Re: 3rd Trimester Check In: Feb. 13

  • Update: I turned in my dissertation today! Yay! Thanks for all the encouraging words. After my defense next month (if I pass, of course), I can really start focusing on nesting. :)

@Happydays13 It sounds like a great idea to have the extra help for the first month or two, but that's a big job getting everything ready at someone else's house! I hope they will help you get everything moved over there and set up.

@teriulbricht That is a tough call with your brother's girlfriend... It's understandable why she didn't end up getting vaccinated, but that doesn't mean it won't pose a risk to others. It might be a good idea to bring it up with your pediatrician to see what the risks are realistically. That way, when you talk to her you have a doctor's recommendation to back you up.

  • @teriulbricht - the move is temporary (at least for now...we will see how it goes!) but we are planning for 6-8 weeks at the moment, with a 'safety word' if one of us thinks we need to go home sooner, but I know we need the help.
@BlueEyedDreamer - everyone is pitching in, but I'm realizing how much I usually do things myself (and like it that way) and as of this week, it's just harder to lift/carry/move anything...so babies are teaching me how to ask for help.
Congrats on turning in the dissertatio! That has to be a relief!

  • Congrats @BlueEyedDreamer that's fantastic!! And with the brothers gf, I figure if they're just short visits and I limit the time she is actually holding the baby it should be ok. I know I've been around babies (including niece and nephew) early on when I haven't had a vaccination since I was younger. It really is a tough call, I have a lot of thinking to do. I don't want to offend anyone but at the same time I don't want my child getting sick.

@Happydays13 sounds like a great plan. I feel like I'll be asking mum around a lot in those first couple of months.

  • Wanted to ask you ladies: I thought the purpose of the Tdap vaccine at 28 weeks was to protect baby with antibodies through the placenta until he or she is big enough to get her own vaccine at 2 months. So shouldn't baby be protected thanks to us getting the vaccine during pregnancy, and hence it's not really relevant if caregivers are not vaccinated? I'm a bit confused also by what Dr Google says.

  • @PNW12RN - Welcome to 3rd Tri and congrats on your little girl! I added you above. I too have had multiple scans because I'm considered geriatric and we did IVF (see my signature). Also, maternal fetal doc was unable to see the heart because my placenta attached in front and I had to keep coming back for multiple scans. My last and final ultrasound is at 36 weeks to ensure the baby isn't too big (since I was put on Insulin recently). Looking forward to 2/28 to see my little guy for the last time before meeting him in person.

  • @flanners1 - I had my vaccination at 28 weeks for the protection of myself and the baby. But the doctors recommend that anyone in close contact with the baby also be vaccinated or have their booster for the tDap as a precautionary measure for the protection of the baby. The baby will not be completely vaccinated from the shot you receive but I do believe it helps them slightly.

  • @flanners1 all I know is that when my SIL had my nephew whooping cough was going around the county they live in (not the one we lived in) and we were not allowed to see him until we got the tdap, so we didn't get to see him for like 2 months (no health insurance at the time and it is expensive without it).

  • @pdbird  I'm excited about getting an extra scan, just mystified as to exactly why.  I passed my GCT with no issues, we saw everything we were looking for on the last AS, baby appeared to be measuring exactly as expected in everything they've done, my weight gain is right in the middle of average, etc.  I'm pretty happy to be getting more pictures (we even got a couple of 5 second videos last time!), but now I'm getting paranoid that there's something they aren't telling me!!  (not really...)

  • Hi all!  Wow this has been a busy board this week, I was trying to catch up, I always feel bad when I don't read everything and try to comment on most posts... too late hehe glad you all seem to be doing well, congrats to all the new ladies.
I can't believe I'm over 38 weeks! My weekly appointment was kind of meh, there's 2 Ob's in the practice I go to, and long story but I've had a bad experience with the woman every time. Well this appointment was with her and it started ok, she said baby was doing well but no progress on my side, no dilation and she said my cervix was very hard,  so I was like ok, I'll have to be patient. Then before she leaves she says that my belly was measuring "just a bit small" and to be safe she wants to do an ultrasound next time (in December she said It was a bit too big). They only do them on Wednesdays and Fridays and she said definitely Wednesday in case she had to deliver me ??? I didn't even want to ask what she meant because she has worried me the whole pregnancy for no reason. Thankfully next time I'll see the other Dr. I just really hope she doesn't end up being the one delivering me, she gives me anxiety!
Hope you all have a wonderful week!

  • Ladies! I feel off the face of the earth! Between getting ready to be out at work and then spending every waking second with my little sweetie, I couldn't even think about anything else. Delaney Marie was born on V-day after a surprisingly easy labor. Water broke 2/13 at 4pm and she was here on 2/14 at 5:03am after 22 minutes of pushing. No complications! She was 7pounds 15ounces and 21 3/8 inches long. These are two pics from the hospital and two pics from this week at 3.5 months. I hope everyone and their LO's are doing well!
