Hello everyone I'm 31 and have had been ttc for over 8 years with no luck what so ever. I'm married to a wonderful man that has no kids. We have been together for 12 years and would love a little one. At first we just thought it wasn't our time but now it feels like our time will never come. No one knows we can't get pregnant and would like to keep it that way for now. I just get sick of every one asking us when we are going to start a family. I have been going to the doctor the last few months and found out I have a high tsh , asthma,  very bad allergies, and have to have a hsg test done in a few months. Maybe some one will find out something that can help me. I have another tsh test next month if its still up then I will start meds for that. I do take meds for asthma, and was told asthma meds are making my tsh go up. I feel like I'm falling apart with out the asthma meds so can't stop that. My period has been so crazy the last 2 years. It will start for 2 days then stop for 2 to 3 days then come back. Gyn said I could go on bc but I said no because we want a baby. I have never been on bc and don't want to. I'm here now to have people to talk to that know how I feel. Thanks for having me and good luck to everyone!

  • Welcome! I'm sorry that you have to be here, but these ladies are pretty awesome.

I have asthma also. The inhaler I used about a year ago seriously messed with my cycle, so I stopped using it. I think it was the steroids in the inhaler, but I was bleeding like every 2 weeks. I wasn't tracking my cycle then so I don't know if it was just random bleeding mid cycle or if it messed with my ovulation. Have you tried other types of astham meds? I take a pill now instead of daily inhaler and it works well for me, but everyone is different.

Are you working with an RE?
  • Welcome! Hopefully you'll get answers soon and be able to treat whatever it is that's keeping you from getting your baby!

  • Thanks everyone! I have asthma inhaler and pills and have to take steroids every other month or I can't get a breath it really sucks. The steroids are what's got my thyroid out of control. I have to have hsg test in a few months. Anyone that's had it done does it hurt? I'm a little scared from the videos I watch on YouTube
  • HSG test is no biggie in terms of pain. Take a cpl pain relievers an hour before your procedure and then it's just some cramping like menstrual cramps. Some people spot, I didn't, but bring undies and a pantiliner in case and also because some of the dye will run out of you after.

I have asthma too. I talked to my specialist about inhalers before TTC. He assured me that the type I'm taking (Symbicort - budesonide is the steroid ingredient) should not have a significant effect with fertility. My cycles don't appear to be affected by it, as they are regular.

Which inhaler do you take? Have you talked to them about other inhaler options?

  • I have a lot of inhalers pro air, serevent, and dulera. The dulera inhaler is the one with steroids (the only one that helps) I use it 2 time a day. And I take steroid pills. I have talked with my doctor and have used others but they don't  help. I am on singulair now that helps. So now I just have to have steroid pills every other month. I have been dealing with asthma for 5 years now and only had it under control for the last few months, now that I'm on singulair.
  • Well fantastic you found the inhaler that manages it for you! I still remember when I first found symbiocort 10years ago - it was life changing to never worry about attacks.

It sounds like your asthma is a bit different to mine then, so my advice probably would be applicable. FX you are one of those lucky ladies whose asthma reduces during pregnancy!

  • Welcome @Jessica p - I hope you find support on these boards!

Oh man - 8 years! No wonder it feels like your time will never come. I have been trying for 18 months and I'm struggling to not lose hope, so I don't know how you're doing it! Have you had any testing other than the asthma and tsh tests done?

It's very likely your thyroid is what's messing with your cycle, if your steriods are affecting it, but you're best off doing all the tests, to be sure. Irregular cycles could be from endo or fibroids or polyps or different hormone levels... like low progesterone or high testosterone.

Good luck with your HSG, and FX you find out whatever is throwing your cycles off too! One of the recurring themes that comes up on this board is how important it is to advocate for yourself and your own health care. I am lucky - I'm at a good clinic - and even still, I'm surprised at how much my own research has improved my treatment.

Hang in there and don't be afraid to ask lots of questions and put yourself first!
  • Thanks. I had a few test done everything just comes back ok so for now it's just unexplained. I finally got a new doctor who is doing more test for me and DH. I have had a lump removed from my right boob that turned out to be a fibroid so now she want to check if I have them in other places. And just found out Tuesday that I have a cysts in my belly button (omg so painful)  My mama has a history of pcos and and a few other things that my doctor now is looking in too. So hope to get good new soon.
