As for the guardianship I totally get the apprehension over people who seem uninterested. My sister and BIL live 5 minutes from his bro/SIL and they are close in age, make good money, have a house. I live 5hrs away in another state, was single, living in a one bdrm, and was 24 at the time they decided on guardian for their daughter. They chose me.
His brother/SIL don't want kids, and show little interest in our niece, she is 6, they have babysat one night. So while at the time they had a more established option, they still chose me because while it was difficult, but they felt insurance would help me care for her and they wanted her to be with someone who was excited about her from the beginning, if anything ever happened.
Is your DH younger sister just not an option b/c of age?

@Lindstothee  my back kills me too in bed!  I put a pillow either under or between my knees last night and that helped a lot.  I heard lots of good things about the snoogle.  I think thats what its called.  I believe its like $35 at amazon.

Thanks for the support ladies.  I hope they're just taking turns napping.  She has an anterior placenta so i can't feel her move yet. :(

  • @DDRGirlie I have a snoogle but the top is too poofy for my neck but the single pillow between my legs does help! Thanks:)
  • I have a between the knee pillow I use all the time when I sleep because my lower back gets busted unless I baby it. It's worked for me so far this pregnancy and I haven't felt like I need anything more intense.

  • @DDRGirlie I have a mini snoogle.  I couldnt justify a full size one, as it was taller than me, and I knew I wouldnt want it as my head pillow.  The mini one wraps around my hips and gives me back support, and goes between my legs.  It is a life saver.

  • On the topic of working up until the baby is born. Were any STMs worried about going into labor AT work? I'd be so embarrassed if my water broke at work (clean up in aisle 3!), then I'd have to go find a cab. I imagine those of you who drive to work would have to drive yourself to the hospital while in labor. And then you don't have your hospital bag (I guess your significant other can go grab it for you?).

Logistically, really, how did that work? Or do most moms just end up in labor at night by sheer coincidence? I know one woman who did start labor here at the office and she did take a cab to the hospital; a coworker went with her to ensure she got there and checked in safely.
I worry about this too.  I work 30+ miles from my house/the hospital.  There are people here who would gladly drive me to the hospital if this happened, but then my car would be at work, or they would be stuck in the city, or whatever.  My coworkers would definitely not let me drive myself to the hospital if my water broke!

I know, realistically, with twins I am either going to have a scheduled C or be on bed rest or at least told to WFH before going into labor.  But I am still wondering how this works if someone's water breaks at work.

Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?  I got the results from my blood work and it sucks.  Negative for downs and trisomy, but my AFP is elevated, which is indicative of neural tube defects.  But having done IVF, I've had so many scans and it never showed anything.  My OB and MFM want it to be redrawn to see if its false positive.  But of course I can't help it and I have to plan out every possible scenario.  I know I'm not getting an amnio.  To me it most likely won't change the course of my pregnancy, so why risk the miscarriage?  I hope baby girl is okay.  She hardly moves during the u/s and baby boy is so hyper.  My friends just say they each have our personalities and that everything will be okay.

I'm really sorry you got concerning results.  But I wanted to make sure that they have told you that twins can cause elevated AFP even with no neural tube issues?  There are extremely high false positive rates for twins.  My OB doesn't even do that test with multiples because it usually comes back high.  Instead my MFM scans for the correct development at those appointments.

I hope everything is okay and it's just high because there are two babies.

I just came back from one! My husband came and he got to use the doppler :) Everything is looking good.
    Cravings?
Comfort foods: mac n cheese, tomato soup, chicken casserole
    Rants/raves?
I got a stupid cold, and although Robitussin is "safe," I couldn't find one without Guaifenesin, which is rated "C." So I haven't taken any yet because I'm not sure if I should. I have fluid and pressure behind my eardrum, but not an infection, so I didnt' get the quick-fix antibiotics. I was hoping a decongestant would help, but I haven't found a safe one!

When did you start feeling really pregnant? Now that I'm solidly in 2nd trimester, most symptoms have gone and I sometimes forget completely that I have someone inside me.
GTKY: In your opinion, what's the best meal or dish you make?
Salmon patties/burgers. I used home-canned salmon  or leftover salmon (I live in a fishing community in AK, salmon is everywhere)
  • @WineAndDogs yes! She is the best writer. Each recipe is like that and has an essay with it, so it's like a cookbook that you read cover to cover. It's just SO good!
  • @dinofreak Salmon burgers sound amazing right now. I bet the fish is insanely fresh! I've been struggling to find wild salmon.. everything is farm raised yuck :(

  • @dinofreak my cousin is a salmon fisherman on Bristol Bay and coming home to give a presentation about it this week. Totally looking forward to hearing more about salmon!
  • @littlebug2010 where did you find a mini snoogle?! The big one is too tall for me and hurts my neck!
  • @Lindstothee I got it on amazon. Motherhood had them, but they were only 10 bucks cheaper than the regular one.   This is the one I got https://www.amazon.com/Leachco-Snoogle-Compact-Sleeper-White/dp/B000KJZOWU/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1489673375&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+snoogle
I cant put it under my head, like the photo shows, but I wrap the larger part under my legs, and kinda wrap it around my hips, and I use my own pillow for my head.  Its so nice!

Is your DH younger sister just not an option b/c of age?

DH Sister is looking at marrying a 49 year old, who has no contact with his children, that are the same age as SIL, my husband, and his brother don't approve of this relationship and my MIL is fine with it, because "she just wants all her kids to be happy", since she can't be happy anymore.  She had decided to leave FIL, and like three weeks later it comes out that he has early onset aggressive Alzheimer's, side note: he always forgot things that weren't important to him, so never showed for kid's games, family birthday's, etc., come to find out it was the Alzheimer's, not that he was an inconsiderate ass.  So now she feels like god is spiting her for deciding to leave her husband. Anyways, so DH doesn't want his sister's boyfriend, future husband to have access to our kids, he gets a bad feeling about the guy.  What 49 year old wants to date and marry a 21 year old, and doesn't have contact with his own kids, would want to raise our child if something was to happen?!

  • @bwing10 now that sounds like a whole other ballgame! I wasn't sure if it was just her age or there was more to why she wasn't on your consideration list, but clearly there is so much more.
I'm sorry you are in such a tough spot, it is such a difficult decision to begin with, let alone with added family drama dynamics.
Hopefully it is not something that will ever need to be used, but I understand wanting it to still be someone who would be honored or at least who is excited for your new addition to begin with. Sending good vibes your way!
