  • I've been getting regular headaches lately (I'm 12w4).  My friend gave me a "hot/cold therapy bag" and I was wondering if those of you who have experienced headaches would suggest I make it hot or cold before putting it to my forehead... I'm guessing cold but I dunno?  I'm taking Tylenol on occasion but I'm hoping this natural remedy will help, too.  Thanks!
  • @margareth cold always helps me! But it depends I guess, I'm not sure what to use. As DH says, it's worth a google!
  • thanks @daniellelynette.  I put ice cubes in it and it's helping.  However, I think I might have to take more Tylenol, too!
  • @margareth You definitely want to do cold. If the headache is caused by increased blood flow in your head (a lot of them are... your capillaries expand) the heat will make that worse.

  • @margareth A cup of coffee helps a lot with headaches, too.
  • @HollyGolightly09 Thank you!  I've gotten the occasional headache now and then, but it was never repeated or prolonged like this, so I guess I'm a headache "newbie" and should count my blessings for that.  Glad I went with cold... And it does provide *some* relief.

@Becky012016 I've heard that and I find that interesting.  I originally thought that coffee provided headache relief for people who are dependent on it (and thus get headaches if they don't get their required caffeine fix), but apparently it just helps in general?!  I'm learning things.  My stomach is feeling a bit delicate right now so I don't feel like coffee but thanks for the tip -- maybe the next time!
  • @margareth Caffine is a vasoconstrictor (makes blood vessels smaller) which is why it helps with headaches (typically the pain is from vasodilation- blood vessels getting larger). It's the same reason ice helps except caffine is system-wide and ice is localized.
  • @JNR6510 LOL! That's both disgusting and hilarious!

  • This week my tender boobs and daily heartburn have continued their merry assault on me, and as of Wednesday I've come down with a nasty cold, complete with sneezing fits, congestion, constant runny nose, sinus headache, swollen glands, and (low) fever. My immune system feels nonexistent. I'm trying out raw garlic as a remedy. We'll see how it goes.

This sounds like the flu  :o I hope you feel better soon! I'm seeing flu and strep throat left and right in my clinic.

@jessieR358 Thank you! I was worried about the same thing, but they did that flu test nasal swab nightmare thing on me and it came back negative.
  • All you tailbone pain sufferers out there. I just did a prenatal yoga video on the doyogawithme website called releasing the spine and it was magical. I have almost no pain right now. I will be doing this video daily.
    Totally googling that!

  • I'm getting headaches in a major way. Discomfort all over my head! Is anyone else getting them?
  • @margareth Yep! Several of us have mentioned having headaches. I turn to soda first, not the healthiest option, but usually a bit of caffeine helps me. Sometimes, I get relief by taking a nap. If absolutely needed, I'll take Tylenol, but I've tended to just ride them out.

  • @MrsVP614 thanks! Hoping they'll drop off in the second trimester. Must be hormones and increased blow flow -- so weird how it's affecting our heads like this!
  • Not sure that this really counts as a symptom, but I slept for almost 14 hours last night. I feel better than I have in days, lol.
I despise you a little right now. I think you're a week ahead of me, so maybe soon I will find sleep again.
  • @lahearn18  It's still hit or miss for me... but it is definitely getting better. Hopefully it will for you, too!

  • My allergies and congestion have now caused my ears to plug up...no popping. Whaaaaaah!!! The OTC Sudafed (phenylephrine) didn't do squat to decongest me. Calling an acupuncturist on Monday...worked during my last pregnancy! Dying over here...

Claritin is on my approved list but I don't see "D"...are there multiple types?

  • @texafornian The D is regular Claritin plus a decongestant. I'd ask your Dr if you can use the decongestant aspect of it or just stick with regular Claritin.
  • Does the idea of getting a shower physically exhaust anyone else? I'm just so tired all the time.
Do you mean taking a shower? Because the other day I totally sat down in the shower. We have these little places that I'm 99% sure are seats in our shower and I sat down for most of my shower. It was awesome.

