I am starting this thread for selfish reasons.

Do do you have plans this summer for a vacation or even just a small trip? Do you have any questions reguarding said trip?

Re: Summer Travels

  • I have my girls Nationals trip to Hershey, PA in June. We are staying at a resort with an indoor water park. Not a huge water park like Great Wolf Lodge or Kalahari, but something for the kids to do between competing. Of course we want to also take them to the amusement park too. I will be approximately 23 weeks pregnant at that point. Obviously I won't be able to go on rides , but will the park still make me pay for a full price admission clearly showing at that point?  We also have a trip to the poconos planned but that won't involve anything but pure relaxation.

  • Palm Spings for a bachelorette party. Lake Powell for a long weekend on a house boat. Arizona for a wedding. Las Vegas for a time share. Washington to visit family. San Diego for a birthday. Mexico Rivera cruise in August for 10 days with family. Possibly Spain in September. Busy, busy!

  • We may go to Montreal for a week or so this summer, but neither of us is what you'd classify as a relaxed traveller. We both fuss and worry and wish we were home. We have lots of a friends there and usually go once (or twice) a year. It's lovely to catch up with our old neighbourhood and eat all the wonderful Montreal foods. We're both vegetarians, but Montreal has an amazing veggie scene!

I wonder about amusement parks, too! I'm not into rides at the best of times, but do love walking around them. Who knows when I'll start showing though as a first timer so it may be a non-issue on my end.

  • oh fun thread! not much help on the admissions part, I bet if you checked out their website they would have a pregnancy policy.

My DHs family lives in NY.  We try to make the trip every other year and this is the year.  We are driving (22 hour car ride) up this time.  I'm pretty nervous about how that part is going to go with a 2-1/2 year old and me being 26 weeks at that point.  I'm already scouting out fun stops for us to take and stretch our legs, so any suggestions in the Ohio/Western Pennsylvania and Kentucky areas?  Any good breakfast stops in Nashville?

  • Hawaii in June to visit my sister! Looking forward to letting my bump show!
  • So way before DH and I had even discussed trying for #2, we bought pit passes to Eric Church. I'll be around 20 weeks at the concert. Anyone have thoughts on that? I'll talk to my doctor, of course, but my google search gives me pretty mixed signals on yay or nay. He's not going to have any opening acts, so it should be about 3-4 hours tops on my feet. I mean, worst case I guess I can just find a chair somewhere to sit down? Would noise be a problem?

  • @mlasenburg Have fun!  My mom lives there and we just got back from a visit in February.

We don't have much travel plans except to visit DHs family in Oklahoma around the 4th of July.  We then are going back to Oklahoma in September for his brother's wedding.

  • natleilynn  just went to Eric Church's concert a month ago.  It was great, so you'll enjoy it.  But, I was exhausted half way through the second half and sat for the rest of the time.  The first time I went to see him I was around 20 weeks and had to sit for a majority of it.  Not in a million years I would want to go to the pit.  Also, concert started at 8 and we got out of there at midnight so it was every bit of 4 hours.
  • @mrs_fogue Gahhhhhh! He's our favorite, but we've never gotten pit passes before. It's also about a 2-3 hour drive from where we live, even though we live in a major city. Last round I had tons of energy in the 2nd trimester, so I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm going to be so bummed if I have to sell/give my ticket to someone.

  • natleilynn my last pregnancy we had awesome tickets to see Garth Brooks, I've never seen him before.  I got put on bed rest the day before and DH went without me!!!  I was so bummed and I still give him hell for that.
  • Nothing. We are going to try to get our car loan paid off before October so that pretty much takes away any $ for a trip. I'll be living vicariously through everyone else. Take lots of photos!

  • Nope. Although DH is taking a week vacation in July. So maybe we'd go down to the states for a few days? We have a toddler and travelling with a toddler just doesn't sound enjoyable to me. Maybe he'd like to stay with the grandparents for a weekend. Hmmm...now you've got me thinking!
  • I've got a bachelorette trip to Savannah, GA at the end of June which I'm very much looking forward to.  Otherwise, no major plans.  We were supposed to go to DC this summer after a canceled trip in December but with all the other things going on - showers, my sister's wedding, etc - it's not going to happen.  H and I will probably do a few long weekends before baby.

  • @mommac2017 at first I freaked out that your husband was "wasting" vacation days before baby but then remembered you're in Canada, right?
I wanted to do a babymoon but DH already has a few trips planned with his family that I feel obligated to help him save his remaining days. I hate hate hate that there isn't paternal leave and that my leave is only 2 days full pay, 6wks 60% and 6wks no pay.
But I've never been abroad and Lake Como seems so beautiful....

  • @vvilla3, yes, Canadian here! We have already discussed DH taking a month (or more if I can convince him) of parental leave when this LO arrives. I'm a SAHM, so we might as well use our parental leave for him!
  • @mommac2017 how does ya'lls parental leave work?  Does your employer pay for it like an unemployment or a mandated benefit?  Or is it funding through the government?
  • @mrs_fogue, both. We get I think 55% paid for by the government (unemployment insurance that we pay into through our jobs). Then most employers offer a "top up". So my job topped me up to 93% of my wage. I believe we get 15 weeks of maternity leave and then up to 35 weeks of parental leave. The parental leave can all be taken by mom, all by dad, or split between the two. So because I am now not working, DH is eligible for 35 weeks of parental leave if he wants to take it all. I don't think we'd do that though. But probably a month or a bit more.
  • Going to Myrtle Beach in June! The question is do I get a two piece and show the bump or a one piece? I'm not sure what the "trend" is.

