Easter ideas?

Hey Mamas,

I'm wondering what y'all are doing for Easter baskets and egg hunts this year?

It's family tradition to do the chocolate egg hunt but I don't really want LO eating more than one or two of those. We have a bunch of colourful plastic eggs but I can't think of anything that's small enough and still baby friendly. Ideas?

For a basket, similar deal. We got her a felt garden in a crate and I think I might just give her that as her whole "basket". I can't think of any other good ideas that aren't just sugar or junk we don't need.

Re: Easter ideas?

  • I was just looking into this. Some suggestions I read for filling plastic eggs were finger puppets, socks, animal crackers, yogurt drops, and alphabet magnets. I'm doing an Easter basket for her also but I'm not going crazy with filling it. I'm getting her a Easter book, a stuffed chick and rabbit, a sippy cup and hide and "squeak" eggs. She already has so much stuff that barely gets any play!

  • For Brynlee, she'll get clothes, a stuffed animal, and mess free art supplies in her basket. As for the eggs, instead of candy you can put yogurt bites or puffs. That way they still get to snack. For us, we pool all the candy together (3 kids total) so she may get a piece or two, but the rest will just be put away.
  • I'm so excited for this. We're doing a combo of finger puppets and stickers in her eggs. She lovessss stickers.

Ooh, finger puppets is a great idea! I also love the idea of stickers. I don't know how LO feels about stickers but they are inexpensive enough to find out!
  • I think I'm going to do a grocery cart for Charlie's Easter "basket" and put some play food in it. He loves his kitchen and I know he will get a kick out of putting everything in the cart and taking it out again. I like the stickers idea but I'm not sure I can trust him to not try and eat them constantly - everything goes straight in his mouth still.

@BarrettJ89 what are these mess free art supplies? All of our fun art stuff is super messy

  • I never gave Birdie her birthday presents, as she got so much from other people, even after the "no gifts" on the invitation. I plan on putting those things in a basket and calling it Easter! I have the Little People school bus and the Laugh and Learn Dress and Go Puppy from Fisher Price. (It's like big plastic paper dolls where the outfits pop on and off.) I will likely add a faith-based Easter board book and that will be all for this year.
Traditionally in our family, an Easter basket contains a book, a game, your Easter church outfit, and a bit of candy. In years to come, I will probably stick with that.
  • I found some bubbles in the target dollar spot and picked up 2 summer outfits. Z loves stuffed animals at the moment so I splurged on a stuffed frog and a tiny carrot shaped package of reese's pieces. His daddy will probably end up with those. I am all about a small basket..sometimes simple is best. Every year my sister does "Summer toy" Themed baskets for her kids. Useful and fun.
  • @charliesmommy6 it's by Crayola! They have markers and finger paints that only show up on their specific paper. My 2 year old loves the markers and coloring books because he recognizes the characters. Brynlee loves the finger paints. They're non-toxic, smell decent, and wipe right off! There's a ton of different options!
  • Same as other people, simple and small. I picked a few things at walmart the other day, including a egg filled with skittles or some other candy she won't eat but makes noise, and a couple of touch and feel books which she is obsessed with right now. I like the art idea bc she doesn't have much of that at home so I may throw in some of that!
  • We're not doing an Easter basket but I did buy DS this sweet Easter outfit.
  • I was thinking of using his Easter basket as a way to get him some fun outside stuff since the weather is getting nice here. Bubbles, sidewalk chalk, gardening toys, sandals. Just a few ideas I have.
  • I got LO a very small, hollow chocolate bunny, some prefilled eggs, bubbles, sidewalk chalk and we just moved into a community with a private lake with a beach so I also got some buckets, shovels & sand molds to hopefully distract him from just eating the sand haha
