GTKY: Dream Job

I've been watching a lot of Project Runway lately. Even though I never wanted to be a fashion designer, I did do a few years of art school, and I used to have dreams of being an interior designer or an art teacher, and watching a creative show makes me miss it a bit. 

So, if you could have any job in the world, what would it be? Even if you have your dream job, was there anything else you considered that you occasionally get an itch for?

I've always wanted a bakery! I love baking and trying out new things. I love love love to make pretty food! I've just always dreamed of having my own bakery. And seriously.. it needs to be a bakery and wine bar DH and I actually started planning it before I got pregnant with DS, and I think we would like to resume when our kids are a little bigger. Oo but today I'm making bread with DS!! It ended up with lots of flour everywhere, but I would love for him to share in my love of baking, so I let him join in anytime he wants!

@beccam1230 That is too cute! And it makes me even more excited to have a little man to do fun things with.

Like I said, above, I sometimes miss art. I have a friend who is now an art teacher, and her pictures always make me think about what could have been! I also seriously considered just being an elementary school teacher. It ended up being a good thing that I didn't go that route- my elementary ed. degree would have been useless here in California, and I would have spent most of the last 7 years just trying to get my own classroom- but I still feel a pang when my teacher friends talk about their jobs. I think I just really miss working with kids!

Does having a sugar daddy to supplement my hobbies count as a dream job? Jk I always wanted to be in outdoor education/interpretive park ranger AND publish my own cook book.

@mrs_tacos he's such a fun little guy.. I originally thought I might be a little sad about not ever having a girl to do things like that with. I quickly realized that's silly, little boys love to do stuff like that just as much 

It sounds like you're so passionate about art and especially working with kids. What's so cool is being able to put it all into doing things with your child! Of course you can always find a way to work with a lot of kids without being a teacher too, like art classes/lessons... I used to take them when I was little, and I loved doing it! You really sound like you would be a wonderful teacher, and I have a feeling that you'll be able to do what you're so passionate about somewhere down the line

I've mentioned this before. I used to want to be a NY Times bestselling novelist. That dream just sort of changed in grad school when I realized that once it became work, writing wouldn't be nearly as fun. Honestly, I love being a lawyer. Absolutely no regrets.

@beccam1230 Thank you! I write middle grade fiction now, and am pursuing getting published. As much as I love working with kids, I don't regret the path I'm on now. And who knows what the future will hold? Maybe someday I'll be able to do both. I think it's fantastic that your DH is not only supportive of your dream, but has helped you pursue it!

I would run a doggie daycare, kennel, and bakery (with pet treats). I already have the location picked out for when I win the lottery. It's an old abandoned elementary school with the perfect set-up.

Or, I would want to work at Disney in the parks somewhere (other than janitorial duties).

@dogdisnylovr One of my college friends was an actor inside the park for several years, and another tours with Disney on Ice as their lighting designer. Both jobs sound so fun!

I would really like to win the lottery and buy a huge piece of land so I can have a cat sanctuary. I would love to be the vet at my cat sanctuary but truthfully, I'm not sure I would be able to handle that aspect of it. I would like to just take in all the strays I can, get them spayed and neutered and let them live their best life while snuggling their faces off.

I would love to own a bakery! I love baking and have thought about starting a side business a couple of times.

Also I'm a pretty great detective. So being a private investigator also might be my calling. No one can hide anything from me. Last year I got a really shady guy fired from my job because he was scamming the company and our CEO is an idiot and needed a mountain of evidence before he finally saw what was happening.

@LosAngelesMama I sniff out dirt on people for fun sometimes. DH calls it my illness. Glad I'm not the only one!

@mrs_tacos people always say I'm slightly crazy or ask how I find these things out. And I'm like with a little time and a computer. It's really not that hard. lol

Just like @bridge-and-wall , I used to want to be a best-selling author. But throughout college, I realized that I do not write well under stress. Sometimes it takes years for an idea to fully form in my head before I can write it all down. Also, all the work just stole the joy I used to have in writing. I really haven't written anything in several months, but I'd like to get back into it.
I cannot picture myself at another job. I love proofreading. At times, yes, I get bored or frustrated, but I discovered a passion for it while I was doing an internship at a magazine. My happiest day was not interviewing people or writing pieces, but the day we got to proof the entire magazine before sending it to print. That was when I decided I wanted to be a proofreader.

