Trouble TTC

Sharp stabbing (like a knife) pain/spasms in uterus

I posted this question in the March IUI board as well but thought I'd also reach out to you guys to ask...

Yesterday was cd7 and my last dose of letrozole (2nd cycle on it). Throughout the day yesterday I would get sharp shooting pains kind of like a spasm (or someone stabbing me with a knife) in my vagina/uterus and sometime back to my butt. They came frequently and were sometimes so painful they had me doubled over and the episode lasted 6-7 hours.

***TW***

I gave birth to twins at 18 weeks and some of the pains felt very similar to contractions.

***end TW***

Dr. Google says this can be a sign of vaginal infection, UTI, endometriosis, bladder infection, etc. Has anyone ever experienced this? I called my RE and they said they would look into it and call me back

Re: Sharp stabbing (like a knife) pain/spasms in uterus

  • I do not have any experience with what you are describing.  I have had UTI's before, but the kind of pain that I experienced with those was a sharp pain in my abdomen when I urinated.  Other signs of UTIs would include burning sensation when you pee, strong odor to your urine, cloudy appearance to urine, back pain, or low grade fever.

  • Hmm I have none of those symptoms and I have had a UTI one time. The only way I knew I had one was when I had blood in my urine but there's none of that. I've only had a couple episodes today so hopefully it's going away but my goodness yesterday was terrible

  • I have had some sharp lightning bolt pains in my vagina before. They happened once or twice and never again. I'm not sure why that happened. I don't know anything about letrozole - could it be some kind of side effect?

Has it been happening since you first posted?

  • @MooFish2364 I had terrible pains Monday, just two incidents yesterday and then nothing so far today. So I think I should be good, but my-lanta it was uncomfortable. I talked to my REs office and they said it shouldn't be from the letrozole so I would need to talk to my OB about potential infection. I can never get in touch with my OBs office so I'm just gonna roll with it at this point

  • @SoonToBeMommaHowe I don't have any experience with this but I just wanted to say that I'm glad it has stopped and you are feeling better!
  • Thank you @Kim41313

  • @SoonToBeMommaHowe I'm  sorry you were going through that, but I am glad you're feeling better! I don't have much advice, but I have had a bacterial infection (bacterial vaginosis, not an STI) and recently finished antibiotics, and I had had weird pains before and uncomfortable intercourse (sorry TMI) that I guess was due to the BV. Might be worth trying to get in touch with your OB/GYN just to make sure :) Our bodies are so strange sometimes, aren't they? Praying you continue to feel better!
  • Thank you @missmo. Perhaps you're right and it's worth the call. Thanks!
