Re: Weekly Randoms: 2.26

  • LO has been yelling and screaming all day and it appears to be for nothing but gas. Good god.

  • I think babe has a cough. Anything I can do for it?
  • Loading the player...
  • I totally forgot to post this today. H and I spent the day cleaning up our basement and office while grandpa watched LO. It was much needed.

I had a similar day. He did burp extra but otherwise couldn't pinpoint a cause
  • I am taking B on his first plane trip tomorrow. I'm scared shitless. I have no idea how I'll even navigate all our stuff let alone how he might be on the flight
  • @kvruns Does your airline do curbside check-in? On the bright side, at least IND is usually not very busy.
Good luck, safe travels and enjoy the nice weather!
  • Anyone watching the Oscars? Have any favorite movies?
DH and I always have a ballot competition.

Watched La La Land yesterday - I like musicals but wasn't a big fan. Watched The White Helmets last night - omg, I bawled baddd. Tried to watch Lion today but couldn't get the subtitles to work. We watched Manchester by the Sea - pretty good, meh ending.
  • Not sure @hoosiermama I'm flying SW. Really it's just getting all the stuff from the car on the shuttle that worries me
  • Good luck @kvruns!

Watching The Oscars now @hoosiermama and it makes me forget I have kids for a hot minute! And how have you managed to watch all those films? I'm dying to watch a lot of them but need to wait until I can access them from home as DH stopped being interested in my movies preferences a few years ago, we now have two LOs, and my attention span is crap PP. I have seen Moonlight and the acting is AWESOME. Manchester by the Sea seems to sad for me. I can't wait to see La La La Land and Hidden Figures.

And Jimmy Kimmel is doing awesome.

  • We torrent all of them. :| DH hates going to the theater.
I've diligently timed when we watch them... it's gotta be around when she's gonna eat-sleep, or sleep-eat!

Our contest is down to the wire. I'm up on him by one pick with best actress and picture to go!
    SandNStarsNJ
  • Yeah I watched Walking Dead instead of The Oscars.

  • I hope your travels are going well, @kvruns! And if not, just remember you won't see any of those people from the shuttle/plane again.  :p

I'm jealous of anyone who can watch anything right now. I'm lucky if I can get through a 30-minute episode of Penn & Teller's Bullshit in the evening, there is no way I could fit in a movie with LO. I am really looking forward to seeing Hidden Figures. I also want to see La La Land as I love the actors and musicals, but haven't heard great things about it.
  • Yes, I love giggles! LO has been doing them for a couple weeks now, sometimes randomly, sometimes when we sing or dance or act silly. He's even giggled in sleep which is so cute and I like so much better than the sobbing (guessing he dreams?)

  • I live in FL so it's already summer weather. Does anyone know if neutrogena pure & free baby sunscreen is good?

  • I normally keep my house at 74 degrees but that seems to be too warm for LO and I think is causing her to wake from naps early. Any advice on how I can get her room cooler aside from buy a window AC unit?

Wow that is warm! Maybe put her down with less layers on. Or turn your house down a degree or two. Before LO our house was about 67/68 degrees and since her we put it at 70.

    ETA: @kvruns FTW! That's awesome.

I feel you girl! My pediatrician recommended California Baby.

I'm seconding California Baby. Our first is a June baby and we're beach people. California Baby kept her skin smooth and unburned all summer long. It's thick and it's not great on our hands (though I found a stick version on Amazon) but well worth it. It's also supposed to be much healthier for LO overall. Neutrogenia has pretty bad reviews as far as ingredients, but on the flip side a friend of mine works with a dermatologist who recommends it.

  • I thought you weren't supposed to do sunscreen for a year? Although what do you do then that sort of makes no sense

I avoided it for the first 6 months as recommended by our pedi and used SPF hats, sunbrellas, and wraps.

