We say nugget which is our nickname for our dogs. I don't feel weird about it at all. I totally wanted to do one of those announcement pictures where the dogs are posed with a sign that says "big sister duty starting Nov. 2017" but my Maltese is a little shit and cannot learn the commands "sit" and "stay" to save her live. My Sheltie would be perfect though.
@slaven I have a maltese. ditto. At this point. I think he understands the commands (sit, stay, no bark, leave it) but chooses when to obey. It's like having a forever toddler with a streak of rebellious teenager.
@rms924 Yours is better than mine then. She knows sit, but only for a treat and then barely does it. She likes to stand up once you go to give her the treat. Other than that she knows nothing. I'm hoping once we move back to the States that a dog trainer can help a bit. She doesn't need to know much but I'd like the basic safety things like come and drop it.
I have mentally been calling this baby sweetpea. For our first son we called him baby2 (because of an inside joke) and our second son I called babylove but my husband and I referred to him as "the baby" in conversation.
@CrunchyMidwife I want to find out however DH doesn't. His parents didn't find out for any of their kids so it's a bit of tradition. Plus the way I see it is that it can be hard for the father/SO to be part of the pregnancy and if this helps him enjoy it and feel like he's part of this pregnancy then so be it (plus I really don't mind, I just wanted to know to buy clothes).
After we saw baby move on the ultrasound my DH has been calling it our little swimmer haha it's weird, but nice to see him bonding with the baby already

@slaven I hope your dog is more trainable than mine! My little guy is 9 years old. He is ridiculous. We've paid for dog trainers, a dog therapist (yes), calming holistic vitamins (or whatever it's called- my brain is mush), everything. We just basically had to accept him for who he is. One dog trainer told me that's also partly the breed- I've def had to be careful with my dog and my son because my dog can be unpredictable. It's prob my fault for babying him for so long, but now I just take precautions to make sure that everyone in the household (dog included) is happy and safe.
We've been calling it different things depending on my mood. But lately Stewie (Griffin) because I've been so sick I joke that it's trying to kill me. Most recently when I got sick while driving 80mph on the interstate and had to use an empty cup to get sick in. Definitely trying to kill me.
I don't have an English name but I call my DS 'Meethi Malai' which means sweet cream in Hindi. I'm calling the baby 'chuttu malai' which means tiny cream. lol I know sounds weird but in my culture kids love to lick cream off the milk which makes it's a cute so it's hard to get it unless you speak the language.
@ShePersisted that is too cute! We are calling ours lil samosa right now. I'm Indian and DH is Jewish and we are looking for a cute hybrid name but like samosa in the meantime. My friend who is Mexican and married a Korean calls their baby kimchi taco! I love the food names lol.
We refer to him/her as "B" or 'baby B'. The ovia app asked me to give it a nickname and "b" was just the first thing I came up with because B is for baby and it just stuck. One of the updates I got from the app said B was the size of an apple seed, so I've also referred to baby as Jonny apple seed a few times.
Mostly "it" "they" "them" Noone knows yet (9w+4) so we tend to not talk about it unless we are like in bed or something in which case we don't really name it since we both know what we are talking about . Say things like ' we are x big this week and growing yz' We do have kind of loose cute names or personal for each other being the fox and the bear So hubby has more recently started referring to it as baby bear or kit on occasion .
And sometimes sproutling which is the children line of our sustainable eco chic fashion label
Since we're on this topic, is anybody NOT able to use the term "baby" at all yet, like in conversation? I tried, I just couldn't do it. Even after I saw the ultrasound and the heartbeat. I was totally blown away by it and I'm obsessed with looking at the pictures, but still: nope, cannot baby. It's like a weird mental block.
I am the exact same way! Obviously, I'm happy, excited, etc. but I just have a complete mental block right now with that word.
I've been calling it Baby S......(our last name), It, She (I swear I'm having a girl but I'm only 7w so no way of knowing), DH has been calling it The Little Fishy since the u/s
We've been calling it "tadpole" since it kinda looked like one earlier and we collect Muppet memorabilia and I've been working on some vintage Muppet Babies cross stitches for the nursery nook in our room.
Also using the word "baby" before getting confirmation everything is okay is freaking me out (glad I'm not the only one!).
Aw I love reading all these cute nicknames! Im pretty much just calling it 'baby'... DH calls baby 'Rufus 2' because his cat is Rufus! Ahaha he's gonna be excluded from naming rights if he keeps this up
After that last ultrasound "Wiggle Worm" is coming out a lot!

@zigzag8412 Same here -- after our u/s where the baby was wiggling so much, we started calling it "the wiggler" or "the professional wiggler." So funny.

I guess we just say "the baby." We were cuter with DD. I think it will feel more real after the u/s in a couple of weeks.

DD (almost 2 years) saw the US picture on my phone and declared "That's a rock! Don't eat it!" Killed me, but rock isn't cute enough to stick!
