I come from a traditional Hispanic family and for some reason... no one bakes. I love certain things we can make but it's rare to actually bake in my household!
cooking, baking is too exact i like to wing it/make due with whatever i have.
Exactly this. I've heard it said that cooking is an art and baking is a science.

I heart theSkimm I heart YNAB --------- “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." - Albus Dumbledore
I will bake stuff with more enthusiasm than cooking, plus my baked goods tend to turn out way better than anything I cook. But I'm just lazy and don't like actually doing any of it. The clean up bugs me.
Baking! I have to cook because DH can't even boil water and it makes me resent it. Baking is on MY terms and also involves chocolate 99.9% of the time. Win-win.
Baking just seems so much more finicky. Oh, I have to sift this flour how many times first? And then stir it up but not too much or it will be dry. And make sure you know the EXACT temperature your oven is cooking at or things will all be ruined.
Not my thing.

Both, but baking has my heart. I can cook if I can follow a recipe but I am so bad at just winging it. DH is the better cook in our household by a landslide.
Call me Choumicha (moroccan version of Martha) lol. I love both. But im definitely better at cooking than baking.... My MIL who lives a few streets away has been teaching me cause I love it, but just cant wing it! (sucks for my parents, cause they're both pastry chefs)
Confession: I bake all the time. I like to think I'm good at it. But I've never sifted flour. I don't even know what it entails. I just mix and things seem to work out lol
Baking! I used to bake a lot before our son came along. I loved baking and decorating cupcakes! It's hard with a 3 yo now bc it's so time consuming. Now I resort to quick box mixes...less satisfying.
I really wish I had a desire to cook or bake, I pretty much hate doing both. Plus finding recipes and getting the right stuff at the store ugh... I can't.
it is weird bc i am so structured as a person in general lyfe. but then baking i tense up and i am like THIS IS TOO MUCH! also as a parent i am very hands off, which people who know me are shocked about that. WHY AM I SO CRAZY IN THE HEAD?! ::books therapy appointment:: #deepmeaningsofbaking
This question seems so strange to me. I've never heard it posed as 2 different things? To me, baking is a form of cooking. Just like frying, grilling, etc. But I'm also no culinary expert either. I rely heavily on teachings from my Nana and The Pioneer Woman!
Definitely not the same. I love to cook, and if you eyeball a few ingredients or add some random ish (I like to do that) then even better. No eyeballing in baking! Although I will bake sometimes at night or if I'm super stressed. Something about measuring flour and sugar relaxes me.
I say baking is my stronger skill. Cooking is for DH. Though I like to think I'm a decent cook the hubby really can't bake which angers him! He just doesn't like to follow directons. It's like a war zone If we are both in the kitchen at the same time.
Definitely baking — I think I'm too much of a perfectionist to be good at improvising while cooking, haha. I'm making lemon bars to bring to Easter this weekend and I'm so excited!
I love both, but baking is probably my favorite. I took some cake decorating classes a few years ago and on my own really explored baking and have found some awesome recipes that have become staples. My family thinks it's funny that I enjoy baking, because it's such a science. I grew up in cajun country and have learned mostly how to cook from my mother and grandmother. Cajuns just throw things together and rarely measure stuff...which is the complete opposite of baking. '
Either way, I am looking forward to making awesome birthday cakes for my kid!
@sjohns08 right?! I'm about to rummage through my cabinets to see if there's any chance we have all the ingredients to make some...or at least one of those brownies in a mug.
@purplestarz@sjohns08 brownies are my favorite. And whenever I have a brownie craving, it always hits at night when I'm too lazy to actually go buy ingredients, so like @purplestarz said I usually find myself googling things like, "how to make dessert with cocoa powder and no eggs"
I really don't like doing either. Half the time whatever I'm trying to make doesn't come out quite right. The other half of the time it comes out fine, but I'm grumpy because H pushed me to try it and ended up being right about it turning out fine.
If I had to choose, I'd choose baking. I'm better at following recipes than I am at winging it, and plus I like baked goods a lot.
Cooking. My mom does really good baked goods and I inherited none of that talent...I can mess up box brownies (which is why I'm glad brownie batter and cookie dough are acceptable treats
I voted SS because before I had DD, I used to love cooking and baking. Now, I cook because we have to eat obviously, but it stresses me out. I never know what to make that's quick and I have to start dinner around 6:30pm when I get home from work. I still like baking and cooking, it's just hard working full time, being pregnant and chasing after a toddler. Plus i can't have gluten so it makes dinner even more difficult. And baking is pretty much a no go anymore because gluten free baking IS A PAIN IN THE ASS!!!! Ugh..
ETA I do think I'm a better chef than baker. I can "invent" my own recipe or stray away from a recipe and improvise and it always turns out good. Baking there is none of that. That recipe becomes a scientific formula that has to be followed exactly or it all falls apart!
cooking, baking is too exact i like to wing it/make due with whatever i have.
DH is this exact way! I bake, he cooks and it just works. I'm too anal to cook like he does. Im like WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY "A PINCH"?! WHERES THE RECIPE?!
I love baking! I tend to bake every other day in the summer when school is out and deliver it the kids daycare ladies. They feel neglected doing the school year because I just can't.
Cooking I do daily because I have to feed the kids...
I don't mind both but I love baking. I'm really good at cookies and love adjusting recipes enough to make things turn out perfect. We just moved into a house with a gas oven for the first time in my life and that has taken some getting used to but now things turn out even better- I just had to figure out adjustments on time. My girls love to help too which is lots of fun
The best Sunday's for me are days that we go to early church and I come home and cook and bake all day long. I used to have a glass/bottle of wine while I cooked but now I just stick to sweet tea.
Casseroles, brownies, cookies, anything. I try my random Pinterest recipes on Sunday's, I cook things that take a long time on Sunday's (since I don't have as much time during the week). If I spend all day in the kitchen, I am one happy girl.
Now I just need someone who will clean up all the dishes for me.

I'm definitely more of a baker, but like @CurlyQ284 since having DS I rarely have a chance to do it and usually opt for the box mixes now. My H on the other hand loves to cook and loves changing things up. If I ever do cook (and by that I usually mean throwing things in a slow cooker) he's telling me to add/change ingredients and I'm like "noooooo, there's a recipe for a reason!" Also, regular cooking just stresses me out, I never know what to make.
@MCraig1484 I don't know how old your DS is, but my 3 year old is to the point now where she can help me bake and loves to help. I give her little jobs like picking out the "perfect" egg and she gets her own bowl/spoon to stir. That's one way I get so much cooking/baking done and I get to spend fun time with her
