I am so spoiled with DS. Like, seriously. He is the most easy-going kiddo in the world. He slept through the night as soon as we got his weight under control and didn't have to wake him for feedings anymore (at something like 10 weeks). He's so sweet and just wants to hang out with you 90% of the time (like, he will bring his toys and come sit in your lap and play completely independently but he just wants to be close to you). He's just...super chill...unless he's hungry, or sees you eating something that he wants, haha.
He's sick right now with a sinus infection and a double ear infection, which we only noticed because he had eye goop that the pediatrician figured was pink eye that has since cleared up. We seriously would never have known he was sick if it hadn't have gotten into his eyes because he's just as happy as can be. He takes his medicine like it's a treat. He's a little out of it, especially when he gets tired, but that's all. I just don't get it, haha.
This second kid is going to be an unholy terror. There's no way I'll get so spoiled twice!
@SnarkasaurusRex I once had a double ear, double eye, and sinus infection as an adult. I was absolutely miserable. Your LO sounds like a champ! I spent time with a friend yesterday whose 9mo hasn't slept more than three hours at a time in his entire little life so far and then she says "but I don't want to scare you! You might have a sleeper!" I wish there was some way to know in advance lol.
I'm really hoping Samuel is a sleeper because DS was not. He woke up just about every 3 hours. When he got a little older, it would stretch towards 4 or 5. But he didn't fully sleep through the night until around 14 months old. I'd really like more sleep this go around.
DH sleeps like the dead, so I know that's where DS gets it from (I am a stupidly light sleeper). My MIL keeps telling me that BOTH of her boys were like that (super chill, good sleepers), so I'm crossing my fingers that it's genetics and I will get to sleep sometime before she goes off to college.
My random is that I went to Dunkin Donuts and got a medium iced coffee and a Bavarian creme donut for only $3.50! I'm so over Starbucks....for now, lol
@shaunessa I wish I didn't hate their coffee because that is definitely a lot cheaper.
My random for the day... SIL just gave me a gift card to a super duper fancy pants resort and spa an hour and a half away. She had gotten the gift card when she was pregnant with my nephew 1.5 years ago. But, she never got a chance to use it. And now she wants me to use it while she watches DD for the day. It is a enough for a massage. I might go ahead and add something else to the day as well though. DH wanted to get me a massage back in October for our anniversary, but then we were poor and I knew it would not be a wise use of our money. But, now we do have a little money so I might see if he wants to get me something now, since I will be there anyway. I have not gotten a massage in a couple years and have only been to a spa a couple times and none this fancy. I feel like I am gonna walk in and everyone is gonna know I don't really belong there. haha! I am so excited!

@KirstinH88 if it makes you feel better my daughter didn't sleep at night until she was 3.5.. she was almost an only child.. I'm praying this one is easier!!
@HappyAnjel Oh I know I'm fairly lucky. I hear horror stories from some of my friends. But then I also hear stories about babies sleeping completely through the night at like 2 months. Not that I would particularly want that because I'd still have to wake up to pump then, but geez...
Ahhh. Just got word that DH has a job interview next Friday back in Iowa with his old company. We moved out of state two years ago and it has been a struggle to transition still. We are 5 and 8 hours away from our parents, haven't made any close friends, and struggle to visit family during the holidays. Moving back to our old town puts us 3 and 4 hours from our parents and 1.5 hours from my siblings and in the same town/within an hour of almost all of our close friends. The thought of traveling 5 hours in a car at 38 weeks is intimidating, as well as the thought of trying to possibly buy a home/sell ours but I think it would be in our best interest to get back closer to family and friends for support. Now we wait in limbo for the next couple of weeks.
@wagnerw Doesn't it seem like everything just seems to be the "perfect storm?" While the stress of moving/selling your home might be a little daunting, it may be better to be closer to family and friends, especially with baby coming/here.
@wagnerw I'm kind of jealous. I keep hoping DH will pursue a job back in our former city, near friends and family. I've still not warmed up to this one after four years. But you're right about bad timing! I just traveled three hours at 34 weeks and bloody hated it! Still, good luck to YH!
