Brownish bleeding/spotting for a few days?

Hey, everyone. Hopefully no one else has asked this question yet. I am 9 1/2ish weeks pregnant. Two days ago, after peeing, I wiped and saw a decent sized smear of dark brownish reddish blood. Of course, I freaked out. Since then, I've been spotting brownish blood. Not as much as when I wiped, but enough to leave some on my underwear. Not a lot, probably about 10 drops a day. I haven't had any cramping or anything and feel fine. We did have sex a day or two before bleeding. I am also on 200 mg/day of progesterone. I have had spotting in the past but this is more than I have had. I had an ultrasound at 7 weeks and the baby's heartbeat was normal, everything looked good.

Has anyone had spotting/bleeding for days like this? Should I be freaked out or no? I have an appointment with my OB on April 5th, but want to know if I should be super worried.

This has been asked a few times but I guess the threads have been buried. I'm sure someone will chime in that you should check the symptoms thread but it can be tough to dig through those and find someone with your same question.

Spotting can be and is usually normal.  Some women just spot. I spotted brown blood for 3 weeks(!!!). I'm now 1 day shy of 13 weeks and everything is looking great so far. It's very unnerving for sure but find comfort in knowing that many women have spotting and everything turns out fine. I still think it's worth mentioning it to your midwife/OB so that they can follow along.

@australianshepherdlover When I was on progesterone suppositories I was advised by my dr to not have sex due to the medicine making everything down there more sensitive and prone to irritation. Having said that, there are a bunch of things that could be causing the spotting and you'll feel loads better once you get checked out by your OB. Take care and hope all goes well!

@australianshepherdlover Brown spotting can be and usually is normal. However, it can also in rare cases, signal something is wrong. I have personal experience with this. I had spotting for about a week this pregnancy and everything has been fine so far. *TW**last pregnancy I had some light spotting as well and it was the start of a MMC*TW End** You should call your OB and let let them know what's going on and let them take it from there. They may want to move up you're appointment or just keep the same one. Firgers croseed that everything is good for you. Try and relax and stay off your feet for a bit if you can.

I experienced exactly what you are talking about and my doc said not to worry. She told me to call if it was bright red and heavier like a period. I have had several episodes like this and have finally accepted the fact that 1 in 4 women bleed during their pregnancy and I guess I'm that 1! I didn't have it during my first pregnancy so I freaked out....but what I remind myself is that our docs have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly and they will let us know when it's time to worry

Thanks everyone for your responses! The spotting stopped the other day but I just had some pinkish/brownish spotting yesterday. Although, it only lasted a few minutes and was after sex. I think that is probably considered relatively normal?

@maksim's mom I am on oral progesterone. Not sure if it could also cause spotting?

Thanks everyone for the responses! I have an OB appointment tomorrow so hopefully they will tell me that the baby is healthy and the spotting is not abnormal.

Hmm if it's oral then I'm not sure because I never had experience with it. I wonder if it can still cause irritation. Are you off progesterone now that you're in week 14? Hopefully once you're done with it the episodes of spotting will stop. It's so common but still stresses you out. Take care :)

@maksim's mom I am only 11 weeks along, so no, I'm still on it. I am going to ask my OB about it tomorrow and see what he says. Hmm.

My doctor said to call right away for spotting (I had already waited several days, oops). They like to check you out just in case. By the time I went in my spotting had stopped and everything was fine. It was super reassuring to see the baby moving around after the scariness that comes with spotting. My doctor did say no sex and I stupidly forgot to ask for how long... You may want to hold off as well until your doctor says it is okay.

@roo_baby that is reassuring! How far along are you? I didn't call my doctor because I had already been in for an ultrasound a couple of weeks ago for spotting. I spot fairly often so I would be getting ultrasounds like at least once a week. They kind of told me that if it isn't bright red and isn't soaking a pad, don't freak out. Thankfully I do have a regular scheduled OB appointment tomorrow morning, anyway.

@australianshepherdlover My spotting started right at 13 weeks and now I'm nearly 14. I didn't call at first either because I knew some spotting was normal, but they said it's better to check and be sure it's nothing. They did reassure me if it's not heavy or clumpy it's probably nothing, but still said if the spotting comes back to call or email.

When she did the ultrasound she wasn't really looking at the baby other than to see it was still there and had a good heartbeat. She mostly looked all around the sac and the placenta looking for problems. She also looked at my cervix to see if there were any issues down there. If you have an appointment tomorrow, that's perfect. Hope everything goes well!

@roo_baby So, they didn't see anything that explained why you are/were spotting? It's good that your baby looks healthy :)

My OB didn't do an ultrasound today, but he did listen with the doppler for the heartbeat. He heard it right away! He said because of that and the normal heartbeat that he isn't worried about the spotting. Just to call if it turns red and heavy, which it hopefully won't. Sounds like everything is okay, hopefully it stays that way! :)

    @australianshepherdlover Glad everything is ok!

@australianshepherdlover Yay for a strong heartbeat! She said if I was still spotting she might have been able to figure out why, but since it had stopped that morning and she didn't see anything unusual she didn't have an explanation. She did say if you had sex within a day or so of it starting, that's a likely cause.
