Re: Saturday Ticker Change 2/11

  • How far along are you? 21 weeks

    How big is baby? Endive

Appointment updates? OB appointment on Tuesday, 1st appointment with a different doctor in the practice since my doctor had her baby in January. Excited to hear his thoughts on the anatomy scan.

Any new symptoms or changes? Nothing new, feeling pretty good other than all the feels that come with a growing belly.

Rants/Raves/Questions? While I do think testing during pregnancy is important, the stress that comes with results and waiting in-between is stressful. I sometimes wonder if opting for some of the tests we did was the right decision. I'm just trying to just relax and enjoy being pregnant and all the happy that comes along with it and not focus on the waiting.

GTKY: What has been your biggest craving so far? Not sure I would call them cravings, but I am eating things I always loved that I never let myself have regularly... Oreos, Doritos...yum!

  • Sorry I'm in all bold and feel like I'm yelling
How far along are you? 22 weeks!!

How big is baby? A papaya

Appointment updates? Nothing till the 2nd. Will probably fit in a thyroid blood draw this week.

Any new symptoms or changes?  Just feeling baby dance around. Starting to really feel big. Noticing that caffeine makes him party, so that makes me feel bad.

Rants/Raves/Questions? DH and I kept going to dinner this week instead of tending to our to do list. So now we're more broke and are falling behind

GTKY: What has been your biggest craving so far? Chocolate. I've always been a chocolate craver but pregnancy takes it to a new place. I had illusions of becoming a health nut in pregnancy, but nope I'm eating chocolate cereal for dinner
  • How far along are you? 24 weeks! Apparently this means I've reached viability!

    How big is baby? Cantaloupe

Appointment updates? Have my next prenatal on Friday. Apparently the next appointment I'll have after that is the glucose tolerance test... hope it isn't as bad as I've been hearing.

Any new symptoms or changes? I'm definitely getting more uncomfortable. When I first sit down I feel pressure/pain at the top of my tummy. It's probably either trapped gas or just discomfort from all my organs being pushed around.

Rants/Raves/Questions? DH and I had our nursery furniture delivered today which meant we got to tackle putting a crib together for the first time in our lives. It was somewhat comical and we only used the F word about 3-4 times each. I think that means we're going to be wonderful parents, right? (pics in the nursery thread )

GTKY: What has been your biggest craving so far? SUGAR. I can't get enough of it. Give me all the cake and chocolate. Occasionally my sugar craving allows for some fresh fruit though.

I totally understand where you are coming from. We are low risk so we opted out of the optional tests. My husband's sister went through false positive results for down syndrome. It caused a lot of undue stress. I hope your appointment on Tuesday goes well.
  • @tmrussell Sorry about the fight with your family. This is something I have been thinking about too, my mom hasn't said anything about being in the room - and I am not sure I want her to be IN the room. I've been avoiding thinking about it.

Re testing, I am usually on the "i rather know" side of things, but thinking now maybe I am not. We look pictures and announced the sex on Facebook today which was fun  :)

  • @wifeinraleigh28 your furniture looks beautiful. I actually haven't been on the nursery thread much. The larger threads overwhelm me but I am glad I adventured over there. I saw a lot of neat ideas.
  • @graceriesz It's a tough decision. This is my second child. I am remarried, so my husbands first biological. With my first my mom was in the room and so many people were at the hospital waiting for him to be born. I was induced so I think that played a little into so many people being at the hospital. I felt rushed out of recovery because so many visitors were there wanting to see the baby and my mom nagging me to let them see him.

Breastfeeding was really difficult for me and I want to focus more on technique while at the hospital this time. It's a lot to think about. I love the support but honestly would rather have it once we come home.

My mother can be intrusive and not respectful which is exactly what happened. I think after a lot of disagreeing she has decided whatever we choose is best. Of course this is after threatening not to speak with me or see the baby if I didn't let her... Ugh. So yes good luck with this decision lol!! Hopefully your mother is more respectful of your personal decisions!
  • @tmrussell Thank you for the insight, I'm glad your mom decided whatever you choose is best.

  • @tmrussell I'm nervous about having a mess load of people at the hospital. I'm scared it will stress me out and affect my labor.
  • @Knottie42089123 I watched an episode of One Born Every Minute on TLC and the couple decided not to tell anyone they were in labor until aftwards and they were ready. Before I had my son I thought that was dumb and didn't understand why... Afterwards I totally understand. I feel like its our choice and if that is what you want express that to your family or not lol if they will not receive it well. I joked with DH and said I hope baby comes at night so it will be easy to be like "sorry we didn't calk it was late " I do not think it effected my labor so much as only so many people are allowed back at our hospital so our room wasn't crowded .. But after the baby was born it was Like family felt entitled to see the baby right away and that is just not the case. You need time to bond, recover and feed the baby. Good luck. Keep us updated on what you decide to do. DH and I are still undecided.
  • @tmrussell I'm sorry about the fight with your mom. Thank you for sharing your experience with having so many people at the hospital! My mom is flying out for the birth but we agreed since my labor can be long it would be best if she stayed home with the dogs (she loves dogs more than people lol) and then she'll come to the hospital once the baby is born. She was pretty agreeable to it which kind of surprised me. I haven't even spoken to my MIL yet though and I'm dreading it because she is very unreasonable and extremely sensitive. I have to be careful how I phrase things. I think making it seem like a privilege that she'll be invited just as soon as the baby arrives is key (rather than saying we aren't inviting anyone during labor lol). Ugh, not looking forward to these conversations!

@graceriesz I'm sorry about all the stress regarding the test results. Really hope all is just fine though and you can finally relax!

Thanks ladies for the compliments on the furniture! I'm in love. It's really nice stuff all paid for by my in laws and it's the nicest quality furniture in our entire house. The drawers are all soft closing, lol.
