Operation Board Ressurection

A few of us were talking on the Weekly Randoms thread that our board has gotten a little dead.... and sad... and boring. :/
I thought it might be a good idea to make a post asking for ideas for new weekly posts, GTKY ideas, etc...maybe when we see it getting a little slow, we could refer back here and find an idea of something good to post?

I also thought we might could get some ideas for the weekly photo thread. We've done wedding pictures and embarrassing school/childhood pictures. What else?

  • A really funny thread I read on one of the boards was Tell your crazy pregnancy dreams. I like the other ideas too!

  • @mrsmgsee I had a really strange dream last night lmao anyone watch chicago fire? I have a little crush on the character Christopher Herman. Had a steamy dream about him last night lol lol
  • @amandarene112 I like that idea! Weekends seem to be reeeally slow for us
  • I thought I might start a Weekend Roll Call next weekend. We used to do one on TTGP way back in the day. Just a general call out to whoever is hanging around and a few questions trying to get some weekend conversation rolling.
That's a good idea. I don't get on much during the weekend, but if I only had to click one thread instead of surfing through them all, I might get on a little more.

Maybe we could do threads for things people watch a lot, aka The Bachelor, Dancing with the Stars, The Voice, etc.

  • So it might be kinda lame but we could do a man crush Monday? We could share pictures of a celebrity crush or something? I could do that for many many mondays lol. Just an idea. I know I'm lame.
  • @SugarRush I do agree that we could be more free flowing, I feel like we've had a lot of organization and that's been good and all but we are so boring... more different posts would be fun. At this point I feel like it would be hard to "clog up the board" because it's soooooo slow lol
  • I do think our daily check ins are very "checkin, no convo". The PGAL thread is awesome and has ongoing conversation.

I love the idea of trying a monthly siggy challenge, Weekend Roll call, GTKY gardening and etc!

  • I've got to agree that the structure with so many check-ins makes things less exciting. I'm active in PGAL but I don't often participate in high risk or AMA. I just don't feel like I need to check in every week with those things. I'm a big fan of Gif parties. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge proponent of the search function. I don't like repetitive threads such as guess the sex and honestly, I wish I participated more here. But between DS and being a WAHM, it gets challenging.  So I definitely agree with the weekend rollcall. That would be easy to have one thread to check in on.  And random silly threads would be nice.

I agree. I feel like we just answer the questions in check ins and that's that. Especially the daily ticker changes. Maybe if we added something to each post about how even if it's not your day, feel free to participate in. I see @daniellelynette do this on a lot of daily tickers, but I've felt kind of awkward, like I didn't belong. So if some of us regulars start posting on tickers that you don't necessarily belong to, maybe it will become more natural to add conversations to those.
Ugh, that was really long and I feel like I didn't explain myself very well...

edit: And by posting, I don't mean answering the daily questions, but commenting on a symptom someone has or a GTKY that you have in common.

  • @mrsmgsee That sounds like an excellent idea. We should all be more proactive in each others journey to start conversation and get to know each other better!

  • I do comment on other days check in posts lol I'm just nosy  :D I like to read everyone's stuff and I feel like we miss a lot of the GTKY questions in the daily ticker change. Like I never would have known (minus the spreadsheet but who has really done through and read everyone's info?) that @HollyGolightly09 's real name isn't holly lmao if I hadn't been creepin in their thread! And I look at the PGAL and AMA threads too because I feel like I'm missing out

I agree that the check ins have gotten very "check in and go". Like others said, we are very chatty on the PGAL thread, but I don't see many others like that.

This isn't meant to re-hash/criticize from some past comments about this, but I personally feel there are too many 'daily check in's.'  It all feels so repetitive, and uninteresting.  I felt very connected to my past BMB group because the topics were so free-flowing and diverse.  Sometimes repetitive, yes, but it wasn't as bad as you'd imagine.  I would click on posts that I was like 'what the heck is this about?' and learned so much.  Here, it feels like everything pertaining to a certain group needs to be posted there/categorized and I miss a lot of things.  I dunno, just my .02.  I like the ideas mentioned above though, some of them sound like they could garner some good (and much needed) laughs
I completely agree! I would love to participate more but it's the same threads over and over. I was more active with my last bmb and was considered a regular. I have a strong bond with those ladies. I've even hung out with several of them in person. And I would love to have that here as well.
  • Agree that the check ins turn me off from the board. Honestly, I don't even click on those. I like the weekly randoms, Monday bitchfest, etc threads. The more get to know you ones.
And like someone mentioned above, I won't ever post pictures on a public forum.

