2 yr old fighting sleep

hi! It's been a while since I posted on here but I am at a loss for what to do with my little guy. He's almost 2 1/2 and recently, he has been fighting sleep. Where he was going to bed at 6:30ish, he's now not falling asleep until 8:45! He lay said in his crib, some night super quiet and just hangs and other nights it crying and my husband and I are going up to soothe him as needed. We have moved bedtime back to closer to 7 but we don't want to go much past that just yet. Is this just the whole I want to hang out with mom and dad phase or is it time to go to the pediatrician???
