Nipple piercings while breastfeeding

I'm in my third trimester of my pregnancy. I haven't taken my nipple piercings out, and don't plan to let them grow in. I'll obviously take them out while breastfeeding. What are other mom's experiences with this? How long can I leave them out without them closing?
