@ArtificialRed that is horrible.   The things people say when you are pregnant are ridiculous.   My sister in law declared after i was forced to announce I was pregnant ,"I know you are pregnant because you are already starting to show. "  ummm no.  Just 8 weeks and bloated but thanks for the unwanted comment.

@DuchessofCambridge honestly for those prices you could probably hire a live in nanny (at least where I'm from lol). Any my whole year of college at a state school as an out of state student was $14k (yay MA education funding)

@BayCamp there are some natural things that cats don't like but doesn't hurt them. Herbs that they don't like the smell of. I'm too lazy to google it further.

My TW is my Sheltie. There's a dog in our neighborhood that barks all day and she barks back at it from inside our apartment. I've tried teaching her shhhh and that helps but she'll just keep mumbling at it. I've resorted to telling her to shhh and if it doesn't work I bop her on the nose. We have neighbors and the walls are thin so I can't have a dog barking all day long. I can only imagine what it's like when I'm not home to correct her.

I'm also annoyed that I had to drive DH to work for 9:30 so I can take the car today for errands but all the places I need to go to on base don't open until 10 or 11 so I drove home and have to go back out again. I'll probably treat myself to some lunch because I'm getting into that constantly hungry phase.

@slaven a non-live in nanny in my city costs about $40k if you underpay them :astonished: That's annoying about your dog barking, hopefully she stops howling back!

A lot of people in high cost areas do nanny shares to make it more affordable.

@DuchessOfCambridge It's crazy how cost of living can be so different. We were looking at houses to buy at our next duty station and found a gorgeous remodeled Colonial, over 3,000 sqft, custom kitchen, restored hardwood floors, etc. for under $300k while in MA that could be double that or more. I tried convincing DH that we should buy but admittedly buying isn't the best option for us right now since we move so much and that would be a hard house to rent for profit or resell. Having a high end house is nice but not necessarily when you're not in a high end area.

@ArtificialRed wow- seriously? Who does she think she is? Do you work with her? I hate it when people make comments like that.
  • Options
@DuchessOfCambridge bummer! Yeah, you definitely don't want to lowball them. I hope you find a good solution!

So this is a rant and feel free to ignore but I'm annoyed. On my local spouse FB group, someone asked about shipping a bulldog to and from Korea. Someone comments that they flew Delta here with their lab in cargo and it was easy. I point out Delta doesn't allow snub nosed breeds. She replies back that they tried to make her lab fly cargo but they had a military clause (really just adjusts the fees for military families) but that there were some breed restrictions. I say "That's great that you were able to take advantage of their military clause and have cheaper rates but their regulations are about the safety of snub nosed breeds. Some airlines just aren't equipped to safety transport them." Her response: Well we flew Delta with our lab just fine. I said that there were breed restrictions. I was just trying to help someone that may read this and have a different dog. Have a nice day"

The "Have a nice day" bit is what annoys me the most, it's so rude (in that context). She and I were literally saying the same thing, that there are breed restrictions. Like yes, obviously some dogs are easier to fly with than others but the OP was talking about her bulldog.  Someone my husband works with went to bring their bulldog to Korea and it died in flight.

So this random lady on FB is a TW even though I'm probably just being feisty and hormonal. I was a grown up though and didn't respond back.

@DuchessOfCambridge $2500/mo is nuts!! That said, I was paying $1100/mo last summer when DD was going to daycare full time. Luckily I was getting a boatload of overtime so I didn't feel it so much. I'm now paying less per month for after school care than I was per week at that other facility.
@ArtificialRed That lady sounds like a real ticket! I don't understand what it is about pregnancy makes people feel like any part of it that we don't share is any of their business. One of my ex's uncles actually had the audacity to ask us WHERE DD was concieved when we anounced the pregnancy. We had started a business and moved in with his dad for a few months to save money when we fell pregnant. Apparently ex's uncle thought it was still 1950 and needed details for the small town scandal he was about to expose.
My TW is allergy season. My sinuses have been bothering me all week, and almost nothing helps. A warm rice pack on my face helps me fall asleep at night, but my nasal passages are either dry and irritated, or I'm so congested I can barley breathe. Also a twatwaffle, my boobs. They are huge and obnoxious, and never comfortable. I slept without a sport bra on last night and it was a mistake!

I'm relieved to see the several replies about it not being a cool comment to make, because I was half-worried I'm just being a sensitive ninny about it. I'm sure I wouldn't have been so irritated by it if she hadn't been the same one to ask if we were ttc. She's a fellow parent at DS's school and "friend."

@slaven arguments where both people are essentially saying the same thing but someone you can't get on the same page are so frustrating. And ugh, those poor inbred dogs. I totally see the appeal in how cute they are, but those health problems are terrifying.

My TW is my bloat! I seriously look like I'm 4-5 months along, not almost 9 weeks. My DH's response to my whining was "Gee, it's like there's another HUMAN in there!" I know he was trying to help, but seriously dude?

@ArtificialRed  I really hate telling people I'm pregnant, mainly because of the barrage of questions people feel compelled to ask. When are you due? What are you having? Are you going to have more after this one? And on and on and on. I'm a very private person and these questions are all a little too much for me when I feel like crap and am moody.

Oops! Looks like I had created a duplicate TW thread. Gonna put this here and change that one to a childcare thread since it came up here.

My coworker (who knows I'm pregnant, but hasn't seen me in 10 days since break started) looked at me, eyes all bugged out, and asked, "So is this all out in the open now since it's pretty obvious?" To which I replied, "Are you kidding me? I'm not even 10 weeks yet!" (Her eyes got bigger.) I'm not exactly hiding it, but I work with kids and I am definitely not wanting word to get out for a while longer. She was shocked when I told her earlier in the pregnancy because she handled my plans when I was out for MC, so I didn't expect that.

Poor DH got his hair cut today for his best friend's Friday destination wedding and the lady botched it. I mean, he didn't exactly pay big bucks, but she's a TW for not listening to what he wanted.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*

@DuchessOfCambridge ...... all those prices seem cheap for day care...... compared to here. My local is $110 per day per child. With 3 little ones, there's a reason i dont work.... cant afford day care. But plenty of people pay it..... their waiting list is at least 6 months long.

@DuchessOfCambridge I'm shocked by the daycare prices near you!!! I pay $46 a day for my 8 month old! So under a $1000 a month!

@DuchessOfCambridge it sounds like we live in the same area ! I've tried every permutation. The one thing I tell myself, it's short term if you think about it until they go to school (that is if you aren't doing private, which is another conversation)

heres what worked for us: daycare 3 days a week and family 2 days (we still pay them). Now we are getting an au pair. We will scale back on daycare. It still sucks bc daycare for those 3 days is about 2k / month plus au pair 1500/ month but we need the coverage as I have a "chasing the sun" kind of job. If you need less hours, the au pair can be the answer to your prayers! 45 hrs per week for 1500/month is a bargain around here.

My TW is my team. This may be an uo but I feel like I have the most entitled group of direct reports (millennials). We have to have conversations about their career path daily. We talk about how much money they want to make daily. I have to sell every assignment to them. When I was at that stage in my career I was thankful for a job, not making my boss sell doing my job to me. I want to fire them all and start fresh.

    End rant.

@ArtificialRed Didn't you know you can totally comment OUT LOUD on a woman's body once she's pregnant? Ugh. Sorry. People just need to say "hi" and move on with their lives.
