PCS at 35 weeks - trouble finding new OB

My husband and I are moving when I will be about 35 weeks on military orders. I started calling up to OB offices in our new city (it is a special assignment - nearest base is >1 hr away), and they all refuse new patients that late, no exceptions. They said I could just go to the ED..... like I don't want to be seen by an OB in the last 5 weeks or so of pregnancy!

I am so so so frustrated and discouraged. It stinks having to change providers and not being able to plan much anyway because of the move, but seems unbelievable to not be able to find a new OB. I am compliant, will have records, and obviously the move really isn't my choice. Has anyone dealt with this? I plan on talking to my OB tomorrow, and calling UHC if that doesn't help.

You might want to make sure your current OB is ok with you traveling that late. Depending on your pregnancy they may not and it might be worth it to see if your husband's orders could be delayed or you stay behind to have the baby.

  • Unfortunately, his orders can't be moved up or forward due to other circumstances, and I am not keen on having a baby without him after an entire pregnancy without him. Thanks for your response, I appreciate it!
  • I've heard of this happening. I agree with PP you're current OB may not be ok with you traveling. My DH is currently in a different state and I've done this pregnant since 17 weeks without him. He is hoping to be here for the birth, but we are prepared if he doesn't make it. I would definitely look into staying behind to have the baby.
  • I was 34 weeks when we PCSD with my daughter. I found a new OB made an appointment ahead of time and I also found a PCM. I am on prime remote so I had them back date everything. I had zero issues. I told the new OB I had no choice but to move then and they were okay with it. I was worried they wouldn't take me  but they were totally okay with Military familes.