She actually did sleep fairly well the first few (maybe 5?) weeks.. woke to eat, be changed and go right back to bed... i hope I didn't scare anyone I don't think our situation was at all the norm.. we lived in a mother in law apartment at my parents and they would come running whenever they heard her cry. It was with good intentions but it really just distracted her and made things harder in that aspect.. now that we have our own house she has no issues sleeping at all.
Where I live there has been horrendous wind (gusts up to 60mph) the last 3-4 days and it has been causing some terrible fires about 30-40 miles south of me. The sky in my town has been orangish all day and gotten worse with the ash in the air tonight. My sister and her husband live in the town closest to where the fires are and got evacuated about a hour ago. So crazy and scary!
@KirstinH88 Yes, definitely a "perfect storm" of trying to get things finalized before baby and now possibly adding these new changes. It would be so nice to be closer to family to make trips easier for both us and them.
@HGRich We thought we would be fine going somewhere we knew no one, but it just hasn't worked out well. Still hopeful that we can adapt with a LO by finding some different groups and such, but so far we just haven't met people.
@mylittleirvz UGH! I have totally been there, getting evacuated and all. I hope you and your family stay safe!!
Also, if there is anything that I learned from being in two different fire storms and being evacuated, after everything dies down and it stops raining ash, be sure to get the air filter in your car changed.
So next week is apparently national sleep week and the HR lady got it approved to turn two classrooms on the third floor of the church into nap rooms with time slots to sign up for. Ummmmm yes please!!!! I have a feeling they will be dominated by the four pregos on staff. This is amazing.
@HGRich umm.. what?! Is there a limit to how many time slots you can sign up for? Man I would be all over that if my office participated but I'm not that lucky.
So.. I just started the date train - don't know if I can eat 6 dates a day for the rest of my pregnancy but I'm gonna try and see what happens.
@RachelGreeneI've heard that the 6 dates should equal 60-67 grams. If you are eating the bigger Medjool dates then this could be a lot less than 6. I weigh mine every morning and then snack on them throughout the day. I've also figured out that the seeds are about a gram a piece.
@RachelGreene I tried a smoothie but didn't like the consistency and couldn't get the dates to completely liquefy so there were little "chunks" (yum). These have been by far my favorite way to consume dates so far: https://www.dinner-mom.com/energy-balls-medjool-dates-recipe/ The combo of the dates and lightly salted peanut butter has been a winning one for me!
@RachelGreene I think you get one slot per day. But no limit as to how many days you use it. Which is fine with me--sometimes I think just one power nap is all I need to get through the day. Haha.
I'm late to this party but... DS slept through the night at around 2-3 months and overall is pretty much the easiest kid ever (potty trained in 2 days, eats whatever we eat, plays independently at home, loves his school). DH likes to say it's because we are amazing parents (ha!) but I'm legit terrified for this next kid. I've pretty much convinced myself she's going to be the complete opposite! I mean surely you can't get spoiled with 2 super easy, go with the flow kids right? Sigh... even if she's easy as a baby... there's always puberty... eek!
Also late to the party, but feel like I am in trouble with this one. DS slept through the night fairly consistently starting at 1 month. He was a crappy mapper but I will take that over a crappy night sleeper.
He was also potty trained for number two at a year and a half and fully potty trained (backwards I know) by 2 with pretty minimal effort on my part.
35+2 and got my first official "are you in labor yet" phone call.
Bwhahaha! I called my grandma's house phone about a month ago and my grandpa answered and asked if it was "time." Hahaha!!! I was only maybe 28 weeks...
@McFarKane if you eat 6 dates a day in your third trimester, it is said to help with making labor shorter. There are several studies on it as well as anecdotal evidence.
My boss tell me every morning "It's not happening today right? Right!" I'm getting real sick of it and I really hope when I do go into labor my water breaks right when he says it.
The first of my completion discount packages arrived this morning. Of course I bought like 8 items and everything ships separately... It's just diapers, but I'm excited!!
@KirstinH88 some of my stuff should be here today too! Mostly I ordered stuff for me post partum from our secret Target registry, but I'm still excited! 4 different packages...it's like Christmas!
