Subchorionic hemorrhage

Hello everyone,
Does anyone have experience with a subchorionic hemorrhage?  I went in for a 7w1d scan today and the baby's heart is still beating strong (145 bpm) and its growing appropriately and measuring on target.  The nurse told me I had a "very small" subchorionic hemorrhage which is measuring at 18mmx4mmx5mm.  I have not had any spotting to date.  The nurse told me it's small and I don't need to worry, and I should just let them know if I have bleeding more than just spotting.  But of course I'm worrying and reading scary things on google.  Moms must have had so much less stress before the internet!  Is this something any of you have experienced before?  Is this a normal part of pregnancy?

Re: Subchorionic hemorrhage

  • Yes, I had this with my son, healthy 2 year old now :) I think they called it a subchorionic hematoma. Around 7 weeks I had bright red bleeding and went in for an early U/S. The doctor told me the same thing they told you :) SCH's can be serious but it sounds like yours is small enough to not cause any problems.

  • I had one with my 1st. Around 12 weeks I bled a lot of bright red blood and even passed a few clots. Went in for an ultrasound the next day and thankfully baby was 100% fine (3 y/o now). The bleeding didn't last long, but it was definitely scary. Although I think a lot of times SCHs just reabsorb (am I making that up?), so you may not have any problem.
  • I would trust what your health professionals are saying and STAY AWAY FROM GOOGLE!

  • Hello! Yes, I have one too and my perinatal doctor said they are VERY common in pregnancy and seemed so not concerned it put me at ease.  I asked him about all the Google stuff I read about pelvic rest etc he said no, just go about my normal routine mines very small like yours.  I had one tiny blood episode after urinating then that was it.

  • Also had one with prior pregnancy during 8th week.  Had a little bit of bleeding x1 and it actually didn't recur and resolved on its own.
