When does/did baby turn six months? Today is my Johnny Boy's six month birthday!
Any milestones hit? He is mobile- in the sense that he literally rolls wherever he wants to go, and he also scoots himself around, which is quite the sight to behold... I'll try to get a picture of the dingaling doing it haha
Tell us about sleep, nighttime and naps- Sleep and Naps have been great for the most part, but last night was a complete disaster due to his allergies.
Weight and length? 16lb 4.5oz, and 27" long.
How are YOU feeling? So exhausted from last night's bedtime train wreck.
Questions or concerns? My poor little feller had a bronchial infection, so he was just given a prescription for Albuterol and an antibiotic. He's a thumb sucker, and since he can't breathe through his nose right now, he can't suck his thumb, and since he isn't sucking his thumb, he isn't self-soothing, which means sleep doesn't come easily lately... I hope he gets better soon. I can't stand my little love being unwell, and so miserable when he is so exhausted but can't sleep =(
Tell us about sleep, nighttime and naps-Baby girl has terrible FOMO, hah. Sleeps well at night from 8/9-7 ish, nurses 2-4 times throughout the night but mostly while still sleeping
Weight and length? Still barely over 11 lbs
How are YOU feeling? As her open heart surgery approaches I feel like I have a mix of relief and terror. The closer it gets I have a feeling terror will overtake. We were in the hospital a couple weeks ago for 5 times because she got pneumonia and her chest xray showed how enlarged her heart is and it just breaks me. She's also most likely in early stage heart failure, her kidneys and liver are enlarged. Roughly 3 weeks til surgery.
@AllyTheKid I hope your little guy feels better soon so you can both get some rest!!
@kmolleltz My heart goes out to you!! You are so strong to be dealing with this. I am praying the surgery goes well, and your precious one has a quick recovery.
@kmolleltz I second what @Pupatella said, I think about you and Abigail often. You're in my prayers and I'm wishing the absolute best, easy, smooth surgery and recovery ♡
@kmolleltz thinking of you and little Abigail. She's going to do great, and you'll be right there to give her love and snuggles after surgery. I'm wishing you both all the best.
@allythekid@pupatella@Kgridley27 <3333 thank you ladies. I don't think there is such thing as "too much" prayers and positive thoughts so we'll take all we can get!
@deecee9580 I know it's easier said than done but I hope you can ease back from worrying all the time. That won't be good for your own health and sanity in the long run! Have you spoken to your pedi about your concerns? Mine gave me parameters of 2.5ml for babies over 12 lbs., repeat as needed. If you don't feel comfortable dosing your LO perhaps the doc could give you other suggestions. If it's just gum discomfort you're worried about, have you tried letting baby suck on a cold, wet washcloth or cold berries/melon (if LO has tried those foods already)?
thank you so much for responding. I actually just hung up with her doc and she told me everything happening is normal and gave me her take on tylenol and how much etc. I feel a lot better. I'm going to try the wet wash cloth tonight.. when I give her the cold teether she uses it for a minute and then goes back to putting her hands in her mouth.
@deecee9580 anytime. I'm glad you got the answers you were looking for.
Anecdote: my LO does not care for the plastic/rubbery teethers you're supposed to put in the fridge or freezer. We have a bunch of tri-fold cloth diapers we used for burp cloths and his favorite thing to do is to bite down on a finger wrapped in the edge of the cloth. You could use a normal burp cloth too, but the thicker/rougher the better, IMO. An added bonus is it collects his drool as he chomps away. Worth a shot, maybe.
My dude LOVES chewing and sucking on damp washcloths, that's the only thing that kept him from fussing like crazy while we were at my school yesterday to enroll in summer classes. I second the added bonus of drool catching too!
When does/did baby turn six months? Tomorrow, April 20
Any milestones hit? We're rollin', rollin', rollin', which makes doing PT every night wayyy more difficult. He's a really good sitter until suddenly he's not...then, timber.
Tell us about sleep, nighttime and naps- STTN and about 3 naps per day ranging anywhere from 20 mins to 2 hours depending on his own whims and how many exciting things he may be missing out on if he is sleeping.
Weight and length? Almost 17#, about 26"
How are YOU feeling? Pretty good. I still feel like there aren't enough hours in the day, but if I take a step back and really look at my life, we have it really good. I really love being a mom which isn't something I always pictured for myself.
