Panorama Testing

Has anyone under the age of 35 requested the Panorama testing from their doctor? I'd like to request it, mostly because my past miscarriages have made me much more anxious with this pregnancy, but I'm worried about getting denied because I'm only 29. Does anyone know how much it costs out of pocket?

Re: Panorama Testing

  • Is it the same as the harmony test? If so my doctor did it and I am 24 and she acted like everyone did it

I'm over 35 and the doctor put in the paperwork to insurance, the doctor did have me call Progenity directly to ask financial questions.  Progenity charges $226.  Perhaps Panorama has a patient phone line you could call to ask about costs and billing?
  • Now I don't think you have to be AMA for it to be done, my insurance covers it for a single gestation pregnancy, I am 27 and am having it done not the "panorama" per say I am having the verifi test done though, same test diff names. Definitely ask about it I'm sure they can make it happen
  • I think you can request any test you want, regardless of age. If your doctor doesn't think it's "medically necessary" and doesn't code it as such, then insurance probably won't cover it. I've heard the cost of these tests being anywhere from $250 to $3500. I would definitely confirm before going ahead, unless you don't mind the big bill.
  • I was just at my doctor on Thursday and Panorama would cost me $136.00 if insurance didn't cover it as long as I went to their local contracted lab.
  • My doctor offers this to all patients. Not sure as far as how much it costs as of yet. Ours is scheduled for 3/8. Due to our insurance OOP max, I'm really not concerned about the cost. We will hit the max regardless this year thanks to being pregnant.
  • I am under 35 and so because of that my insurance will not cover it. However, due to 5 prior m/c as well as a high ratio from my screen with my DS (who turned out healthy) I am moving forward with the cell free DNA. Talk to your doctor about what your best options are, my MFM told me they vary greatly in cost. For example she said MaterniT21 would be anywhere from $1000+ where as the test I am getting which she guarantees to be the same thing (although didn't specify the company beyond just calling its cell free DNA) has subsidies that will cover all but $150-$200 if your insurance does not cover it. That to me is well worth the piece of mind.

  • I am under 35 and my doctor suggested I do the test. Because of my prior losses he has my pregnancy labeled high risk and my insurance covered the cost. I should get my results back this week.

  • I'm doing the California prenatal screening. I've heard is a little less accurate than Panorama/MaterniT21/etc, but it's free under my insurance so I don't see a harm in it. Besides, we really want to do the nuchal ultrasound, and my doctor made it sound like it's a package deal

I requested the Panorama test for my last pregnancy. Since I wasn't eligible under insurance I paid for it out-of-pocket. It cost $800 Canadian (about $600 USD).
  • With my last pregnancy, about 3 1/2 years ago, I was not 35 and I got the panorama test.  My insurance didn't cover it and I received a bill for over $10,000.  I called the number on the bill for financial assistance and they just asked me what stated I lived in.  I told them Texas, and they said I would just owe $20.  So that's all I paid.  This pregnancy, I am 37 and I just had my panorama test sent off about a week and a half ago.  Natera called me last week to talk about my payment options.  They basically said I can pay around $1500 (to meet my insurance deductible) or I can pay cash around $450, but that amount won't go towards my deductible.  I guess things have changed in the last few years!  Has anyone else had a similar experience with the cost of their panorama recently??

Make sure your OB coded appropriately as to why you were getting the test. Insurance usually covers it with appropriate coding (AMA). Edited to add: I would call the OB office and ask if they had this problem in the past. There may be additional documentation that the lab company needs
  • I did it with my last pregnancy and they charged me insurance $10,871 and $4,750. I was shocked. But my OB office had a negotiated rate and so we only paid $150 OOP. Definitely talk to your OB before agreeing to it. I am under 35 and age wasn't a factor in getting the test. They had asked me if I wanted it.

  • I spoke with a natura/panorama rep and he said that you can apply for financial aid and it's based on the number of people in your household (including baby) and last year's gross income. He said that the paperwork is pretty easy and straightforward. Check with you OB!