  • Do we want to do a weekly checkin?? There seems to be so few of us now anyway!

We can post whenever we feel like. Monday when we are 13+5, or we can post on Wednesday when we are 14+0. Just so we all can feel a part.

I'd like to continue the High risk at least, because as we go through and get diagnosed with more high risk things, I'd like that to be the place to go if someone new has questions about a diagnosis.

Although PGAL seems to cover high risk, too :)

I'm totally guilty of posting and ghosting. I'm sorry guys! I will try to do better!

  • Ok what is a siggy challenge?!? I saw it on the August boards while lurking but felt too dumb to ask lol
  • @daniellelynette  I too take a peek on the PGAL thread because there is actual conversation going on!  I just never contribute there because I haven't experienced what they have.  I admire the support they all show each other and in a weird-not-trying-to-be-disrespectful-way, I am a little envious of their bond, if that makes sense.

@mcdoug211 A siggy challenge is where there's a topic. Say, for the month of March, Mardi Gras Parade Floats. And we all go find gifs or images of the BEST float we can find. It can be serious or an epic fail, or something phallic in nature. We put that in our signature (must be done on a computer through the profile setting ( and we laugh and then vote at the end of the month who had the best find. Most siggy challenges are Fails or Worst ____ or something funny, horrifyin, etc. To make us all laugh and smile.

Yes! I post sometimes for support just to let them know that I'm thinking about them. I 100%understand what you mean about the envious of their bond thing
  • Ooooo, a monthly siggy challenge could be fun! @mcdoug211 a siggy challenge is where the board agrees on a topic, something like Valentine's fails in February, or cutest baby animals, or worst maternity photos, or whatever, and then everyone posts a picture or gif that matches that theme in their siggy for the month. At the ed of the month, everyone votes on which picture or gif they think was the best. It's fun.

  • I don;t think taking away very specific check-ins like AMA, high-risk or PGAL is good, because those boards offer a very specific type of support (and not all high risk women are PGAL or vice versa), but I don't think one weekly ticker change is a ad idea. I post the weekend ticker change, and there is no interaction other than the basic posts.

  • Ooh ok thank you!
  • Maybe check-ins?
Work out, cleaning, milestones, savings goals... I don't know...

I feel like the current threads aren't super convo friendly. They either get soooo long its hard to keep up or they are quick GTKYs that don't leave much to ask or clarify with one another.

I don't know. I like some of the new format but it also makes me nervous to start threads because it feels so stiff and regulated. Maybe just a variety of threads popping up through-out the week that aren't just complaining about x,y, or z would encourage more participation.

I 100% agree. The regular check in threads are nice, but they do get rather boring. I understand how 10 individual threads with the same question can be annoying, but a few redundant threads or a new individual thread vs a post in stupid questions isn't so bad.

I love the idea of a siggy challenge. There were several other good ideas on here too. I cant think of anything different, but I agree. Lets spice this board up.

  • I'm new here (but I have been lurking for probably the past month or so!) so you can take or leave my comment BUT I agree that allllll the daily ticker change posts were fairly boring. I started out clicking on them to try and get to know people a little before commenting and get a feel for the board but there was just so little interaction that I just stopped reading them completely. I'm loving all the random little posts that have popped up today--I think it keeps things interesting to not have everything quite so organized and gives people fun stuff to read and multiple places to pop in and comment. Just my humble, newbie two cents.

I agree.  And those check ins seem to garnish a lot of responses, so that wouldn't make sense to have them fade out.

I think the weekly/daily/weekend ticker changes are the most obnoxious because there are sooo many.

  • I've been trying to think of a way to make the daily ticker changes more interactive. If we ended up having them all in one thread, then those that change on Monday could answer the bold questions on Monday, and so on. But then everyone could read everyone else's and maybe there would be more discussions? Or would that thread get to monstrous?
And maybe we could change the FTM check in to just a questions for STM thread? Because that's the only part of it that garners any attention. I honestly almost never posted in it because it seemed so similar to the daily ticker changes.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @thinkpositive2017 I know it's like just me and you on Tuesdays lol!!
  • I agree with it being one big week ticker change. I know there is like 4-5 people who participate in the Tuesday ticker change.
  • I don't mind the check in threads, but I definitely think the over organization is a board killer. Some of the random questions and updates keep things moving.