Last night I got so mad at DH I would use the word "ragey" to describe how upset I was.... I've asked him so many times not to let our dog lay on my pillow and lick herself. She leaves a nasty disgusting spot of crotch drool and it is GROSS AS HELL. I came to bed last night and there in the center of my pillow was a big dog crotch drool spot. I wanted to smother him with the nasty pillow. I got irrationally mad, I was so mad it kept me up for at least an hour.
  • Does the idea of getting a shower physically exhaust anyone else? I'm just so tired all the time.
I wish DH was here and I would get him to answer this for me, lol. I dread taking a shower... I'll put it off, and whine about it. It's just so exhausting. And then I have to dry my hair...

  • @daniellelynette I told DH that a rage just builds up inside of me sometimes and it has to get out. He seemed a little concerned, lol....

I had major unexplained rage the weeks after my MMC with the hormone drop, but haven't experienced it yet while pregnant. I'm sure DH is hoping it stays that way.  o:)

I am 11 week and tomorrow and the past 7 weeks have been a nightmare filled with UTIs, yeast infections, acid reflux, exhaustion and borderline hypermesis. The only reason I think it's not actual hypermesis is bc I haven't lost any weight bc it's mostly heaving and bile but it's all. motherfudging. day. And as humiliating as it is to say this I am heaving so violently that more often then not I wind up peeing myself. My first full term pregnancy (9 years ago) was a breeze! But, I honestly don't even feel like a human being anymore. My doctor put me out of work for a few weeks and I was due to return this week but, am finding myself calling in because I cannot get it together. I do not have the luxury of not working and im sure the stress is probably amplifying everything too. Ok... that turned into a crazy rant and I didn't but even touch on my crazy ass moods but, who could maintain a normal mood with all this ish.

I am am praying so hard to every god and spirit and whatever else may be lurking out there that this all ends soon... because while I would love to be grateful for being pregnant esp after 5 previous m/c there are days where swan diving into a pool of rocks sound a more appealing then another moment of this hormone prison.

Ok I think I'm done now. (I'm taking a mental shot of something strong after that! Lol)

  • Does the idea of getting a shower physically exhaust anyone else? I'm just so tired all the time.
Yes. So much that I had a bath yesterday so I could just sit.
  • 10 weeks 1 day, I have 2 bad days and 1 good day and it continues, still nauseated and still throwing up bile and everything else once in a day! I feel weak, hopeless sometimes especially with an active 3 year old DS! I feel sorry for him, because I can't take him out or play with him, he either has to watch telly or play Ipad! I can't wait for second trimester, hoping to get my strength back then! Fingers crossed!
  • 10 weeks 6 days, I feel like my belly feels smaller last night and today, like it doesnt feel pregnant. It's freaking my PGAL brain out cause I started on an antibiotic yesterday. Anyone else's belly feel smaller at this point?
  • @OmSweetOm So sorry you're having such a rough first tri.  Hopefully the second tri will be full of positivity, energy, and mood enhancing (natural) hormones!

I wasn't aware of the supposed "wonders" of the second trimester (for some women) and just the other day my mom mentioned how amazing and "on top of the world" she felt in her second tri.  I'll be 13w tomorrow, so I'm crossing my fingers...
  • @heatherwilson321 It's just bloat going down!! Remember baby is like an inch and a half long behind your pubic bone.. so no baby bump. Only air!

Yes. And don't get me started on blowdrying my hair!!!

Also...I'm 10+6 as well and like you, bloat has gone down a bit and I *feel* less pregnant. I have a Doppler though and use it like a crazy person (second pregnancy though so I don't freak out when I can't find it after 20min...I just try later). I've been able to find the heartbeat 8x out of 10
after being really patient so it's made me feel better about the bloat subsiding. If you don't know how to use it it could cause you to freak more at this point though...I didn't use it til 12-13wk last time. Was able to find the beat at 10+2 this go around because I knew what to look for..

  • @Texafornian That's so exciting about the doppler! Unfortunately a doppler would be a waste of money for me. With my first son, at no point in the pregnancy was any doctor able to find him on a doppler, it was kind of nice though because everytime I went to the obgyn I got an ultrasound. With this pregnancy they've tried twice to find the baby just using the doppler and again no luck, I've had to get an ultrasound each time. They think my uterus is positioned weird maybe. I'm just going to end up giving all my money to the sneak peek ultrasound places, lol. They're only $40, and as bad as my anxiety is, my husband is like give for it, because he knows how anxious I will be if I don't do it.
