I'm a stm but can't remember with my first , anyone else's LO umbilical stump smell terrible?! It's awful , looks like it's hanging by a thread, doesn't look infected but smells so bad! If so any tips or tricks to help mask the smell?
When we went to the peds for the 1 month appt after his cord had fallen off, his belly button had just started too ooze a little and smell. They said there was still a little tissue in his belly button from the cord and she put some silver nitrate in it to get rid of it. No problem now.
Mine smelled a little for the last day it was on. I think there's a little stink when there is a week old rotting flesh... hah. But it can't hurt to have it checked out in case
@MsTurney - minimal stimulation - I don't do a diaper change after 4am unless there's poop. I do a sniff and that's it. Keep it dark, feed, burp, swaddle, lay back down. For some babies (mine is like this) we needed to buy a wedge to prop the bassinet mattress up because he has reflux and will not sleep completely flat. Unfortunately though babies don't really know the difference between day/night for a few months so it's just a learning experience and the routine is something your baby will get used to eventually. I did see someone mention their baby didn't do well with the bassinet but took to the crib (more padding = more comfort for baby - your womb was soft and padded so makes sense). May be worth a try at some point.
@MsTurney my LO prefers to sleep in her rock n play at this point but she will sleep in the bassinet only if she is swaddled. I think she still likes to feel like she's squished in the womb and she's almost a month old. May be worth a shot!
I've noticed LO takes better to her bassinet when I put the blanket we've been snuggling in for feeding underneath her. This way when I lay her down it's not cold it's warm from us using it. I also put a receiving blanket or burp cloth that has some milk on it from nursing.. so the smell probably seems like I'm close. (Same idea as the t-shirt)