Questions or concerns?
I don't know if he's sick or teething or has allergies or what. Could be I just have no idea what I'm doing.
Any milestones hit? Rolling a lot, pushing up on both arms and doing 360 degree "turtle spins", sitting up on her own, eating solids and loving them
Tell us about sleep, nighttime and naps- STTN mostly with occasional wake up and soothe me moments (sleeps from 9pm to 7ish) two naps usually 30 mins to an hour
Weight and length? 14.19 lbs. 24.75 inches- a small but mighty little girl
How are YOU feeling? Still trying to find balance. It's tough and every day I struggle going to work and leaving my baby. My house needs cleaning, bills need to be paid, groceries bought, food cooked and so on. I only have small windows of time to get things done and TBH sometimes I just lay down, relax or watch tv when I should he doing other things. I'm also a control freak and should try to have H help more but I feel like I need to do everything myself. Just my type A personality type I guess. I sure do love being a mom though and wouldn't trade it for the world. Very blessed with a healthy baby thank the Lord. Questions or concerns?
None currently that I didn't ask the pedi this week
Any milestones hit? Sitting up unassisted, rolling both ways, dragging her body towards things she wants, spinning around, eating solids, standing while supported. Tell us about sleep, nighttime and naps- We are on the struggle bus with this one. I told S this morning that I can't wait to sleep train her next month lol. Naps are extending in length so that is a good thing.
Weight and length? 14.10 lbs 25 1/2 in
How are YOU feeling? Tired. Even when I do try to take a nap when she's napping I just can't. I'm guessing I anticipate her waking up.
Questions or concerns?
I took S in the pool for the first time today. She loved it! Should've asked the pedi but should I give her a bath right after? Or will it be ok to rinse her off and then do bath time at the regular time? Today I did the latter.
I'm always the last one to hit this milestone, but I'll share anyway.
When does/did baby turn six months? Last week Wednesday, May 10th.
Any milestones hit? Milestones: Sitting on his own, rolling over, grabbing anything he can get his hands on, reaching for objects, passing objects from one hand to the other, putting objects in his mouth, saying “Mom” and “Dada”, babbling a ton more, recognizing his Mom and Dad, screaming to hear his own voice, standing with assistance, and kicking up a storm in the bathtub.
Tell us about sleep, nighttime and naps- Sleeping: Joseph’s nighttime sleep went downhill when daycare started. It’s gotten better overtime, but he still isn’t sleeping through the night anymore. Joseph now sleeps in a crib in his own room!! We have a video monitor, and a sound monitor set up so we can check in on him. We also keep a white noise machine on during the night. He will go to sleep sometime between 8pm and 9:30pm. It varies a bit every day, and we have been struggling to get him back into a schedule with a defined bed time. The good news is, no matter what time he goes to sleep, he usually wakes up at around 6am. He currently wakes up 1-2 times throughout the night for a quick feeding and a diaper change, and goes back to sleep pretty quickly most of the time. Right after starting daycare, he was waking up almost every 45 minutes throughout the night for a couple of weeks (that was rough!!), so at least his wakings throughout the night have decreased. It seems that his sleep has taken a turn for the better recently, so hopefully we continue to progress towards sleeping through the night again!! He still naps 3 times a day. His naps vary from 1.5 hours to 3 hours each nap. Joseph definitely loves his naps!!
Weight and length? 15 lbs 14 oz, and 26 1/2 inches long.
How are YOU feeling? We just had our offer accepted on a house, and will be moving in 2 months. While I am extremely excited to have more space, I am dreading the process of packing and moving. I just can't wait until we are moved, as I am completely in love with our new home!!
Other
Eating: He’s still exclusively breastfed, and hasn’t taken a bottle at all since I started work. Yay!! I have gone to breastfeed him throughout my days at work every single day. Sometimes it has been a little challenging to rearrange my schedule around his feeding times, but Joseph is priority number one, and I have always managed to make it work. I used to go nurse him 3 times throughout my work day, but that has decreased to 2 times over the last month or so. I let him call the shots, and adjust accordingly. Currently I feed him at drop off, go back at 11am and 2pm, and then feed him at pick up. That seems to work out good right now. I’m planning on continuing to nurse him throughout the day until he’s one year old. I love going to see him throughout my work days!! I’m taking Joseph for his 6 month checkup this Friday, and am looking forward to the doctor giving us the green light to start him on actual food!! Over the next few months I will work on increasing his food intake, while decreasing the amount of milk he’s drinking. I’m greatly looking forward to giving him his first feeding!! We have his chair ready to go!!
