Assisted Hatching

What are your thoughts & are/have you done it?  My RE doesn't think it's necessary since I'm under 35 but I feel like it can only help & improve our chances...since we're paying out of pocket I want to give each round the best possible chance.

Re: Assisted Hatching

  • Had it done- under 35 and TW----- cp with 2 embryos. Nothing guarantees success.

  • We consented for assisted hatching. Our RE also didn't think we would need because of my age. But she also said that when the embryologist looks at the eggs, he/she may recommend it. It wasn't presented as something we could elect to have done.
  • Our RE doesn't require us to select it or not. It's part of the thaw based on how they look and the embryologist determination

We are getting AH since we have to do PGD testing. They have to break the membrane/shell to get the cells for the biopsy, anyway, so it's kind of automatically included.

eta: words are hardest on fridays...

  • Thanks! I've only done one IVF round but it was with fresh & our next round will hopefully be fresh since I didn't have enough to freeze last time. I'm thinking I may opt for it.

This was us. I was told I wouldn't need it but we consented if needed and we ended up needing it. We were only able to do a 3 day transfer though so I think my Re does them on all three days?
  • I had consented to it, "just in case" but wasn't really going to be needed...then because we ended up with a freeze all cycle, I was a little surprised to see a notch in the shell of the embryo we transferred (one the picture, before the procedure). When I asked about it, she said " we do assisted hatching on all frozen". That was news to me! Only thing I need to clarify is whether this contributed to my embryo splitting into two gestational sacs and causing a miscarriage due to no yolk sac development.
