Probiotics?

Is anyone currently taking any probiotics? (I know some midwives/doctors have different input on the use of probiotics in pregnancy.)

If you are currently using probiotics, what type do you usually go for?

Re: Probiotics?

  • My midwife has me on probiotics to help with constipation and help keep the ph in my vag balanced. I gag on any and all pills right now, so I'm taking gummy probiotics. They actually taste pretty good (better than my gummy prenatal, anyway), and they've helped a lot.

  • I've been taking probiotics regularly for years, including throughout my first pregnancy.

I take them for general health. Probiotics are important for so many reasons, and with our food supply in its current state, I foresee always taking them. My 4 year old takes them daily also.

  • I try to eat a serving of yogurt a day if not everyday.  Also, I try to include fermented foods as much as I can into my diet.  Things like sauerkraut and kimchi (sp?).  I use to drink a serving of Kombucha a day before getting pregnant.
  • Also, If you have a good healthy diet that includes tons of fresh fruits and veggies (as local and grown organically as possible) you should be good. That is why I can not wait for summertime and fresh veggies straight from the garden :) Also, if it is warm outside I try to walk around barefoot as much as I can outside in the mud, grass and dirt.  I also give my dog huge hugs and smells after she comes in from outside.  I know it sounds weird but our bodies get these good bacteria's in so many other ways than just food!  I suggest reading Eat Dirt.  He explains it all.
  • Awesome input!

I picked up some probiotics yesterday to help with my constipation and it has been working wonders.

  • What kind of probiotics did you get? Constipation is so bad this pregnancy. I have to do something.
  • @Jamiern01 I bought culturalle probiotics from target that have omega 3's in them. They seem to be working well so far!
  • I don't do well with stool softeners and what not. They cause unbearable cramps. These work so much better for me!
  • @Msashley2010 thanks so much I'm going to give them a try.
  • I like probiotics and use them myself-. I also gave them to my son when he was a newborn- they helped with his colic

  • @runbyfruiting I'm taking Digestive Advantage strawberry flavor probiotic gummies. I got them at Target. I don;t recommend smelling inside the bottle, but they taste like strawberry jello.

  • I have been taking probiotics for about a year. My son has a couple food allergies, which is unusual considering no one in our families have food allergies. His allergist suggested I take probiotics prior to and during my next pregnancy and it may help with allergies in the next child. Since we have no idea what caused it in my son, I'm doing everything I can to help this baby.

Culturelle is the most researched for food allergies so that is what I use.
