Ok, feel free to skip this thread if you're feeling queezy today....
This is my second pregnancy, and it's like night and day. 1st time around, no nausea, no morning sickness, no constipation, no major issues at all.... but this time.... yeesh. I'm dying here. I've had morning sickness every day since about 4.5 weeks. I've been constipated every week for the last month, and this week has been the worst. The pregnancy constipation is so bad, I am literally having to add fiber to almost every glass of water. It has now been 4 days since my last BM, and I am in agony. I don't have an appointment until next week on Tuesday, and I work full time. To make it worse, I'm home alone this week with my 3.5 year old, because DH is out of town for work training. I woke up at 3am this morning and could not go back to sleep because the pain is so bad. The worst part is, that I haven't been able to pass anything. Nothing at all. Straining has lead to
a hemorrhoid already. A frigging hemorrhoid!!! Anyone else having constipation this bad?? What are you taking to prevent it, and what are you taking to relieve it? Anyone know of something safe for pregnant women once you get to the point where you're impacted? Sorry for the TMI, but it's about to get real for all of us here, so I may as well be the first to make it awkward. Someone has to be the first.

-I take a daily magnesium supplement (also helps with headaches, which I personally am super prone to)
-eat mini wheats for breakfast
-I try to eat my fruit salad once a day (it's cool whip, strawberries, grapes and bananas, while bananas can be constipating, they give you the potassium you need to ward off leg cramps)
-take a prenatal probiotic
-avoid dairy, applesauce, toast, rice (the BRAT diet that they suggest for diarrhea)
-drink at least 64oz of water a day
-avoid caffeine since it's a diuretic and will suck water out of you, which your intestines and colon need to help move things along
-if you're taking a prenatal with iron, consider switching to one with plant-based iron, I use Rainbow Light, which you can get at Target
I know that's a lot, but it's been so many years of dealing with this for me, so I've learned a lot along the way lol
ETA: spelling is hard haha
I took prune juice yesterday and it didn't do anything for me at all. I finally went and bought a Fleet Enema, and Milk of Magnesia (recommended by doc). I took the MoM about 6 hours ago, and so far nothing. If I don't have a BM by the time I get home, I will attempt to do the enema. If that doesn't work, doc recommends taking Colace before bed, and says it should provide relief by morning. I hope this resolves today, because I didn't get much sleep last night from being in so much pain.

i war prunes and drink the juice. But nothing helps. I've never tried enema but I may have to resort to it. I'll talk to my doc about it first.

I think @emwj10187 is onto something though. I had some major relief after I made Spaghetti and Meatballs, last week, one night for dinner. I make the sauce from scratch, so there's roughly 3-4 cloves in there.
Since I was 8weeks pregnant I can't be put to sleep. I had regional anesthesia. The worst part is that I cant take any strong pain killers because of baby. It was so bad. I had to bear all the pain. I just got out of the hospital last wednesday. It still hurts down there but so far I'm getting better.
Sorry if TMI, I hope yours wont need surgery, I suggest you stop trying to strain and don't wait for your appointment, see if you can get a hold of your doc immediately to help you out. I hipe you won't end up like I did, because I wouldn't wish it happen even to my worst enemy. I'll be praying for you.
I can see this has beem posted even before I got my operation, why did I not see this before. Will be reading more threads in the future.
Also dealing with regular bouts of IBS (??) every morning. It gets really crampy and painful before I can do anything
I finally saw my doc on Tuesday, and discussed that I've had morning sickness round the clock. She thinks that because I'm sick, I'm getting dehydrated which is making the constipation worse. She had me up my fluid intake, start taking a magnesium supplement (called Calm), switch to a different prenatal which is a multiple per day instead of a 1 per day. I also got switched to one with folate instead of folic acid, and it also has a probiotic in it as well, which should help with the constipation. I hope the rest of you get relief, because this shit (pun intended) is starting to get old.