Personality: He really is a happy baby. He loves smiling at people in the elevator, and they always comment on how happy and content he looks. He is very talkative, and loves babbling conversations. He also intently watches people. Usually, the only time he cries is when he is tired and ready for a nap.
Likes: Reading, playing in the jumperoo, grabbing at toys and rolling on his activity mat, bath time, stroller rides, watching people (especially in the elevator), banging on the piano, standing, sitting, and knocking down stacked blocks. He currently is so excited to sit, and also loves to stand with support!! He occasionally will take a few steps when you are holding him in a standing position.
Dislikes: Anyone trying to interfere with his nap.
Questions or concerns? We started him on solid food a couple of days ago, and he still isn't really eating anything. He just plays with it and spits it out. Is this normal? Should I keep trying everyday, or give it a couple days before trying again? How long did it take for your baby to get the hang of eating pureed foods? We chose sweet potatoes as his first meal.
Wow - I'm super impressed he's saying mom & dada already! Also a little jealous
As far as food goes, just let him lead the way. I would continue to try to give him food each day but if he doesn't love it or takes a little while to get the hang of actually using his mouth to eat rather than just suck, I wouldn't worry. He's learning a new skill and practice makes perfect. He'll be getting all of the nutrients he needs from breast milk and this part of "real food" isn't really to supplant that, just to teach him how to take in food as he grows.
Lastly, congrats on the house! It will be a pain to pack, of course, but it's great to hear that you are already in love with your new home. I hope you make many happy memories there
@pupatella Yes, that is completely normal. They actually have to learn how to move it down their throat and will push out a lot in the beginning. I would definitely keep trying everyday. What type of video monitor are you using? Do you like it? S has been in her own room for a few weeks now and I still only have the sound. I definitely need a video monitor though and trying to find one (reading reviews, price) isn't so easy. And congrats on the new house!
@Pupatella I want to commend you on your feeding routine. You are a supermom for everything you do for LO! I unfortunately wasn't able to EBF and your dedication make me want to try again when it comes time for #2.
Kudos to you on going through a rough patch with nighttime sleep. I went through it as well for a good month and I know how hellish that fatigue was every single morning. He does sounds like a great napper which is fabulous and also amazing that he is saying Mom and Dada! I can't wait to hear my LO utter those sweet syllables.
Regarding solids- yes it is absolutley normal that she is just playing with it and spitting most of it out right now. Keep attempting every day just a few teaspoons and one day he will take off with it. My LO is a food hound (like me ) and caught on right away but I know a few others babes on here that needed to "practice" before they took off. Sweet potato is an excellent choice as a first food. I did avocado, sweet potatoes and applesauce as LO's firsts (introduced separately and spaced out over a couple weeks of course). It took her a few attempts to enjoy the apples though, the tangy face she made was priceless.
I agree with everything everyone else says. It took Johnny forever to catch on to solids! But practice makes perfect, and now he's a champ We actually chose sweet potatoes first too with no luck... Bananas were the magic trick for us Keep up the great work Mama! You are a trooper! I hope your move goes quickly and smoothly, and I am also impressed that your man has been saying "mom" and "dada", what a big guy!
Thank you for all your responses!!! It's so nice to not post for awhile, and then when I do post I get such a warm welcome back.
I'll just keep trying the food a little everyday, and hope he catches on soon. Still not even close at this point. Haha. I didn't try it yesterday as he was so cranky, but hopefully back at it tonight!!
I wish I could upload a video of Joseph babbling. I don't think he realizes who Mom and Dad are. He just babbles Momomomom, Dadadadada. But it is still very sweet to hear.
My husband did the research on that so I can't specifically tell you why he chose that one. But I do remember that he didn't want one that you could see on your phone, as he was concerned about the security of it and someone hacking into the feed. I've attached a pic of what it looks like at night. You can have up to 4 cameras. We currently just have one and find it does the job. Feel free to ask any questions!!
Hmmm...it won't let me upload a pic for some reason. I'll try again when I'm in a better cell area as maybe that's the reason?
