How far along are you?/When are you due? 14 weeks today!! Due date September 13th

Upcoming appointments this week? I had my nuchal on Monday, and my regular checkup is on Friday. 

Rants about being pregnant? My nuchal tech was pretty much grinding the ultrasound wand into my stomach, so I'm still feeling sore two days later. Not much of a rant, but it's all I've got. 

Raves about being pregnant? My morning sickness and fatigue are finally going away, so that's good, and I had REALLY good nuchal+blood results, so I'm feeling less anxious than usual. 

GTKY: Who will be joining you in the delivery room? I will be delivering solo, unless I hire a doula. I still haven't decided if I want one or not, I'm a pretty private person but it might be nice to have SOME support.

Upcoming appointments this week? Nope. Had my NT on Friday. Next appointment at 16 weeks.

Rants about being pregnant? So tired and hungry.

Raves about being pregnant? I got to see the baby move during that NT. It was awesome!

GTKY: Who will be joining you in the delivery room? Just DH. He has been ordered to barricade the door if necessary to keep my mom out. I wish that was a joke, but I'm seriously afraid she won't listen when I tell her to go to the waiting room.

Questions for 2nd + Time Moms: Anyone have recommendations on types of formula? Several women in my family have had issues with not being able to produce enough milk, so I want to have formula handy just in case I need to supplement.

@bridge-and-wall I switched to formula at 10 months with my DD due to dropping supply. This might be an unpopular opinion ... but I used store off-brand. It was way cheaper even than any coupons I could find for the major brand name stuff. It had the exact same ingredients and nutrition facts. DD had no allergies or reflux, so I can't speak to those potential issues. Also, formula does have an expiration date (I did not know this), so be sure to look for that if you're buying just to keep on hand.

@bridge-and-wall if you sign up for some of the various places as expecting, they send you samples. The samples were enough for me at first when I needed to supplement. Then I was able to find what worked and just bought what was needed to supplement.

Upcoming appointments this week? If the lab ever gets the glucose drink back in stock, I'll have a one hour glucose test. 

Rants about being pregnant? This relentless, atomic heartburn may be the death of me. I honestly think I'd rather have the nausea. 

Raves about being pregnant? I'm going to have a son! I tear up anytime I even think that phrase. Any bad symptom is worth it when I think about the end goal. 

GTKY: Who will be joining you in the delivery room? DH definitely. Probably a doula, and maybe my parents. We'll see how I feel about it as the time gets closer.

@amandarene112 I got the Ameda Purely Yours free from my insurance. In the beginning, however, I rented a Medela hospital grade pump from Babies R Us.

@cmar1006 Did you have a preference between them?

Well Medela was heavy duty, so it probably got the job done in half the time. But the Ameda was just as good for me. I didn't have any issues with supply, so I felt like both were able to get out the milk efficiently.

When are you due?

Our due date was updated to 9/11 at our NT scan last week. I'm pretty sure that our old date is more accurate with BD timing. Plus DH's family all have huge babies (like 12-14 lbs.) so I expect this LO to be big.

Upcoming appointments this week?

Next appointment is Wednesday next week. The joys of the glucose test. 

Rants about being pregnant? 

I was really hoping the morning sickness would go away by now, but it's still hanging on. Bleh... My OB asked DH if I was eating because I only have lost weight so far.

GTKY: Who will be joining you in the delivery room? 

Only DH. My in-laws will be on a different continent, and my family isn't involved. I feel like I am going to be swarmed at the hospital by DH's firehouse family. His shift mate's parents are thrilled we are expecting and expressed their anticipation of waiting for Laurel to arrive at the hospital.

I am happy to have all the love and support, but idk how ready I will be to see people after birthing a babe.

amandarene112 I have the Medela pump in style- I cant say enough good about it. I had a lot of over supply so I used my pump A LOT ( over 1000 oz pumped and donated plus several hundred kept for my sons use) never one issue with the pump. I consider it one of the best investments I made.

@amandarene112 I had Medela PISA. It worked really well for me and was super convenient to buy replacement pieces to keep it working well and flanges that fit correctly to get milk out without pain. I used it for a full year while I worked full time and it kept up with me. I passed it along to another mom when I was done and she used it for another 6 months or so working full time. It's a solid pump choice. I wouldn't be disappointed to get another. However, I'm eyeing the Spectra S1 or S2 for this baby if insurance covers it. I've heard output/letdown controls are more precise and just general "it's an awesome pump" feedback from other working moms. My oldest we had a cheaper $70-ish dollar pump and it was crap. Getting a quality pump is worth every penny (I've had to buy all mine OOP since my babies were pre-ACA). I also really really love the Medela manual pump. So much easier to clean and there was something soothing about pumping yourself. I know that sounds weird... maybe I just got sick of the motor sounds of the electric? Anyway, the PISA was definitely more time efficient, but I loved my manual and will get another one too since they're fairly cheap. If I was a SAHM, I'd probably skip the electric pump altogether, honestly.

Upcoming appointments this week? Today...not even sure what we are covering today but hoping to hear the baby on the doppler. 

Rants about being pregnant? Heartburn waking me up in the middle of the night. Not being able to eat spicy food anymore. Being hungry all the time but also not that interested in most food.

Raves about being pregnant? Seeing my husband getting excited to be a dad...we are going on vacation soon and he plans to read the book when your wife is expecting while on vacation...that is like the cutest thing ever cause he doesn't really read books and he is going to use his vacation time to do so (with out me promoting or asking). Hearing her and seeing her. That all the vitamins I have been taking forever seem to have been working to keep my healthy this winter when so many others have been sick. 

GTKY: Who will be joining you in the delivery room? My DH and a Doula. I am sure after the golden hour we will have both his parents and my parents in our room with us meeting the baby. Not sure when his sister/family and my brother/family will make it. I think it is super sweet to have that hour just us and baby....but honestly will be happy (most likely) to share special moment with her Grandparents...people that are very excited for her to be in this world.

1. When deciding your kiddos name...how did you know what was the right one?

@BecauseLove I just had a peace about the names. Also, we were told to yell the whole name across the house loudly to see if it worked, because you'll be doing that A LOT over the coming years. Lol!

@amandarene112 I got the Medela PISA from my insurance (although it's called something different with the insurance).  I used it through two kids and loved it.  I'll be getting another one with this baby as it's lost some of its power at this point.

@BecauseLove We usually get names narrowed down to two, and then wait to see Baby before we make a final decision.  First kid got the name we were pretty set on; second kid got the name we weren't leaning towards because our first choice didn't seem to fit as well.

Rants about being pregnant? i just want it to be second tri and have a bump. I want to get to the point where I have more frequent appointments and checks on LO.

Raves about being pregnant? it's fun telling people. It's fun imagining LO squirming away in there.