@mommac2017 That leave sounds amazing! We have such a crummy system here in the US :frowning:
  • @curlyq423 we took a day trip to Myrtle this fall to visit some friends from our honeymoon - she was 8 months pregnant at that point and totally rocked the tankini   We may be doing Outer Banks in July and I'm planning for the tankini route.

  • We're going to Lake Shasta for a week of houseboating with our youth group kids in mid-June, and San Diego with my family in late July. We may also do a camping trip with H's family somewhere in there, and my mom wants me and her to go to Denver to visit her cousins and my BFF.
  • Nothing big planned this year. A couple weekend trips to the beach I'm sure. I really wanna take the kids to Disney soon. I was hoping this year since my youngest is 3, but now we will probably wait a couple more years.

Going to the beach in July! First vacation since our HM 3 years ago. I live in MD so Ocean City is kind of what we grow up doing. I've been there as a kid, teenage, drunk twenty something and now as a mom. Lol it will be so weird having my own kid there. DD is going to love it (I hope)!

We are visiting family in Alabama for a couple of weeks at the beginning of June. I've been trying to think of a weekend getaway too (we are in New England).

  • @canonmom413 when we were younger and would go to Hershey as kids, my grandmother would get spectator admission. It was cheaper and she couldn't ride the rides. That's all the details I know and that was 20+ years ago but Id bet they still have something like that

  • I think just a trip to Savannah around June/July :)

@kmornelas29 Doesn't the idea of traveling to Europe at 8 months pregnant freak you out??

  • @kkerner87 I live in MD too and Ocean City is now where we go.  I'm a jersey girl and grew up with beaches 20 min every which way, and OC is a good 3 hours from me now. But we still go and even make it a day trip sometimes.

  • I'm so excited for our England/Scotland/Wales Vacation at the end of July.  We booked it before I got BFP, but we were trying so knew me being pregnant was a possibility.  I already checked it with my Doctor and he was fine with it.  This has been on the bucket list for a while!

  • All of these trips sound amazing! I can't wait to hear about them!
In a few days I'm headed to Jamaica, next month we're doing Ireland and seeing Bruno Mars while we're there. May we're hoping to do Germany and tour where my late Omie grew up. And then June we're going to Paris finally! July is up in the air, we usually do something fun for the 4th but who knows what I'll feel up to doing by then. We want to get a few places done before the little one arrives. But travelling anywhere and not being able to drink is so evil! I haven't shared with my dad yet because I wanted to wait til I see him and he already has all these bars in Jamaica that he wants to go to, including one in the middle of the ocean that you swim too! Oh well, I'm just excited for some relaxing days!

@flying.fall (can't tag bc of the period)

i hate to be /that/ person, but how do you feel about Jamaica and Zika? I almost booked our babymoon to Puerto Rico then remembered the Zika warnings in the carribean. FTM and terrified of everything... so take my comment with a grain of salt.

  • going to southern California for a family reunion in July for 2 weeks. I live on the east coast, so this will be like my babymoon in a way. We rented a house on the beach :)

  • In May we are going to Oregon/Washington! I know a few of you ladies live up there and I am pretty jealous! A few years ago we went and stayed overnight in Cannon Beach, and it was perfection. Nice and chilly and serene, and even had a dog photo bomb a sunset like a magical unicorn :D It just gets so uncomfortably hot in Houston so I'm really looking forward to the change in environment.

  • @vvilla3 I totally understand your concern! I'm cautious but prepared and covering all my bases. I have my bug spray, mosquito nets, and the house we are staying at has natural repelling mosquito plants planted all around it. The Parrish I'm travelling to has had no reports of the Zika virus and Jamaica itself has only had 139 confirmed cases. Plus the "outbreak" in Jamaica has almost completely disappeared since October. I know it's not 100% but for me being always worried about what may be harming me or the little one causes too much stress because everything has the potential to harm you. There's a higher risk of me being in a car wreck than contracting the Zika virus. Don't get me wrong, I'm very concerned for my little ones health- just approaching it in a different manner. I hope my reply doesn't offend anyone!
  • @flying.fall you sound so sane. Share some sanity this way - I'm freaking out about almost everything lol! Now I'm sad I didn't book the babaymoon when the price was right - but at 6/7 wks and puking morning noon and night - it didn't really seem like a smart idea.
Im excited for your trip (: you got this!

I believe it!  I was looking at flights for our trip around that time and they were $1000 more than what we usually spend and that's for the least expensive seats we could find.  Hence the reason for our now road trip.
  • That's insane! DH has a personal credit card for work expenses, so he has enough points for us to fly and hotel, otherwise I would be thinking a road trip sounds fun!

Ohhh @natleilynn what show are you going to? I'm going to the one in CT and will be about 16 weeks I think. A friend of mine just went to the Boston show and said he played for four amazing hours (started acoustic and transitioned to rock). She was 20 weeks pregnant at the time and had a great time! She said it wasn't too bad bc of the acoustic set.

    Eric Church is my favorite!!!!
  • I'm jealous of some of these vacation plans! We have a bunch of out-of-town weekends planned for the summer but no big trips yet. I would love to make it to Palm Springs for a few days and we'll probably visit DH's family at least once on the other side of the country.

  • We currently have no plans but I would like to take a trip somewhere.  Unfortunately my DH cannot understand that it would be nice to do something relaxing just the two of us before the baby comes.  Anything he suggests is either a go go go type of vacation or one where other people join us.  Sigh.  Why can't we just go to the beach for a few days?