My pediatrician has no issues with sunscreen at this point (3 months) and would rather you use it than bring LO in because of a bad burn. She did encourage us to stay inside mid day, use hats and protective clothing, umbrellas, etc. When we were in for M's two month shots I told her we were headed to the Keys in April and she wished us a good time and recommended California Baby.
  • The keys @mrsmaryk2016!? I'm jealous. We always talk about going there but the drive to FL is long enough.  To tack on the drive to the keys wouldn't be possible with two LOs right now.

In other news, my 2.5 yo refuses to go to school today. It's the second day in a row and is really out of the ordinary. She typically asks to go - even on weekends. I don't mind her not going (as maternity leave has just a little more time) but I wonder what's causing the sudden refusal. We need her adjusted to the schedule when I go back to work.

  • @SandNStarsNJ We go every year with some friends and rent a big house on Marathon. I haven't decided if I'm driving or flying yet. Even where we are it's still a 6+ hour drive and since M hates the car I'm thinking flying into Key West might be better for everyone.

@Ladybug2821 maybe try closing vents in other parts of the house to increase the flow going into LO's room? We keep it pretty cool in our house but I'm in MN so we have heat on rather than air. We used to keep our house at 58-60, now with baby we keep it at a balmy 65.

  • @desoky01 Oh my!  That seems so cold. We basically had one week of winter here in FL this year and it's been 80s pretty much the rest of the time. I know lowering my thermo will increase the electric greatly so I will try closing the vents and see if that works. There is a fan in there and I turn that on. It feels good to me but I don't think it does the trick for S.
  • @mrsmaryk2016 Have you ever heard of/used Calms Forte? You can dissolve one tablet or even half of a tablet in BM and it relaxes LO (or anyone, really) without medicating them. We used it on a red eye flight with our first and a few select times over the past few years. I wouldn't use it for short term drives, but a long drive or flight would be perfect.

And wow @desoky01 I was worried that our LO room is reading at 69 degrees no mater what we do! It reassures me that we aren't too hot or too cold based on everyone's room temp readings.

  • My "room" for the week is a pop up bed in the living room. B is asleep in my parents room and I'll move him to a pack n play for the rest of the night. I'm exhausted and want to go to bed like an hour ago but my parents are watching the presidential address, then I'll have to move B and hope he stays asleep, then I have to pump bc there is no where for me to pump until they go to bed. It's going to be at least another hour. I'm sooooo tired
  • After seeing @desoky01's awesome stash I am feeling guilty and on the pump. Ugh. The plus side is that I am also on my computer for the first time in forever and my very sad typing skills are reminding me that I am in no way prepared to return to work.

I need to pull myself together!

Not at all! I've just been super lazy with pumping because this time I don't really mind NIP and DH seems less inclined to voluntarily feed LO. It also doesn't help that DS treats a bottle feed like water boarding. But the reality is that I go back to work this month and need to learn to at least tolerate pumping again and start a stash. Not to mention LO needs to get over his issues with bottles.

  • Speaking of hair loss, I'm losing tons but I'm also having a hard time keeping my hair knot free. I've tried to keep it in a braid or a bun but it still gets super tangled. I think a lot of the issue is me tossing and turning at night rubbing my hair on the pillow constantly. Anyone have a trick they know of?  It'll be better when I go back to work and do my hair in the morning as opposed to washing it at night. I'm just ripping so much more out brushing it and I'm already losing enough as it is.
  • If I try to do anything other than breastfeed today, LO flips the sh*t. Ugh.

  • B has screamed after every feeding today - like super duper screaming. Wtf. It's happened with bottle and nursing. Prior to today it had happened maybe 3 times total ever.

Gas? Teeth? Not his crib? These LOs have a mind if their own... hope it gets better soon.

  • He didn't scream after the last 2 feedings which is good. HE gave my amazing dad a run for his money while mom and I went to the pool BCBS he screamed after his bottle and after his nap which doesn't happen either. My dad is so awesome with him, especially on this trip, it makes my heart ache bc I wish I had a dad like that for B