I have always wanted to be a writer. I was THIS close to majoring in English, got scared about job security, and backed out. 

I do love teaching tiny people, though.

I love coaching cheerleading, and I have missed it terribly these last couple of year.  My dream job consists of coaching at a high school with a supportive and reasonable administration and the ability to hold practices after my H gets home from work (or that he could WFH on the days I coached).  You have no idea how hard that is to find, even without the evening practices.

Alternatively, I have looked in to being a sports psychologist.  I've taken a couple classes in it and read some books on the topic and it sounds perfect.  Being a sports psychologist for an MLB team would be amazing.

I have a great career in the military, but if I could do it all over again (with the right opportunities and knowledge planted into my head), would love to try farming. Not that I know anything about it or have any experience. But I like working hard physically, love the outdoors, I'm good with manual stuff and like math and planning (which I suppose would come in handy for accounts/admin). And the attraction of being self-sufficient. All vague, romantic notions, I know, especially since I HATED biology in high school, and I know absolutely nothing about the modern farming industry (which is probably very different from the family farm I have in mind.  Nice to dream though

I have always wanted to have my own pet friendly bakery. Have a little pup park by the patio and dog friendly treats...

Unfortunately our area is not so dog friendly. I don't think a cafe where you could enjoy a coffee and fresh baked goodies with your pet would be very successful here.

I've been debating going back to school to get my degree in atmospheric sciences. I have zero desire to be on TV, but I'd love to work at a weather station. Currently, I am a Skywarn Spotter volunteer for our region and just got my HAM radio license to be a part of emergency weather nets to communicate from the field to the weather station. Maybe one day I'll make it a paying gig.

@JNR6510 that sounds like an awesome idea!! If I had one of those here, I would definitely bring my dog. There's a really cute little down town the road from me called Manitou Springs.. it's the cutest little hippie town but they LOVE dogs! There's a really cool shopping strip with tons of little shops and they all have treats for dogs and water bowls outside. Move here and start your shop

@beccam1230 I love that town! We visited a few years back in vacation! I loved how dog friendly the whole town seemed to be. I think just about every shop we visited had water bowls out for the pups.

I would love to work in crime scene investigation. I know it's a little morbid, but I love putting puzzles together and figuring out clues. I love the Las Vegas CSI tv show..

Otherwise, definitely something with Disney

I've always wanted to be a mom. I used to get into so much trouble for saying that when I was little. My dad would say "You can be so much more!" Being a mom is my dream job, it's never dull especially with my crew

If I had to work outside of my home, I'd want to be a midwife.

I would love to be a travel photographer. Just documenting different destinations and their lifestyle and culture(s). I have my diploma in travel and tourism which was an amazing dream come true career wise for me. But it doesn't satisfy my need to experience and capture.

Ooooh me, too! I love the First 48 and Snapped. And I used to love Forensic files when that came on. Im not so sure about getting up in the middle of the night though when all the crimes seem to happen! 
Yes im up at 4:30am right now, but DH just left for work so hopefully I'll go back to sleep

This I seriously would be happy being a stay at home mom. I also love cooking so having the time (and money?!) to plan fun meals and experiment would be fun. I love my job now, but if I could do anything it would for sure be stay at home mom. Buuut since we aren't winning the lottery anytime soon...

My dream job right now? Being a full time mom. I wish I had gone into a different career path, but too late now. I've always thought I'd be a great real

My husband wants to be a farmer! He has no experience but talks about "living off the land" all the time. We are starting a small garden in our backyard this weekend.

I would either like to work at a successful bookstore or at a library to be around books all the time. Neither pay as well as teaching... With that said, I love being a teacher and the only thing I'd change is that in my ideal world I would get to teach in a school that didn't have grades.

There is a fabulous bookstore where I live and bookclubs come from all over the world to visit it! They are definitely few and far between now.

I don't know if it's because I'm a dreamer or if it's the ADHD, but I have many dream jobs. Obstetrics, reconstructive surgeon, travel show host, farmer, archaeologist.
