I'm home alone and bored. I already did dishes and got everything prepped breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the firehouse crew that is coming over to help DH finish up with a couple remodeling projects in the nursery tomorrow morning.
My needy Great Dane was evil this morning and demanded that I get up and go outside with her at 6am. So now I have run out of my normal weekend chores too early.
@JNR6510 Pretty much the same here, DH is on nights so he's sleeping all day and my toddler also woke me up at 6 this morning and I've already cleaned up. Blah.
@beccam1230 that's why I used it lol I don't have a life so DS and I stay home pretty much all day every day. Cold fried chicken sounds amazing though! I saw a commercial for TGI Friday's and now I want fried pickles
@wyomama0427 haha I actually cooked for the first time in months the other day...so I made a ton of fried chicken so I would have leftovers!! And fried pickles sound so good right now!!
We went to Lowes with both cars to pick up our kitchen cabinets and some plants. We're slowly remodeling our kitchen. DH has a sedan and i have a hatchback. And a toddler in a car seat. We were out in the parking lot trying to figure how to get it all in and this super nice couple with a couple of kids in a truck stopped and asked if we would just like them to take it all to our house! All because DH had a Giants shirt on and they were from NY (or so he said, they were so nice I'm sure they were just saying that.) Anyways, faith restored! Now, if someone would offer to install them.
@cchenal07 how old is your DS? I don't know what to get mine for Easter except a stuffed bunny or a lamb and maybe some other little toys or something, he's 14 months so candy is out. We may have a little egg hunt in the yard with the eggs out in the open so he can find them easy lol
@beccam1230 I wish I could do stuff like that, DH doesnt like it. He will eat it, but he doesn't like fried chicken or like chicken fried steak or fried breaded pork chips or anything like that. The closest I can get that he likes and asks for is ritz chicken!
@wyomama0427. He is 7 so right now it is Pokemon cards and Skylanders so pretty easy. I am also doing swimming trunks and sunglasses for the summer. However he has never been a candy kid. When he was younger we did little boxes of goldfish or the little puffs containers. I think around that age we did some of the little tikes little wheelers cars ( I think thats what it is) and toys for outside like bubbles and a ball. We also add a book every year. Hope that helps!
@wyomama0427 that almost brings a tear to my eye!! I love fried chicken.. oo and chicken fried steak DH actually hasn't had any leftover chicken, so that's weird. But whatever, more for me!! Ritz chicken also sounds good.. haha I'm hungry today
@cats*in*space Yay!!! You better come tell us immediately!!!!!
@iheartichi Omgsh how sweet of those people! I love nice people.
I was supposed to work today but got pushed back.. then got called in an hour and a half later.. then cancelled again. I haven't slept though so tired! And I have to use PTO which takes away from maternity leave. But at least I got to sleep in with DH!

I don't know about the non pathetic people, but I'm reading and eating fruit snacks.
@beccam1230 I am fully aware that this is a ridiculous question, but how do you actually fry chicken? (Hides head in shame.) I know, I know... I should know that, but we never had it growing up and I just have no clue!
I feel like the laziest person ever today. I look at Facebook and all my friends are out doing fun things.. it's so nice outside here too, I just can't make myself get up and do anything!
@HollyGolightly09 The easiest way in my opinion is cornflake chicken. You need 2 lbs of chicken thighs or breasts cut into strips, 2 cups of cornflakes, 2 eggs, and a cup of flour. The seasoning is up to your preference. We like to use salt, pepper, garlic powder, and chipotle powder to give it a little bit of spice.
For cooking oil, Crisco works amazing! You can use other oils, but Crisco doesn't burn as quickly / easily as others if you aren't used to making fried foods.
Step 1: Blend flour and seasonings together in one bowl
Step 2: In a small bowl beat the eggs (can also use buttermilk if you aren't an egg lover) and in a separate bowl crush the cornflakes. You make want to add a bit of your seasoning mixture to the cornflakes as well.
Step 3: Heat 1-1.5 cups of Crisco in a pan (cast iron is my preference) until it is hot.
Step 4: Batter your chicken strips and drop them into the hot oil. Start by tossing the strips in the flour mixture. (You can make this step easy / less mess by pouring the flour mixture and chicken strips into a large ziploc baggies and giving it a good shake.) Once the strips have gone through the flour, you will dip them in your egg wash and then roll them in the crushed cornflakes.
Step 5: Flip the chicken strips after they have a golden brown, crispy crust on the pan side down. Usually takes only a couple minutes each side.
And enjoy with whatever sauces or dips you like for fried chicken.
I'm finally here! I am exhausted from yeaterday- went to the Padres opening day, and then met friends for dinner. I also woke up nauseated around 4 am, and didn't fall back asleep until 5:30. So DH turned off my alarm and just let me sleep this morning. I just woke up at noon. It was glorious, but now I'm starving. I'm trying to convince DH to order in Eggs Benedict from down the street, and then I'll probably read for awhile.
Also, my all time favorite sandwich place has a restaurant in the ballpark here, and I got one yesterday. I just realized that I forgot to put the second halfback in the refrigerator, and I cried. I'm so upset! I haven't been super emotional about many things this pregnancy...except food. I've been really emotional about food, and I don't know if I even mind.
FFSC: I was so mad at the cheap bras I tried on at Target last week that I came home and got on eBay, determined to just buy my normal brand (~$40 new) in just the next size up. My boobs have only gotten a little bigger, but knowing they will change again, I don't want to pay retail price. I found a "like new" one and decided I could try it and just put it through a bleach load before wearing. Bleach cures everything.
It arrived today and is SO sketchy. The pictures were carefully taken to not show the missing stitching, the over stretched elastic sides... Ugh. I'm so skeeved out. That's what I get for trying to save money. Lesson learned.
Here and now craving fried chicken and pickles. But that will only happen if we go out. DH is allergic to poultry, I hate cooking/frying with oil, so pretty much not happening. DH and DS did a Starbucks run for breakfast this morning so I've been taking it easy. Which is nice given I woke up at 5:30 this morning. No major plans for the weekend. But we might take DS to see Moana at a $2 theater showing tomorrow (even though I JUST bought it and watched it with him two nights ago when DH was working late).
Congrats cats*in*space! Finding out is such an exciting moment!
So this happened for lunch. I was feeling lazy so it's cheese burgers and toasted coconut s'mores. It's so beautiful outside today. I figured lunch on the back porch went with the theme.
Re: Weekend Roll Call 4/8
Pretty much how my day is going.
ETA-- DD just fell asleep, so I am going to go to sleep too. Sorry I can't contribute more today. I just don't have it in me.
