Little Lies book was a billion times better than the show. I would recommend alllll of her (Liane Moriarity) books. They are all plot-twists and keep me on my toes, I read them so fast. I'm so bad at TV shows. I liked Reign for a while because I enjoy historical fiction but it got a bit too magic-y for me.

  • I just finished watching Santa Clarita Diet. One word of advice, don't watch while eating. Gross! But it was kinda entertaining. I also started watching Greys on Netflix. Bad idea while pregnant as I cry in every episode.

I met met this author yesterday at a charity event and she signed her book for me. I thought it's a very interesting read for moms. It has great reviews.

  • I second @DuchessOfCambridge 's recommendation for the book Big Little Lies--I haven't seen the show but the book is one of my favorites. I've read almost every book by Liane Moriarty and they're all great. Another one of my favorite books is The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton. Another good one is When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi--it's a memoir about a doctor who gets cancer and it's so amazing (although as a pregnant lady I would probably be crying on every page if I read it now).

  • I just got a book in the mail from Amazon titled "A Gentleman in Moscow".  I haven't read it yet but it got great reviews and the description sounds very awesome.  I'm not sure if I am allowed to link items here but here goes:

  • @av2323 I've heard A Gentleman in Moscow is really good. I read Amor Towles' other book, Rules of Civility, and I liked it okay. I think it's good for a certain kind of person.

  • @av2323 I started reading A Gentleman in Moscow but had to stop because I ended up prioritizing a few pregnancy books and it expired from the library. I'm back on the waitlist, let me know how it is!

  • I'm currently reading The Good Girl by Mary Kubica...I saw it on sale at target and bought it on a whim and I'm totally sucked into it! For tv shows, I'm watching Sons of Anarchy, mostly because I think Jax is dreamy.
  • @cmessamore let me know what you end up thinking of The Good Girl. I read it last year and I had opinions about the ending.

  • I definitely will! I should be done in the next few days, if I can stay awake at night to actually read it! Lol
  • @eunhasong I think you mentioned that you're Korean? Do you like k-dramas?

  • Totally baby related I loved the business of being born. It's on Canadian Netflix I imagine it's on American as well
  • @cmessamore  We are also working our way through Sons of Anarchy.  We are about half way through season 2 currently.
  • @av2323 I'm not too far ahead of you! I think I'm just about to start season 3...sooo good!!
  • Thank you ladies for all the good recommendations!! Now I got tons to watch and read! I did hear the book is way better when it comes to Big Little Lies but let me just say Alexander Skarsgard in that show is omg sooo hot  :D Also that show got amazing sound tracks.

@lahansen yes I'm Korean, with Korean shows there are so many good ones come and go I don't even know where to start lol I thought about starting the Goblin but now I'm so used to short seasons from American shows. Lot of times I get tired of waitinf and end up looking up spoilers cuz I'm so impatient lol I do watch funny talk shows and reality shows sometimes. Any shows you like?
  • @emucoleman I blame you for my lack of productivity today! ;) So, I was lurking on this thread (great thread!) and I saw your recommendation for Pretty Big Lies and decided that I needed a little break. Bought the book this morning. I have done nothing but read this book. I can't even function at work because I can't put it down :)

Holy cow, I wish I had HBO!

  • So I guess I'm going to have to get that book.
  • @av2323 only do it if you are prepared to fully be unproductive.
