Infertility

Meds after transfer

Hi ladies. I just had my transfer yesterday. This was my first time Doing IVF. My dr has me starting the vaginal inserts today. I know some people get shots. I Started them this morning and had no issue but I noticed that some of it leaked out about 2 hours after I did the second one. I'm worried that it won't work as well since some of it leaked out. Does anyone have any experience with these? I'm wondering if I should ask to switch to the shots
TIA

Re: Meds after transfer

  • @Stuuuaaart I'm guessing your doing progesterone suppositories?  They leak, its OK, they still work.  I'd suggest stocking up on pantyliners! GL

  • @Stuuuaaart I'm on the same, at first a bunch leaked but now I've gotten the hang of it. My husband can't handle shots (understatement :)) so my RE assured me these work very well :)

  • I'm just worried that it's not as effective if it's leaking out.
  • My doctor told me that they get absorbed within 30 minutes, and they won't leak out before that time. The progesterone gets absorbed quickly and then the rest comes out.

  • Thank you!
  • Although- on suppositories my progesterone level was 21- on the shots it was 40. So for me- the shots were more effective. We did suppositories for IUI but PIO for the FETs.

  • The suppositories are a nasty business. My doctor explained to me that the shots are better because you do it 1x daily instead of doing vaginal suppositories 2x a day. You have to do it for at least 12 days and once you get a positive beta then continue until you're 12 weeks pregnant. So, you have to weigh the pros and cons.

  • My RE had me on Crinone suppositories and she said it was her preferred progesterone treatment for IVf/transfer. She liked it because it went "to the source" and took away potential user error with the shot. The downside was that it is not measurable in the blood stream so they can not test your progesterone blood levels accurately. I actually never had my progesterone checked after FET.

as far as leakage, it's gross. My nurse said not to worry about it and that it absorbed fairly quickly 20-30 minutes.
  • To me it's the worst part of all of this, minus the bloating! I cannot stand waking around in a pantyliner 24/7! It is gross, I just change my liner SEVERAL times a day! I do insert  3x day now but Dr said they can lessen that if things continue to go well! Glad to know its absorbed within 30 mins!
  • Is it only leaking? You shoul be worried if you have another side effects like a vominting, excessive tiredness, vaginal bleeding, worsening of depression, cerebrovascular changes or blood clots. In this case you'd better call your doctor in order to save your pregnancy.
I had bad side effects during my treatment. I tried not to avoid them, I was informed about harmful consequences after all.
