Baking soda?

Has anyone here tried baking soda to help with ph and cm? I read that the little swimming like a more alkaline environment. I read about baking soda drink and the baking soda finger. Anyone tried it please let me know if it has any side effects.  Thanks!

  • I have never heard of this but am intrigued.  Do you possibly have a link to what you read?

  • Hi @Jessica p - I've never tried this, or heard of it - and truthfully, it sounds a little snake-oily to me. That said, I have tried some kooky things myself. (Insert pineapple joke here.)

Once I read that in Roman times, as an early precursor to IUIs, ancient doctors recommended that after intercourse, the men use their fingers to push the semen closer to the cervix - like that was the treatment for childless couples. After reading this, one night, I asked DH to try it. He was like: "What?! No!" but I persisted - I think at that point, we'd been trying for like 8-9 months, so I was starting to get desperate.

It didn't work, but it makes me laugh just thinking of it. The things we do for love. ;)<3:p

I'd be wary of the baking soda though, particularly close to my cervix. I wouldn't want to throw the ph off too much and cause irritation/a rash/anything like that.
  • @Jessica p This seems like a terrible idea and I certainly wouldn't try anything like this without talking to your doctor first. If you're concerned about CM, use Preseed.
  • Do not put baking soda inside of yourself!! It's a super abrasive substance and you will definitely harm the sensitive tissue in there. I'm an ER and Maternal/Child nurse. If pH is your issue (do you even know that is the issue?) your provider can advise you on SAFE ways to manage that.
